This is not just any dagashi, but a gold leaf sugar that should be enjoyed one by one. With each bite, a refined aroma spreads throughout the mouth, allowing you to appreciate the preciousness of each piece. Although it is a bit pricey, I resist my usual habit of gobbling them up. Each flavor - strawberry, soda, lemon, and rich milk - is distinct and delightful. This would make a great gift in the future. It's stylish.

In Osaka city... After taking a break at "The Lobby" on the 2nd floor of Hankyu Men's Building, I decided to head back to Hankyu Department Store basement for a visit. Prior to my trip to Osaka, I did some research and found out about the only specialized store for "Kanpeito" (Japanese sugar candy). When I was a child, Kanpeito was a common snack, but nowadays there are hardly any places making it. So, if there is a store in Hankyu, I couldn't miss it!! I visited the store on a weekend afternoon around 3:50 PM. The store is located in the middle of the Hankyu Department Store basement 1st floor Japanese sweets section. Luckily, there was no line at the store. I consulted with the staff and purchased a set of 3 types of Kanpeito for 2,004 yen. I wanted a larger set, but I thought it might be inconvenient for the upcoming concert, so I gave up on that idea. After paying, I moved on to my next destination. When I got home, I took photos and tried the Kanpeito. The set of 3 types includes "Strawberry," "Lemon," and "Cider." Looking at the ingredients, the main ingredients are granulated sugar, starch, and rice flour. It takes about 2 weeks to make the Kanpeito with sharp edges. First, I placed them on a plate, and they looked good! When I tasted them, they had a crispy texture. Those with dental issues may find it hard to chew. As expected, they were sweet since they are made of hardened granulated sugar. Perfect for those who love sweet treats and great for sparking conversations! Being the only specialized store in Japan, it's worth buying them now before they become unavailable. Thank you for the meal. March 2023. Foodlog rating: 3.13 points.

I received a gift of "Kanpeito" from the only Kanpeito specialty store in Japan, "Ryokujuan Shimizu," in September 2022. Established in Kyoto in 1847, the "Ryokujuan Shimizu Main Store" continues to inherit the traditional techniques of Kanpeito. I visited the store 8 years ago and bought "Tomato Kanpeito," which featured artistic Kanpeito showcasing the natural colors and flavors of fruits, unlike regular sugar-flavored Kanpeito. This time, I received a pack of two small bags of Kanpeito assortments: Kyoho grape Kanpeito and apple Kanpeito. Kanpeito was introduced to Japan as a Nanban confection during the Warring States period, presented to Oda Nobunaga, and became very popular for its beauty. The recipe was not passed down, so it was only during the Edo period that it began to be made domestically through trial and error. Kanpeito, crystallized beautifully over about two weeks, can be stored at room temperature without melting even in summer, but I heard that it is also recommended to eat it frozen. I will try some at room temperature first and freeze the rest a bit. The "Kyoho grape Kanpeito" retains the color of the skin, and it is said to be colored with Kyoho grape skin and contains the flesh. The "apple Kanpeito" is finished in a whitish color to prevent browning from grated apples, with a refreshing apple flavor that tastes delicious! Both have a beautiful color and shine, a sweet and pleasant aroma. Initially, they are chewy like candy, but as they soften, biting into them gives a crispy texture, enhancing the sweetness and the natural flavor of the fruit. The frozen Kanpeito was intriguing with its initial coolness, and the sweetness was slightly subdued. Delicious!

I purchased at Hankyu Department Store, but the male staff was on a long phone call and did not attend to me promptly, nor did he call for another staff member. I felt very uncomfortable. I hope they will assign staff who are more quick-witted.

I use gold leaf-shaped sugar candies as a small gift, or to have my friends who come to visit from afar take back home. Although not strictly from Kyoto, it represents the Kansai region broadly. It is easy to carry around, exudes a traditional Kyoto charm while also having a modern touch. The variety of flavors is rich, from classic to unique ones, making it fun to choose. The packaging is cute and eye-catching, making it a perfect casual gift. This summer, I purchased two seasonal flavors: "Cool Breeze" with a refreshing cider taste, and "Watermelon" with a unique twist of cultivating high-sugar content watermelons hanging in the air. I also bought a peach-flavored one for myself, but mistakenly got a ginger flavor instead. Despite the shock, it had a subtle and elegant taste. Overall, these candies are great for gifting, and I believe they would be appreciated by anyone who receives them.

I was planning to go to a shop in Kyoto to buy some Konpeito from Midori Shouan Shimizu, but the highest temperature in Osaka was 39.8 degrees!! It was hotter than Kyoto, so I was surprised. Since Kyoto is known for heavy traffic, I decided to give up on going there this time. Therefore, it's not a good idea to visit Kansai in the summer. However, I found out that I can buy it in Osaka, so I easily got it! The watermelon-flavored Konpeito with cider flavor tastes like watermelon and cider. I put about 5 pieces in my mouth and enjoyed the crunchy texture.

■Update History■■2013.05.17 Celebratory gift! Kinpaito from Ryokusuan Shimizu!■■2013.05.17■■Introduction■We used this as a gift for our company's completion ceremony. Handmade Kinpaito from Kyoto, the only one in Kyoto.■Today's Order■Kinpaito ☞ I don't remember eating Kinpaito much before. I can't compare it, but it's sweet! Probably, that's obvious! (laughs) The shop in Kyoto seems to be quite popular. It seems delicious. They seem to add various flavors. The handmade packaging gives a luxurious feel and somehow makes it taste delicious. I gave it a good rating for now, but it may not be very helpful, just a personal opinion.

Recently, I tried the Kinpaku (gold leaf-covered) sugar candies that were newly introduced at Hankyu department store. I remember having them when I was little, but I haven't had them in a while. These Kinpaku candies are really delicious and seem to be quite popular, as they are not easy to find even in Kyoto. While wandering around the basement of Hankyu, I came across some cute cow-shaped candies. They were a bit unusual for Kinpaku candies, but the price was reasonable. They are made with Jersey cow's milk, which sounded interesting. The packaging was cute, so I decided to buy some. When I took a bite and chewed it, a fluffy milk fragrance spread in my mouth. It was delicious! You might not fully appreciate the flavor if you just lick it, so it's better to chew it. Oh, I also ordered some peach-flavored Kinpaku candies, but they were missing from my purchase. I need to ask the staff about it.

Kinpira-dango \(^o^)/ I had these Kinpira-dango for the first time in a while. They come in various flavors like strawberry, melon, banana, apple, peach, and orange, I think? You can enjoy different tastes. The package is made of high-quality Japanese paper, giving it a luxurious feel. Despite its gentle sweetness, you can clearly smell the fruit and taste the flavor of each fruit as well. Amazing! It's been so many years since I last had them. But the taste is consistently delicious. It's truly a masterpiece of craftsmanship. I feel so happy (*´∀`*)
