In the middle of Izumi-Oi shopping street in Taisho-ku, you will find a revolving sushi restaurant called Shintake. Next to it is Ayataka, an udon restaurant. I had visited Shintake, a revolving sushi restaurant that used to be in Bentencho (now relocated), before and remember feeling disappointed because the sushi I ordered took a long time to arrive. However, I decided to try their weekday lunch menu, which looked delicious in the menu with photos displayed outside the restaurant. Upon entering, I was seated at the counter where plates of sushi were piled up high. I couldn't see inside the counter, but I think there were about two sushi chefs working during lunchtime. The other customers were elderly retirees and moms returning from shopping. Since it's a bit far from Taisho Station, most of the customers were locals. I chose the Mix Lunch from the 11 weekday limited lunch options, which seemed to have a good portion size. I also ordered a bottle of beer. Orders were placed using a touch panel at the counter. The Mix Lunch costs 1375 yen (tax included), and the Asahi Super Dry beer in a medium bottle costs 550 yen (tax included). Every lunch comes with a dessert of black sesame ice cream, and there's a "free red miso soup for lunch" promotion. This time, the waiting time wasn't a concern despite the number of customers. The lunch was satisfying in terms of quality and quantity. The Mix Lunch included maguro (tuna), squid, salmon, fresh bonito, red shrimp, rolled omelette, seared squid, simmered conger eel, minced fatty tuna with green onion, quail eggs with grated Japanese yam, crab mayonnaise, and 6 pieces of tekka maki. There were also 8 pieces of nigiri sushi, 3 pieces of gunkan-maki, and 1 roll of tekka maki. The red miso soup had fish scraps in it, and the bowl was made with salmon scraps. The experience of eating here was completely different from the 110 yen per plate revolving sushi. The thickness, freshness, and taste of the ingredients were excellent, and the cost performance was also good. Unfortunately, there was no wasabi provided, so I took a small packet of wasabi from the revolving lane, placed it on the sushi rice, topped it with the ingredients, and enjoyed it. Since it was lunchtime, having a beer felt just right. The black sesame ice cream dessert was served at a perfect timing. It felt like saying goodbye to the nightmare of Bentencho in the past. Overall, it was a great value for a weekday lunch. I would like to come back with my wife for dinner once the state of emergency is lifted and we can enjoy beer. Thank you for the delicious meal.
