The Apple Pie karinto tastes just like apple pie. While karinto is a traditional Japanese snack, the flavor is more Western, so it might be appealing even to those who don't typically like karinto. There's a hint of cinnamon, and a slight bitterness in the aftertaste. It's not just sweet, but also has a satisfying finish that makes you want more. I'm curious to try the other flavors. The texture is very crunchy and hard! This is my preference.

Shopping at the Seibu Ikebukuro basement floor. I looked around at Akeya Koreya Sweets and decided to purchase Azabu Karinto. There were various types of Karinto lined up. After some hesitation, I decided to purchase four types of Karinto on this day. I planned to enjoy one type each day for four days, but ended up finishing them in just two days (laughs). The ones I had this time were: 1) Yuzu Karinto for 381 yen. This Karinto is thicker compared to others. When I put the first one in my mouth, I could definitely taste the yuzu flavor, and I thought it was delicious. I finished it in about 5 minutes. I quite liked it. 2) Kinpira Gobo Karinto for 305 yen. This Karinto is thinner. The slightly spicy taste was as expected. It reminded me of the Gobo Karinto I had bought at MUJI before. This one is apparently the second most popular. 3) Vegetable Mix Karinto for 343 yen. This one is also thin. It contains sweet potato, pumpkin, carrot, onion, and spinach. And then I decided on "karinto"! But when I got to the store, I was once again overwhelmed by the variety of choices. There were a total of 50 different types of "karinto." I just couldn't make up my mind. So, I ended up choosing either the "karinto manju" or occasionally they have a "broken karinto assortment" (I forgot the official name). Each "karinto manju" is individually wrapped in a pillow-like packaging. When you open the packaging, you are greeted by a fragrant burnt black syrup with a mix of bitterness and sweetness. When you bite into it, the texture is soft and moist like a steamed bun, but the taste is definitely "karinto." The sweet bean paste inside is just like what you would expect in a bun. Since it's "karinto," it's fried in oil, but you don't feel the greasiness, it's light and refreshing. However, the sweetness of the bean paste is rich.
