I had lunch on a weekday at the Taipei Night Market Odakyu Daiichi Seimei Building store, directly connected to Tochomae Station on the Toei Oedo Line. Although the basic information on Tabelog states that smoking is allowed in all seats, it is currently divided into smoking and non-smoking areas. The non-smoking area is located near the entrance. However, there is a slight smell of cigarettes coming from the smoking area in the back, so it may not be suitable for those who dislike any smell of tobacco. There are many types of lunch set meals available, and I chose the non-spicy knife-cut noodles set. The portion was generous, and there is also a corner where you can enjoy salad and dessert buffet-style, so you can eat to your heart's content! The food was not outstandingly delicious, but it was decently tasty and good value for money, making it perfect for a lunch break during work. It is also a reassuring place for those with a big appetite. ★Detailed impressions and menu are available on the blog: https://gokigenbiyori.com/taipeiyoichi-nishisinjyuku-odakyuu-daiichiseimei-building/

I always use this restaurant when events are held in this building or the nearby triangular plaza. It's a Taiwanese-style Chinese restaurant that I visit after 12 o'clock. There are affiliated stores nearby. The salad bar, which is all-you-can-eat for free, is a great deal, but the main dishes are a bit pricey. This time, I ordered shrimp chili, which took a while to be ready, so I loaded up on salad from the bar. Sometimes they don't explain the salad bar when you order, so if you're not sure, ask the staff. They used to have steamed chicken and dumplings, but not anymore, probably due to cost-cutting. The tofu dish seemed like the best value this time. The shrimp in the shrimp chili was small and not very firm, probably frozen. The sauce was plentiful though. Honestly, for the price of 650 yen, I expected more. It's basically the price with the salad bar included. I recommend the braised pork rice bowl, rice bowls, fried rice, or knife-cut noodles for a safe choice.

I wanted to have a hearty lunch, so I decided to visit a different location of the Taipei Night Market, the Odakyu Dai-ichi Seimei Building store, about a month after my last visit. Located next to Shinjuku Central Park, it's a little over a 10-minute walk from Shinjuku Station. I don't recall ever entering this building before, and upon entering, I confirmed that I indeed had not. The floor with food and beverage establishments seemed quite empty, with only a couple of customers ahead of me and none behind. The interior had a typical Chinese atmosphere. The lunch menu was similar to the NS Building store, offering set meals, rice bowls, and porridge, all accompanied by a salad bar. Considering my previous experience and the salad bar offerings, I decided to go for the fried chicken. The salad bar had almost the same items as the NS Building store. When I noticed the spring rolls were empty, I asked if they could be refilled, but was informed that the salad bar is a complimentary service and refills are not guaranteed due to the low customer traffic. After securing my salad bar items, my fried chicken rice bowl was served in about 10 minutes. The fried chicken rice bowl consisted of sliced chicken in a sweet and sour sauce, resembling a dish similar to oil-drizzled chicken. It was quite tasty, especially since it was freshly fried. The salad bar was satisfying in terms of variety for those with a big appetite. (February 2023)

This is a Taiwanese restaurant located on the basement floor of the Odakyu Dai-ichi Seimei Building in Nishi-Shinjuku. The restaurant is similar to the NS Building branch, with several small rooms each with 4-6 tables. Some areas allow smoking, so non-smokers may want to avoid it. The lunch menu includes a salad bar buffet with options like set meals, rice bowls, rice porridge, and knife-cut noodles, all priced under 1,000 yen. I tried the Taiwanese Spare Rib Knife-Cut Noodles (980 yen) which surprisingly came with a pork bone broth and real spare ribs. The noodles were a bit dry but thick and chewy, while the broth seemed to be made from a concentrate or powder. The salad bar buffet was mediocre, with a bland Chinese soup and a simple mapo tofu dish. The spring rolls were good, but the highlight was the steamed chicken with scallion sauce. Overall, the restaurant offers decent Chinese dishes at an affordable price.

Knife-shaved noodle set 880 yen including tax. I chose the Ma La knife-shaved noodles. First of all, what surprised me was that it came with an all-you-can-eat buffet! Usually, buffet-style meals like this tend to have average tasting food with limited variety, but everything except the glass noodles was delicious! Shrimp dumplings, spring rolls, tofu with X O sauce, daikon salad, Chinese soup - no shortcuts taken! The Ma La knife-shaved noodles had a mild spiciness and numbness, allowing you to taste the depth of the soup, which was delicious! The noodles were average. However, the overall balance was very good, and they didn't skimp on the greens! The minced meat was a bit lacking, which I personally appreciated, but some may find it unsatisfying. The default pickled vegetables were really tasty! It also came with almond jelly as a dessert, which was also delicious and milky. There were other desserts like Ma La cake in the buffet, it was amazing! I will definitely come back again.

The restaurant is supposed to make you feel like you're at a Taiwan night market, but it's a bit different from the actual experience. I went there for a year-end gathering with my coworkers. We drank a lot, so the pace was slow and we didn't finish much food, which might have affected our overall satisfaction with the dishes. It's a good place for people who enjoy drinking, but if you're looking for satisfying food, it's better to order individual dishes. The highlight is definitely the taste of Taiwan night market in the food. Overall, it's a good place for a large group in terms of cost and atmosphere.

I visited this restaurant in mid-May for the first time. I had the lunch set menu. This is a place often used by business customers. It is a Taiwanese restaurant. I stopped by on my way back from a visit to a certain company. I couldn't resist my hunger and decided to have a meal here. However, it wasn't particularly delicious.

I went to this restaurant for lunch. It was a Saturday, so there weren't many customers. There was a Sichuan Festival happening at Shinjuku Central Park, so I decided to check it out, but the portions were small and the prices were high. I found this restaurant by searching for Shinjuku Chinese restaurants. There was a service buffet near the entrance with mapo tofu, saliva chicken, water dumplings, shrimp chips, soup, dessert, and more. I wanted something spicy, so I ordered the Malatang noodles, and it was seriously spicy, I went numb! I had to order a cola to finish it. The saliva chicken was also surprisingly delicious for a free dish! It's a good deal, right?

■December 2018 - Chicken Congee Set: The congee included chicken, bok choy, and crispy fried skin. The texture was slightly watery, with a subtle dashi flavor. The chicken tasted like regular boiled chicken. During lunchtime, there was a buffet-style selection of dishes like glass noodles, bean sprouts, and water dumplings, but none of them stood out in terms of taste. The almond jelly and pickled mustard tuber were decent.

Lunch in Nishi-Shinjuku! There is a Taiwanese restaurant in the Odakyu Daiichi Seimei Building. The interior of the restaurant is narrow and deep, with a quite narrow aisle so be careful. The main highlight of the lunch here is the buffet-like setup at the entrance, which is included for free and adds to the value. However, indulging too much in this buffet can be a bit risky as it may lead to overeating. The main dishes offered here are typical Chinese set meals and knife-cut noodles. In terms of taste, it's just okay, nothing too special. Since they have the buffet-like setup, it's great for those who want to eat heartily.

Last time, I wanted to order the large serving of shrimp fried rice, but the waiter misunderstood and it turns out they could have made it. So, I decided to go back for a rematch. At the same time, the man next to me ordered the regular serving of shrimp fried rice, while I ordered the large serving. However, when the dishes arrived, they both looked the same in terms of portion size. I asked the waiter if this was really the large serving, and they confirmed that it was. I found it a bit unsatisfactory, but I still enjoyed my meal. I might have to think twice before ordering the large serving in the future.

This was my first visit this year. I ordered the usual jumbo shrimp fried rice, but they said they don't do jumbo size anymore. I used to be able to order it until last year. Another little pleasure gone. I really love the fried rice here. When I asked when they stopped doing jumbo size, they said, "Huh? We still do it." I wish the staff would confirm with each other properly. I wanted to eat a little more.

I had lunch. When I entered, I felt like I was in a pub rather than an office building. I ordered the large portion of shrimp fried rice (950 yen plus 100 yen tax) and it came with a buffet. There were dishes like mapo tofu, boiled dumplings, stir-fried bean sprouts, and spring rolls available for all-you-can-eat. The seasoning was strong. The fried rice was lightly seasoned. If you want to eat a lot, I recommend it. For lunch, if you order the shrimp fried rice set, you will also get a small portion of almond jelly and pickled vegetables. The staff can take orders in Japanese.

The restaurant is conveniently located near my workplace, so I frequent it for lunch. My personal recommendation is the knife-cut noodles. They are all delicious. On the other hand, I do not recommend the set meals as they lack any impact. One thing I appreciate is that the side dishes are buffet-style and all-you-can-eat, which is also quite tasty. However, recently when I go around 12:30, the buffet is often more than half empty with no replenishment, leaving only daikon salad to choose from. I think this is due to the staff's negligence. If this situation continues, I may stop going there.

There seems to be a Viking-style service near the entrance.

I arrived for a late lunch and found the atmosphere a bit intimidating. They had large plates of Chinese dishes near the entrance. I was seated and ordered fried chicken rice bowl since the fried rice was sold out. The place was quite busy, probably due to nearby workers coming in for lunch. After a short wait, the fried chicken rice bowl arrived. The staff informed me that the dishes near the entrance were all-you-can-eat, so I went to get some. There were various dishes like salad, spring rolls, and mapo tofu. I tried not to be too greedy and filled my plate. The food was not exceptional in taste, but the service was good overall. I went for a second round of all-you-can-eat dishes and found different options this time. The service was great, and I can see myself coming back often if I worked nearby.

I visited a restaurant in Shinjuku West Exit Park with my lunch companions because we haven't been to the area near the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. The restaurant seemed quite big as it attracted a lot of customers, but we didn't have to wait in line. I ordered shrimp fried rice and while waiting, I tried some dim sum like water dumplings and sweet potatoes at the half buffet. The flavors were either too bland or too sweet, quite extreme! The fried rice was a bit moist and not very fluffy, but the shrimp was plump and fresh. For dessert, I tried tapioca coconut milk at the dessert buffet and was surprised to find chewy tapioca pearls in it. Next time, I want to try the sweet and sour pork. Thank you for the meal!
