I have no appetite... To be precise, my stomach is empty but I don't feel like eating. However, my energy levels are low, so I can't skip meals. What should I do... Maybe some delicious soba noodles would be good? But if I don't feel satisfied after paying a decent amount of money, I'll be quite disappointed. After some thought with my brain almost at a standstill, I decided to go to the nearby "Nama Soba Azuma" restaurant. They offer up to 3 servings (actually 2 servings worth) for free, so I should be able to fill my stomach. My wife and I arrived just before noon, and as expected, there was a wait. It's hot and cheap, so it's to be expected. Still, they have a good turnover, so we were seated in about 10 minutes. I looked at the menu and noticed that there were more options than before. It's been about 2 years since I last came, so I feel a bit like Rip Van Winkle. I ordered the Beef Tsuke (3 servings) for 1078 yen, and my wife ordered the Spicy Negi Koshitsu Tsuke (2 servings) for 880 yen. Maybe I should have started with 2 servings and added more later... Well, it's soba, so it should be fine. The restaurant was crowded, so it took some time to get our food. As I looked at the menu, I noticed that the "Azuma Mori" set, which had the restaurant's name, was missing from the group photo. Is that not a signature dish? When the food arrived, I quickly took a picture and started eating. But how do you eat this correctly? It's a dipping style, so do you dip it in? The warm egg is almost solid, so it doesn't mix well with the noodles. I took a bite, and the dipping sauce is really sour. Is this some kind of trend? The meat is slightly sweet, but everything becomes sour when dipped in the sauce... And the soba itself has no flavor. Is this how it's supposed to be? What am I eating right now? Soba? Thin noodles? Why did I order 3 servings... I should have started with 2 servings and seen how it goes. How do I finish this? I asked the staff for a lot of wasabi, dissolved it in the dipping sauce, and poured it over everything. It reduced the sourness a bit. But overall, the soba has no taste or aroma... I struggled with the large amount of noodles... The egg falls apart, making it hard to eat with chopsticks. If this is the soba they serve, not many people would order the "Azuma Mori" set. My wife also said, "The spicy negi dipping sauce is rich and delicious, but the soba has no flavor or aroma." I'm not the only one who thinks that. I remember the soba having a bit more flavor before, but it seems to have changed a lot. With rising ingredient costs, it might be better to maintain some flavor rather than forcing the 3 servings free offer. But if customers keep coming like this, maybe it's not necessary? Well, if I can't even tell what I'm eating, I definitely won't come back. The noodles are falling apart and hard. I have no idea what's going on anymore...
