Chikumaya, a new mentaiko shop that was born in the 19th year of Heisei. I wondered how they would compete in Fukuoka's crowded mentaiko industry. One day, I noticed that they were expanding their factory next to the main office building. Then, they purchased the empty land next to it and expanded the warehouse. And one day, they were building something suspicious-looking... It was a ship-like structure with cute portholes and an anchor, but it also had three cannons and smoke billowing from the chimney, like it was ready to set sail into battle! Chikumaya must be making a lot of money! We usually buy their "mild" mentaiko as a small gift for elderly people, and even the mild version retains the delicious spiciness of mentaiko, making it a refined and enjoyable taste that goes well with rice.

Fukuoka's new spicy cod roe shop, located next to the headquarters, has a retail section. In December 2010, I revisited the shop. We always have cod roe in our refrigerator now. This time, I bought 4 pieces of Kiriko cod roe and 2 pieces of cod roe with shiokara. The cod roe with shiokara has generous amounts of shiokara sprinkled on top, making it a good deal. The Kiriko cod roe is also a good size for personal consumption. The catchphrase is "Delicious casually, delicious everyday, delicious for you." They have a Hawks collaboration cod roe for 2,100 yen, which contains about 5 pieces. Surprisingly, they also have Kiriko cod roe 200g for 500 yen, which is quite cheap. The taste of the cod roe is very traditional. If you love cod roe, you might get addicted to it. The shop is located along the old Route 3. In August 2010, I bought 4 more boxes of Kiriko cod roe as my stock was running out. I've accumulated enough points for a 500 yen discount next time.
