In Fukuoka, I stayed at "Toyoko Inn Fukuoka Tenjin". It is located a little off the main street of Watanabe. It has been 5 and a half years since my last stay in October 2017. Breakfast is buffet style, and after disinfecting hands, you wear gloves to serve yourself. There were two types of rice dishes available, and it was nice to have mentaiko (spicy cod roe) in the morning since it's Fukuoka. I had seconds of rice. This is a Toyoko Inn located in Tenjin, Fukuoka. Due to the impact of the coronavirus, breakfast was served as a bento box. It included onigiri, egg, and hamburger, but unfortunately there were no vegetables. I was able to request miso soup separately. For drinks, there was self-service coffee, water, and tea available.

In the past, Toyoko Inn's breakfast service only consisted of onigiri and miso soup. However, recently, breakfast menus have become more diverse nationwide, with service contents varying by location. The rooms have a consistent atmosphere nationwide, with spacious and clean beds. The tables are also large, making it ideal for business trips. The downside is that there is only one elevator, so it can be time-consuming during breakfast or check-out times. Breakfast service hours are from 7:00 to 9:30. There seems to be no curry service in the evenings. The breakfast service is self-service, with the menu including simmered squid, taro, and daikon, meatball and potato stew, meatball and tofu in spicy sauce, salad, pasta salad, two types of onigiri, miso soup, pickled vegetables, and two types of bread. Unfortunately, compared to other restaurants, the side dishes are a bit lacking.

During my trip to Fukuoka, I stayed at Toyoko Inn Fukuoka Tenjin. It was during China's National Day holiday, so the town was full of Chinese tourists. Even at breakfast, there was a lot of Chinese being spoken. The breakfast consisted of rice, onigiri, miso soup, and 5-6 side dishes. The side dishes were quite varied and the miso soup was delicious. While eating breakfast and reading the newspaper, I saw an article about Kazuo Ishiguro, a British author of Japanese descent from Nagasaki, winning the Nobel Prize in Literature. Continuing from yesterday, here is the second part of the accommodation review for "Toyoko Inn Fukuoka Tenjin". Today's article is about breakfast. Toyoko Inn is known for its complimentary breakfast buffet, so I was looking forward to it. This hotel costs ¥7,128 per night, so I was excited for breakfast time. The breakfast area is located on the first floor in the restaurant. It was clean but the space felt a bit cramped. The elevator to the breakfast area was a bit slow. This was a bit disappointing. The breakfast buffet had a limited selection. I grabbed some onigiri, hamburger and vegetable stew, boiled egg, simmered vegetables, and salad. There was also miso soup available. To be honest, the dishes were not very impressive. The taste was just okay. I wish they would put more effort into the complimentary breakfast. For a hotel that costs ¥7,128 per night, the breakfast was a bit underwhelming. I hope they improve it in the future. Thank you for the meal. Tonight's accommodation cost: ¥7,128.

On February 12th (Friday), on a holiday, I went drinking in Fukuoka. Today, I first attended the sake tasting event at Izu Honten (Kamenoo) in Fukuoka, then headed back to Hakata for a drinking tour. The first stop was Udon Hirai, which is also loved by Tamori-san. The second stop was Maruta, known for its great value. The third stop was Gion Tetsunabe in Hakata. After that, I met up with a friend who was on a business trip in Hakata, and we went to Hikari, a popular pub near Hakata Station. Finally, we ended the drinking tour at an izakaya called Onitaro near the hotel with some ramen. After finishing the drinking tour, I collapsed into bed at the hotel Toyoko Inn Fukuoka Tenjin. The next morning, I had a simple breakfast of rice balls and side dishes at the hotel. It was enough for the morning after a night of drinking.

(Prologue... When it comes to business trips, it's always Toyoko Inn) For my Fukuoka business trip, the company arranged for me to stay at this hotel. I wondered why they didn't arrange for me to stay at a Toyoko Inn in Hakata, but instead chose Tenjin. It turns out, on my last Fukuoka trip, the company arranged for me to stay in Hakata, so this time I requested a different location, which is why I chose this hotel myself. The hotel is conveniently located just a 4-minute walk from Tenjin. It's even closer to the Nishitetsu Tenjin Station. After a night of drinking in Nakasu, I checked in at 11:30 PM and went straight to bed. I woke up at 6 AM the next morning, took a refreshing bath, and headed to the breakfast venue around 7 AM. At the entrance, the familiar Oyaji-san doll welcomed me. I couldn't resist picking up four onigiri this time, along with daikon salad and tofu. I also found a salad with plenty of eggs, which made me wonder why it was there alongside the daikon salad. I picked it up anyway, along with some white miso soup, which I enjoyed. The egg salad turned out to be perfect for making egg sandwiches, as I later discovered a bread section nearby. Despite some regrets, the breakfast overall was satisfying, with a good selection of items. Compared to the Toyoko Inn in Hakata, the variety of dishes may be limited, but the option to choose bread and enjoy egg sandwiches makes this hotel worth recommending, especially for those who love egg sandwiches like the famous food critic from Nagoya.

Near Tenjin Minami Station, there is a Toyoko Inn. There are many highly rated restaurants nearby, so there are plenty of options for dinner. However, I wasn't very hungry and ended up having a very light meal, which was a shame. The hotel still looks quite new. There is only one elevator, so it can be crowded at times. The breakfast selection is limited, but the taste is good.

We stayed at Toyoko Inn. My companion didn't wake up, so I went alone for breakfast. They had curry and other basic options. I kind of wanted scrambled eggs though. You can also pack your breakfast and eat it in your room, like a lunchbox for later. Well, it's included with the room, so I should be grateful to the staff who prepare it. Oh, they were selling carbonated water in the vending machine. It came in a unique container by Toyoko Inn. The company that makes it is called Justice Co., Ltd. It's funny how they use "justice" in their name. After that, my companion and I unexpectedly had seafood bowls for breakfast by the sea.
