I felt like eating some traditional Japanese sweets like manju, so I decided to stop by this shop near Tokyo Station at just the right time. The shop is located on the first floor of Daimaru Tokyo, directly connected to Tokyo Station. It has the atmosphere of a department store's Japanese sweets shop. I bought the Shihose manju and had it the next day after returning home. I had been to the main store before and tried their sweets, and this time, the Shihose manju had the same elegant and refined taste, which was delicious. It's a great choice for a Tokyo souvenir, where you can taste the traditional flavors of a long-established shop dating back to the Muromachi period.

After binge-watching the anime "Deaimon" on Amazon Prime, I suddenly felt like eating nerikiri sweets. I'm easily influenced by what I watch. I heard that the Shiose main store offers 5 different types of nerikiri sweets that change monthly. In February, they had red plum, hanakurenai, otome camellia, uguisu, and neji plum. I bought all of them at 432 yen each (excluding tax). They have a cute shape that makes you feel the season, and they are not too sweet, packed with deliciousness. I found them more satisfying than they look. I'm starting to appreciate the goodness of nerikiri sweets at this age. I would like to try them again in other seasons. Thank you for the delicious meal.

*Purchased as a souvenir* (dish) Shihose Manju (9 pieces) @ 1,296 yen! Made with Yamato potatoes, the firm skin and smooth filling go perfectly together! The small size is just right for a quick bite. (Overall) As one of Japan's three major steamed buns with a history of over 660 years, it's important to appreciate the weight of its history. It has preserved tradition and brought joy to those who have eaten it over the years, which is quite moving. On the other hand, it's also evolving by collaborating with characters like Hello Kitty.

I used this shop located in Daimaru at Tokyo Station. Although I have used multiple shops before, this shop is new to me. It is located quite deep inside Daimaru and the shop itself is not very big, so it could be easily overlooked. This time, I bought daifuku and sakuramochi. The daifuku is a specialty of this shop, and the sakuramochi is a seasonal item. Both have a very chewy texture. The daifuku is especially chewy with a strong aroma of mochi, perfect for those who love rice cakes. The sakuramochi has a very moist outer layer, showing the unique characteristics of this shop. The sweet bean paste is well-filtered, with minimal impurities and a strong sweetness that is not overwhelming. The combination of the outer layer and the sweet bean paste gives an elegant taste, making it stand out as a simple and refined Japanese confectionery.

It's the season of the Hina Matsuri in March 2021, so I wanted to try some sakuramochi. I found these sakuramochi and daifuku at Daimaru, a well-established traditional Japanese sweets shop. I brought them home and enjoyed them as a sweet treat after dinner. The sakuramochi had a lovely sakura color and the saltiness of the sakura leaf enhanced the sweetness of the red bean paste. It was delicious with a smooth and pleasant texture. The daifuku had a varying amount of beans inside, with my wife's having a lot of beans and mine having fewer, making it less prominent. The mochi was soft and the red bean paste was tasty, but there was a bit too much starch coating the whole thing. Overall, it was a satisfying treat, despite some minor issues.

[Beloved by the Shogun: The Best Manju and One of Japan's Top Three Manju / Just a 1-Minute Walk from the Station] Today, my mother suddenly called last night and said she was returning to Osaka, so I hurriedly packed up and headed home! It would be rude to go back empty-handed, so I was wondering what to bring, but since Échiré is also available in Osaka and almost everything in Tokyo can be found in the Hanshin area, I was worried that if I brought something that was already available in department stores, there would be complaints. However, it seems that Hayashi Osamu praised it in the media, and he requested the "Shiose" variety. Oh! There is no Shiose store online♡ Moreover! It's on the first floor of Daimaru, where you can easily catch the Shinkansen (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵) I have to go even if I have to pay extra for a stopover. I am a slave to my mother, so w★Honmanju (last one) You can't tell at first glance, but behind the delicate thin skin, there is a lot of smooth anko and large red bean paste. Wow♡ Why didn't I eat this before! The deliciousness that cannot be imagined from the appearance (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵) I was a little moved because I had no expectations at all♡ The anko is well made and has a fruity flavor for some reason✨ This is really delicious! It's understandable that Toyotomi Hideyoshi liked this!★Shiose Manju It's the so-called sweet potato manju. It contains moderately sweet smooth anko and has a burn mark. It's a round version of my favorite Hanazono manju. It's undeniably delicious. It looks elegant and stands out in a candy dish♡ I haven't been busy lately, but I think it would be great to have it when serving tea. By the way, Mama says Tsuruya Yoshinobu is better. She doesn't like white anko, so it's definitely just making excuses (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵) Please go with your favorite Yoshinobu, I don't care♡★Jouka Wagashi "Kikyo" (last one) A beautiful purple wagashi. It depicts the kikyo flower with nerikiri. It contains smooth anko and the cross-section is also beautiful. I should have taken a picture... Once I start eating, I feel a little resistance to finishing it, so forget it. I will train myself! It was recommended by the shop assistant. It was the end of August, so it was a good time to switch, so I decided to try it. It was a good purchase♡ [Summary] The Honmanju is truly amazing! I think it's a big loss in life if you don't eat it (hey hey) I think it's a great job for Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who liked this delicious food and had a good sense of taste in Edo and Kyoto, who contributed to the culture. They still make fun of the old food culture on the east side, saying that oden is cooked in Kanto style, but personally, this Honmanju is a great job for Toyotomi Hideyoshi (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)! By the way, the Shiose Manju is an excellent product that lives up to the name of one of Japan's top three manju. I will omit the feedback from "Mama" who seems to be reading the post. I am planning to return to Osaka next month, so my life is important (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵) Hey, I have a lot of unfinished draft posts, and I wrote "today" a week ago! It's still for August... Everyone is diligent and I respect that٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶ [Rating] Due to COVID-19 vinyl measures at the department store counter, the overall score has dropped a bit. If it's just about taste, it's a highly recommended store with a rating of over 4✨ If you go to the main store, it should be even higher! ●Taste 4 See above! Especially the Honmanju, it's not only delicious but also has a history, so I think it's good to try it once to gain cultural knowledge♡ ●Service 3.5 The unique way the staff sister talks is fun (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵) Like a tour guide at a tourist spot, it's enjoyable♫ It reminded me of the toothpaste commercial that says "Thanks to Nata Dou"♡ It's excellent to stimulate the buying desire of customers in a department store counter, which often has uniform service. The explanation about the wagashi name on the menu can be rated as 4 if included. But here, the wagashi names are straightforward... ●Atmosphere 3.4 It's a department store counter, but it's close to 500 yen per piece of Japanese sweets ===========

I bought a pack of 9 Shihose manju and 3 regular manju. Shihose manju is made with ginkgo nuts instead of flour, giving it a unique texture that might make your mouth feel slightly itchy. The regular manju has a rich history, being a special treat that only Tokugawa Ieyasu enjoyed during the Edo period. It has a thin black outer layer and is mostly filled with sweet bean paste. The sellers at the shop were promoting manju featuring Hello Kitty, as well as those that were featured on TV shows, which was a bit off-putting for such a traditional establishment.

Following Sakakado, the recent routine started with a souvenir from my brother's Imperial Palace service last year. This shop is currently receiving renewed attention as it was featured on Job Chune this year. I visited on September 16, Heisei 30, and purchased four pieces of the classic product, "Nakamise" for 226 yen each, and one recommended item, "Usu-gawa Manju" for 432 yen, totaling 1336 yen. I actually wanted to buy more of the "Usu-gawa Manju," but it was the last one available. I am grateful for being able to get one at all. The "Usu-gawa Manju," which does not last long, was shared with my wife as soon as we got home. The red bean paste here is still exquisite in sweetness and flavor. By the way, Monaka lasts a little longer, so I will save it for later enjoyment. I will keep it a secret from my wife, who dislikes red bean paste. Despite disliking red bean paste, she loves the Monaka skin, so it's definitely a secret. That's all, thank you for the meal.

After work, I saw a lovely 94-year-old landlady on TV and couldn't help but stop by. I bought some Shihose manju as a souvenir. The smooth and elegant sweetness of the red bean paste, combined with the thin and soft skin, made it easy to eat and had an amazing texture!

Since I had come all the way to Daimaru's basement, I decided to buy some manju from Ense. First, as a souvenir... I tried to buy the Hello Kitty manju, but they were sold out. Instead, I bought the "Mame Daifuku" ☆ that was introduced on TV a while ago. It was a harmonious blend of slightly firm cooked beans, elegant sweetness of the red bean paste, and the soft and fluffy rice cake. It was a masterpiece that showcased the skills of the long-established shop. Next time, I definitely want to try the manju from Ense.

The business trip that started with the heavy rain in western Japan is coming to an end, and I am enjoying my usual relaxed mode at Tokyo Station. Now, this shop is a famous traditional Japanese confectionery store, and I first tried their monaka as a souvenir from my brother who participated in the Imperial Palace's service activities last year. Since then, I have been hooked on its deliciousness, and even when I visited Tokyo in March to watch my nephew's stage performance, I bought it from this Daimaru, which is now a favorite of mine. Recently, it was also featured on a TV show, and I was very curious about the impressive and dignified character of the famous female owner, along with the superb thin-skinned manju that showcases skilled craftsmanship. I visited on July 9, 2018, and the lady at the counter was also a lively character, and we ended up chatting away. - Sodegaura Monaka (6 pieces) 1,620 yen x 2 - Shihose Manju (5 pieces) 648 yen - Hon Manju 432 yen x 2 The monaka is simply delicious beyond words. There's nothing to say. The premium ones with the chrysanthemum crest can only be bought at the Imperial Household Agency, but the taste is the same. It is undoubtedly the best. There are some outrageous fools who claim to dislike red bean paste but love the skin, and eat only the skin, which is an unacceptable act! Such individuals should not try this monaka. When you eat this, you'll think, "I'm glad to be born Japanese." The Hon Manju mentioned by the famous female owner on the TV show is truly a masterpiece. It may cost nearly a coin for one piece, surpassing the price of a major national chain's beef bowl. However, as I discussed with the lady at the shop, it is a manju that is worth the price with its craftsmanship and expertise. It is elegant, refined, and has a rich flavor, truly a superb delight. The reason why I fell in love with the deliciousness of red bean paste in the first place was when I encountered the limited edition Mame Daifuku at Kaneshojuan on the first floor of this Daimaru over 10 years ago, which left an incredible impact on me. But now, I may have found a Japanese confection that could surpass Kaneshojuan. I truly believe, "I'm glad to be born Japanese." Thank you for the feast.

After watching my nephew's stage performance and heading back to Tokyo Station to catch the Shinkansen back to Yamagata, we decided to do some shopping at Daimaru Tokyo. My wife already had her eye on a specific shop, so she left me in the line for New York City Sand and went shopping at this store. The shop was the same one where my brother, who participated in the service work at the Imperial Palace last year, bought us some souvenirs from the Imperial Household Agency. The snacks he brought back were absolutely delicious, a true taste of royalty. When my wife found out that they also had a store at Daimaru, she made sure to check it out. She bought 4 pieces of red bean paste-filled snacks and 4 pieces of chunky red bean paste-filled snacks, each costing 226 yen. Additionally, she bought a sakura mochi for 324 yen, her personal favorite. On the Shinkansen ride back home, she couldn't wait and immediately tried the sakura mochi. She was ecstatic about how delicious it was. While it was indeed tasty, I personally found it to be just average, not quite living up to the impact of those snacks we had before. However, it was still delicious. Once we got home, we tried the snacks. First, we tried the chunky red bean paste-filled ones. You put the separate red bean paste in a different bag, then sandwich it between the snack skin from another bag to complete the set. This way, the snack skin stays crispy at all times, and the paste remains moist and delicious without worrying about moisture transferring to the snack skin. Just before eating, you combine the two for the ultimate delicious experience. The aroma of the snack skin brings back memories of the taste of those snacks we had six months ago. And then, a bite! The snack skin makes a crisp, satisfying sound as the crispy skin and moist paste create a sweet and delicious harmony in your mouth. Delicious! The fact that they are a supplier to the Imperial Household is a testament to the fact that they are not just any ordinary shop. I still have the red bean paste-filled snacks saved, so I look forward to enjoying those as well. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I stopped by Daimaru Tokyo to buy some souvenirs. It's conveniently located directly connected to Tokyo Station, so I often use it to purchase gifts before boarding the Shinkansen. While browsing around, I came across an interesting manju (Japanese sweet bun) and decided to buy it. It's the Hello Kitty manju from Shiose Sohonke. After a bit of research, I found out that they have been in business for over 660 years. The collaboration between this long-established Japanese confectionery and Hello Kitty is quite unexpected, don't you think? The Hello Kitty manju can be bought individually, but they also offer sets of 2, 3, or 4. If you buy 2 or more, they will pack them in a box with Hello Kitty on it. Although they recommended buying a set, I just wanted to try it out, so I purchased one Hello Kitty manju and one brown manju. The cuteness of Hello Kitty made it hard to eat... I had low expectations for the taste of these traditional sweets, but being from a 660-year-old shop, the texture was moist and delicate, and the red bean paste inside was smooth and subtly sweet, with a refined flavor. The price may seem a bit high compared to other manju, but I think it's perfect for souvenirs. Note: They advised not to refrigerate it as it will harden.

I visited Shiose at Daimaru in Tokyo Station. I bought some souvenirs for my children. The My Melody wagashi was 540 yen. Even though my child is not used to eating traditional Japanese sweets, they finished it all. The Hello Kitty manju was 324 yen. I tried a bite of it. It wasn't too sweet, and the texture of the skin with grated yam was fantastic. Traditional Japanese sweets don't last long, and may seem expensive at first glance, but compared to high-end chocolates or macarons, they are relatively affordable. I think there is no cuter souvenir than this. I will definitely purchase it again seeing how happy it made my child. By the way, the ones sold at Puroland are different from these manju (the prices are different).

I used Shiose Sohonke at Daimaru Tokyo store. The first floor of Daimaru is crowded with a lot of people preparing for the end of the year and Christmas. The aisles are also crowded with people, but I managed to get inside and heard that there is a limited sale of Hello Kitty wearing a Christmas Santa hat until December 25th. I thought it would be a great gift for my favorite friends, so I bought as many as I could. The expiration date is about 5 days, so it's easy to handle among fresh Japanese sweets. It was good that it didn't collapse even though I carried it around for a while. The red and white Hello Kitty is said to be appreciated even on celebratory occasions. I was impressed by the polite customer service. It was a great store. I definitely want to use it again. Thank you for the meal.

I received a gift from a friend, which was a Kitty-shaped manju from "Shiose Souhonke". I didn't know Kitty could turn into a manju. And to top it off, it's a limited edition Santa version, with Kitty wearing a red Santa hat. The manju comes in white and red (light pink) colors, resembling a red and white manju. I was curious about the taste of character manju, but Shiose Souhonke is a long-established Japanese confectionery shop, with the founder being the first to make bean paste-filled manju in Japan. Of course, it was delicious with a refined sweetness. Since the shop is only located in Kanto region, it would make a great souvenir from Tokyo. Thank you for the treat.

Next to Tokyo Station, there is a Daimaru department store♪ While wandering around the store, I found a Hello Kitty at the Japanese sweets shop!!! The cute Kitty was turned into a steamed bun (^_−)−☆ It feels a bit hard to eat such a cute Kitty, doesn't it? I bought it as a gift for a friend's daughter whom I will meet tomorrow♫ I also bought 2 for my family, and had them put in a cute Kitty box (^o^)/ There are two colors of Kitty, white and a hint of pink! When lined up together, the hint of pink is clearly visible (*^^*) After taking lots of photos, I enjoyed eating them♫ My husband, who loves steamed buns, also ate it all up and was very satisfied with the Kitty steamed bun~~~(^-^)/
