I think the last time I went here was before the pandemic. It's been a long time. This place doesn't offer courses, just a la carte ordering. First, we had sashimi, and the bonito was really delicious. We also ordered a few side dishes. The sea urchin tasted good, but it was a bit dry. When I asked the chef about the origin, he gave a vague answer like, "Isn't it from Hokkaido?" The eel sushi wasn't that great, but the prawn was huge and incredibly delicious. The fatty tuna at the end was also very tasty.

Starting with delicacies such as sashimi, simmered octopus, and sazae, the sushi omakase included dishes like shirako, kawahagi, tachiuo, torikai, shellfish, kurumaebi, maguro, dodoguro, fresh anago, uni, and finally, a choice of green onions to finish with around 10 pieces in total. Each one was incredibly delicious. The atmosphere had a hidden gem vibe, and I believe that places with full names as their restaurant names are always a safe bet. I have also started a YouTube channel! I will be sharing even more delicious gourmet information through videos. "Sushi Kimura Kensuke" is a popular sushi restaurant in the Minami area near Namba Station and Shinsaibashi Station. Located in the competitive gourmet district between Shinsaibashi and Nagahoribashi, this restaurant stands out for its delicious red vinegar-based sushi rice and fresh ingredients, particularly the hand-picked sea urchin. The cost performance is excellent, and the friendly demeanor of the owner creates a comfortable dining atmosphere."

Since the spread of the coronavirus, I have almost no opportunity to go to Higashi-Shinsaibashi, or you could say I have avoided it. Even so, let's say hello to Kensuke. Apparently, the number of customers has dropped significantly due to the coronavirus, and there were days when they had to close even outside of the state of emergency. On this day, it was just the two of us all day. The harsh reality is becoming apparent. Kensuke's sushi restaurant is one that I admired in the past, with only high-quality ingredients without a price tag. I was too scared to see how much it would cost. In sushi restaurants without set courses, including Higuchi-san, it is top-notch. In the past, I could eat there with good value, but it seems like the prices have gone up a bit. Maybe I should adjust the amount of sake and food a little. Thank you for the meal!

I visited this sushi restaurant after a long time. Each piece of sushi was carefully crafted and you could feel the dedication put into them. There were flavors and textures that I had never experienced before, and I was able to truly appreciate the culinary artistry. This restaurant is usually very busy, so I recommend making a reservation in advance. I enjoyed delicious sushi here.

I casually dropped by this place and their specialty seems to be dashimaki tamago (rolled omelette). Right after it was cooked, a staff member invited me to try it and placed it on my plate. The dashimaki tamago looked like a piece of art, even though it was just placed there. The dashi (broth) seeping out enhanced the flavor. As for the sushi, the rice seemed a bit lacking, leaving something to be desired for big eaters. Be cautious if you have a big appetite.

I found this restaurant while looking for sea urchin. I don't remember the exact date, but I was satisfied with the service and the food. It would have been nice if they had a system where dishes come out in a course without having to order. However, it seems like this is not that type of restaurant, but more of a place to use before or after drinking. The price is a bit high.

Visited for the first time in 11 months and after a light meal at the first place, I left the selection to the chef at the second place. We had a variety of dishes including a sashimi platter (medium fatty tuna, yellowtail, saury, squid, scallop, whelk, halibut, sea bream), grilled nodoguro with salt, and nigiri sushi with toppings such as thread-sail filefish liver, sweet shrimp, baby red snapper, swordfish, shrimp, pufferfish milt, mackerel, medium fatty tuna, and shrimp head. The grilled nodoguro with salt was especially delicious!

I was finally able to go for the second time since my last visit, which was a long time ago. This time, we went to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We started with a toast with beer. The course was supposed to be sashimi, grilled dishes, and sushi, but this time we decided to have the grilled dishes before the sushi. We had two types of grilled dishes: grilled kinki fish and grilled shirako (milt). The kinki fish was incredibly fatty and delicious, while the shirako had its usual great taste. The grilled dishes were accompanied by sansho pepper, which complemented the flavors perfectly. For sushi, we had a 5-piece chef's selection, including seared sea bream. The sea bream was surprisingly fatty for a white fish. We also had yellowtail, which was in season and delightful, layered squid, layered flounder, seasonal swordfish that was served hot and had to be eaten carefully, among other dishes. We also ordered additional items like kohada, sayori, anago chirashi, marinated tuna, and long-legged shrimp. Overall, the experience was fantastic, and I highly recommend trying the sea urchin, which was a personal favorite from my previous visit.

During the self-restraint period, I refrained from visiting, but this was my third visit to Kenjiro Kimura this year. I stopped by for a quick sushi bite at the second location. I visited around 8:30 pm on a Saturday and the counter was full, so I was seated at a table. My first visit after the self-restraint period ended resulted in a high bill due to indulging in expensive sake, costing me 19,000 yen alone, but the second visit was more affordable. The atmosphere of the restaurant and the clientele make it a quiet place to enjoy a drink, which is why I choose the second location. The first round is usually full even on weekdays, and the only downside is that there are only empty seats late at night. Thank you for the meal!

I visited the restaurant on a regular night. I ordered the chef's choice as well as some items of my preference. The menu included a variety of sushi such as katsugodai, hirame, nodoguro, akami-zuke, kohada, chutoro, simmered clams, tekka maki, kawahagi, and anago. For drinks, I had a glass of Toyo Bijin sake and a glass of Tsuchigumo sake. The sushi rice was seasoned with red vinegar, giving it a light and fluffy texture. The overall cost for two people was 23,000 yen, which I believe is a great value for the quality of sushi. In a city like Osaka (Kansai) where expensive sushi restaurants with flashy atmospheres are common, this place stands out as a rare and excellent Edo-style sushi restaurant. I highly recommend it.

Today's meal was delicious. We visited to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. My wife had been wanting to come here since our last visit, so it was a special occasion for us. We ordered some adult beverages and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. I forgot to take many photos, but it was a satisfying experience. Thank you for the great meal!

I was taken to this beautiful and cozy restaurant on a Saturday night. I had a lot of sushi pieces chosen by the chef. The red vinegar rice was soft and fluffy, and it melted in my mouth. Even when picked up with chopsticks, the rice held together well and had a soft texture that surprised me. Every piece of sushi was truly delicious, with the matsutake mushrooms having a wonderful aroma and the hand-pressed sea urchin being sweet and melting in my mouth. The sizes were just right, and the sushi showcased both the quality of the ingredients and the chef's skills. The personality of the chef shone through in the restaurant and in the sushi, creating a cozy atmosphere where I could enjoy exceptional sushi. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

The sushi itself (both the topping and the rice) is much tastier than your average sushi restaurant, whether in the north or the south. However, the service is incredibly slow. Even with just two sashimi dishes, one grilled dish, and 11 pieces of sushi, it took 2 and a half hours. The head chef doesn't engage in conversation much (or maybe can't), so it's unclear whether they offer omakase or if there's a menu. It's really disappointing... they should show more motivation! 😆

Osaka Namba Kimura Kensuke-san is a sushi researcher. They have a rating of 3.36 on Tabelog and are located in Suenomoncho. You can order your favorite items instead of leaving it up to the chef. The rice is slightly vinegared, slightly firm, and at the right temperature. Let's get started!
- Iso tsubukai
- Sashimi: Akami, Katsuo, Kisu, Kensake, Akaoutai
- Squid: It disappeared as soon as it was cut
- Fresh conger eel, my first time trying it
- Skin is well-prepared
- Horse mackerel
- Lean tuna marinated in mustard
- Grilled shiitake mushrooms: Juicy and piping hot
- Sea urchin: Rich and creamy
I enjoyed my meal slowly, savoring it with Japanese sake. Thank you for the feast! Thank you very much!

Of course, I will continue to visit Kensuke even after entering the Reiwa era. The atmosphere of the restaurant is quiet, with no loud customers, so you can enjoy your meal in peace. I have never encountered any customers who disrupt the ambiance. I have a couple of acquaintances who find Kensuke very convenient as a sushi restaurant where even picky eaters can enjoy. They feel uncomfortable at high-end restaurants where most dishes are course meals and it's common to refuse certain fish that are served. But at Kensuke, they can simply order their favorite types of sushi without any hesitation. Another advantage is that if you don't want a course meal, you can still enjoy delicious sushi as long as there are available seats, even on the same day or as a second stop. I might bring one of those friends with me next time. Thank you for the meal!

I had always wanted to visit this restaurant. I happened to call three days before and was able to make a reservation, so I visited this time. This place does not offer courses, but instead you order a la carte. I ordered four appetizers and sashimi to start. The appetizers were all quite lightly seasoned, but they brought out the flavors of the ingredients and were delicious. The grilled fugu shirako with sesame was a bit light in flavor, but still satisfying. The sushi and rice were just the way I like it, firm and all very tasty.

On the last day of Heisei era, the Mikutama family decided to end their day with sushi. Luckily, they were able to get a table at the restaurant where they had been well taken care of by Mr. Kimura, who they had relied on the most during the Heisei era. They started with sashimi as usual, followed by various dishes and sake. Unfortunately, the grilled blackthroat sea perch they wanted was sold out. But Mr. Kimura was kind enough to make sushi based on their preferences. They couldn't find a photo of the mushroom sushi they had, but it was delicious. Ending the meal with mushroom sushi was the best choice. They had a great time at the restaurant where they had been well taken care of during the Heisei era. Looking forward to continuing their patronage in the Reiwa era. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

After half a year, I visited a sushi restaurant and had a delicious grilled salted blackthroat seaperch nigiri. The menu included kasugodai, yellowtail, kisu, saury, sweet shrimp, squid, shirako, marinated tuna, sea bream, glass shrimp, conger eel, horse mackerel, sea urchin, flounder, thread-sail filefish, shrimp head, medium fatty tuna, cutlassfish, Japanese flying squid, salmon roe, conger eel, and fatty tuna with seared skin. The cold sake from Shinmine, Nara and Senshin, Niigata was also very satisfying.

Visited at 7:00 PM on a regular meeting day. We had sashimi, grilled beltfish, grilled shirako, and 8 pieces of tamago sushi. Drinks included draft beer, bottled beer, and sake. The total bill was exactly 16,000 yen per person. I was surprised by the pricing of the sake (7,000 yen per glass...), but everything was delicious!
