I ordered the premium nigiri set for 2,500 yen. The sushi was served all at once, not one by one. The fish was small, but the rice was normal. The taste was average. I wish the rice was a bit warmer and the fish a bit cooler. There was no explanation about the fish, and when I asked about the origin, it was vague.

My favorite sushi restaurant in the Matsumae-Fukushima area. A must-visit for lunch in Matsumae. Located right below Matsumae Castle. There is only parking space for 2 cars, and there is no nearby parking, so it may be difficult to visit during cherry blossom season.

I often hear about Matsumae sushi, so I wondered if the sushi restaurants in Matsumae are delicious. So, I went to eat while seeing the cherry blossoms. When I checked on Tabelog, there were only about two sushi restaurants near Matsumae Castle. I visited Ezo Sushi near the entrance of the castle. It's the season of the Matsumae Cherry Blossom Festival, but I was able to enter without a reservation. I ordered the Special (2400 yen). It included 10 pieces of sushi: yellowtail, tuna, flounder, shrimp, crab, scallop, shad roe, salmon roe, sea urchin. It was served with hot tea. The sushi was delicious, and the wasabi was quite strong, which was good. The sea urchin and tuna were especially delicious. I wanted to have a beer, but I was the designated driver, so I just enjoyed the view. Enjoying cherry blossoms during the day, eating Special sushi, everything was perfect. The edge of the tatami mat has fish kanji characters, which is a nice touch!

After visiting Matsumae Castle, we went to a restaurant called Tokujou 2300. The head chef there has a unique and intense presence.

Before climbing to the famous cherry blossom spot, Matsumae Castle, we had lunch. The restaurant had moved, so we missed it as the map on Tabelog was incorrect. The interior had tatami seating which was almost full, while the counter had some seats available, with many families and groups dining. We ordered the "jyou nigiri" set for 1700 yen. We were quickly provided with hot towels and tea served in teacups with the restaurant's Ezo (Hokkaido) name on them, which was delicious. After about a 10-minute wait, our order arrived on wooden geta sandals, served over the counter. The set included 8 pieces of nigiri and 4 rolls, for a total of 12 pieces. Starting from the bottom left, we had abalone, hairy crab, squid, flying fish roe, yellowfin tuna, bluefin tuna, flounder, shrimp, cucumber roll, pickled plum roll, cucumber roll, and minced tuna with green onion roll. The abalone, bluefin tuna, flounder, and shrimp were particularly delicious. The quality of the ingredients was high and tasty, so I would like to try the "special" set for 2400 yen next time. Thank you for the delicious "jyou nigiri" sushi.

This is a sushi restaurant located at the foot of Matsumae Castle. I discovered this restaurant with a refreshing name in an area with not much information about eateries. I thought it might be a good place to have sushi. The high-quality nigiri sushi wasn't too expensive, around 2,000 yen. I had a non-alcoholic beer with it since I was driving. While waiting for my sushi, I noticed that the head chef had appeared on TV with Daisuke Miyagawa. He seemed intimidating, but I wondered if he had a sense of humor. During the wait, I encountered a strange old man who said, "I really love sushi!" and asked for a matchbox as a souvenir before leaving, like something out of a bizarre event. The sushi was the traditional Matsumae-style sushi, with fresh abalone, snow crab, and scallops. The rice was okay, just your typical sushi rice. The non-alcoholic beer was only 300 yen, a great deal! They have tatami seating, so it's suitable for families. If you're in the area and craving sushi, it's worth a try. Despite the intimidating atmosphere, it's not that bad.

The location of Ezo Sushi is just past the Matsumae Town Hall, on the left side. There are only two parking spaces in front of the shop, so be careful. I arrived 10 minutes before the lunch opening time and found the parking lot full with a car of 4 customers already parked. Luckily, I managed to park just in time. Today is Monday, which is the regular closing day, but they are open due to the cherry blossom festival. The shop opened on time, and I ordered the Special Nigiri Sushi for 2300 yen. The 4 customers before me also ordered the same. The sushi included hamachi, maguro, hirame, ebi, kani, kitamai, kazunoko, ikura, uni, for a total of 10 pieces. The abalone, which I love, was very fresh with a great texture and flavor. The hamachi had a good amount of fat, the hirame was firm, and all the other toppings were fresh and delicious. The shop got quite busy later due to the cherry blossom festival, so it was good that I arrived early.

It's a regular sushi restaurant. The chef seems stubborn but also a bit shy, which is charming. The sushi is delicious and reasonably priced. A must-visit place when in Matsumae.
