Today, I walked from Namba towards Nipponbashi and turned east onto Tanimachi-suji towards Tennoji. This area is filled with temples and schools. The restaurant is located right by exit 4 of Shitennoji-mae Yuhigaoka Station on the Tanimachi Line, in front of Tennoji Police Station at the intersection of Tennoji-suji. It was just before lunchtime, so there were still empty seats inside the restaurant. This is a non-self-service restaurant. I scanned the QR code on the ticket machine, selected the Rosukatsu Set with the coupon for 500 yen, and tried to pay with QR code as usual, only to see a message saying "Not available" and hearing a voice saying "Cash or transportation IC card only". I ended up paying with my mobile Suica, but I was a bit sentimental as I had to use a paper coupon to get the potato salad, which used to be included for 500 yen without needing a paper coupon. The portion was satisfying, so I didn't need to ask for extra rice, and I finished my meal quickly. As I left, I noticed that other customers were also confused about the payment method at the ticket machine. It seems that the version of the ticket machine had reverted back to before QR code usage. By the time I left, it was lunchtime, and three staff members were busy dealing with customer inquiries and operating the manned register, causing a bit of chaos. It's scary how things can go wrong with the ticket machine.

Lunch on this day was around Shitennoji-mae Yuhigaoka Station. I went to "Matsunoya Shitennoji-mae Yuhigaoka Store" right across from the exit. It is a tonkatsu chain restaurant from the Matsuya group. It's nice to have a quick and filling meal once in a while. They use a ticket system for ordering, and you can pay with various methods including PayPay. I ordered the Rosukatsu & Authentic Karaage Set (\890) on this day. You can get a free extra serving of rice! Of course, I asked for it. On the table, there are two types of sauce, two types of dressing, salt, shichimi pepper, and karashi. It's nice to have various options for changing the taste. Here it is, the Rosukatsu & Authentic Karaage Set. It comes with a generous serving of rice, miso soup, rosukatsu, karaage, and shredded cabbage. What a feast! Having both katsu and karaage is too luxurious. I dressed them up with sauce and karashi, and let's eat! Delicious! The rosukatsu is seriously delicious. As expected from a pork cutlet specialty chain. The karaage was juicy and tasty, but the rosukatsu was the best. The rice disappeared in no time. Well, Matsuya chain is truly amazing. I am very satisfied. The restaurant has a ticket machine on the left side upon entering, tables and seats for solo diners in the front, and the kitchen, takeout counter, and staircase to the second floor seating area on the right side, giving off a typical chain restaurant vibe. The customers were mainly elderly groups and families, likely due to its proximity to a famous temple, with a line forming in front of the ticket machine. This time, I purchased a ticket for the classic "Rosu Katsu Don" dish. Upon trying it, I found that the tonkatsu used was thick and had a satisfying texture, different from the katsudon at regular diners, and it was topped with a slightly rich egg and dashi sauce which was delicious. Alright, I arrived at Yuhigaoka Station and decided to go to Katsuya, but ended up at Matsunoya by mistake. Oh well, I decided to go in anyway. Inside, I saw an older man struggling with the ticket machine, so I offered to let him go ahead of me since I was feeling a bit under the weather. After he placed his order, I tried to order using the touch screen, but it was quite complicated. I ended up resetting it and starting over to finally place my order. The set I ordered had thick and crunchy breading, which made me feel a bit queasy after eating. I tried to peel off the breading, but it was stuck to the filling and wouldn't come off. I think next time I'll stick to Katsuya for my tonkatsu fix.

I had the delicious and huge Tartar Mega Chicken Cutlet set meal at Matsunoya! It's so big that one piece is equivalent to two bowls of rice. Matsunoya is known for their excellent tonkatsu, but their chicken dishes like chicken katsu and chicken cutlet are also top-notch.

There is a restaurant called KYK that seems to have become more popular than the major tonkatsu chains. You can have a tonkatsu set meal for only 550 yen. Even though it's only 550 yen, the tonkatsu is more authentic compared to regular set meal restaurants, with a good thickness and well-fried. The taste is also satisfying for the price. It's amazing how a group of restaurants can be so successful.

During the coronavirus state of emergency on the morning of April 17th, there were hardly any people outside. Despite the risks, I am truly grateful that the shop was open. I thought it would be crowded during lunchtime, so I went around 1:00 pm to avoid the rush. It was still quite busy! The first floor was almost full, but I managed to find a seat. There was only one ticket machine, so it was crowded. I ordered a pork cutlet set meal with refreshing ponzu sauce, grated daikon, and green onions. There are still customers lining up at the ticket machine.

I tried the Katsu Curry Udon at Matsunoya that I had been curious about (550 yen) and it was really delicious! The udon noodles had a good texture and the curry had a nice level of spiciness.
