I came because I really wanted to eat pork buns and noodles. It was crowded during lunchtime, but I was able to sit down in about 5 minutes because the turnover rate was high. I was torn between yakisoba and ramen, but this time I chose ramen. The soup was light and delicious with crunchy vegetables. I also wanted to eat fried rice, but this time I resisted because I also had pork buns. I would like to try other menu items next time.

I stopped by because I wanted to try the limited edition white peach. I bought 6 ice candies to get dry ice for free. I got 3 white peach, 2 fruits, and 1 red bean flavors. The white peach was delicious, but of course, the fresh ones in season are better. The fruits and red bean flavors were better in my opinion. The fruits were tasty with chunks of strawberry and pineapple, and the red bean was firm and enjoyable to eat. I like it more than Inoue-ya's red bean. How many candies can fit in a rectangular box again?

In the underground of Abeno Harukas, there is a shop that I have visited several times. The sample of hiyashi chuka looks delicious! The summer limited menu includes 551 hiyamugi for 980 yen and hiyashi chuka. It's a Korean cold noodle dish that I eat a few times in the summer. It seemed a bit expensive, but it came with plenty of ingredients like roasted pork, shredded omelette, ham, cucumber, tomato, lettuce, and shrimp. I added lots of mustard and enjoyed it. The noodles were cold and the dish was filled with ingredients. Having both roasted pork and ham was luxurious. It was delicious in its own way. I prefer soy sauce flavor over sesame flavor. It was a bit on the salty side. Thank you for the meal.

I was wandering around the Kintetsu department store in Tennoji, trying to decide what to eat for a late lunch. Since I didn't have much time to spare, I was thinking of getting some takeout deli items, but then I found this restaurant and decided to go in. I ordered the popular seafood yakisoba and fried rice set using the ticket machine. The pork buns were for takeout only, due to their strong smell. The seafood yakisoba had large shrimp, squid, and plenty of vegetables, all on top of crispy fried noodles. While not as good as Chinese restaurants specializing in fried noodles or plate udon, I think it's better than chain restaurants. I probably didn't need to order the fried rice, though. Nowadays, many ramen shops serve really delicious fried rice.

I still remember the first time I tried the seafood yakisoba at Hourai, I was amazed! The dish is filled with lots of seafood - shrimp, squid, scallops - and you can eat it at the counter. Most people order the seafood yakisoba. The staff at Hourai are very polite, but the customer service at the dining area is a bit lacking. The seafood yakisoba costs 950 yen, a bit more expensive now, but still comes with large shrimp, squid, and scallops, along with delicious noodles. The seasoning is a bit salty, but it's still tasty. I find myself craving it regularly.

You can enjoy the hidden gem 551 at the exposed counter on the basement second floor of Kintetsu Department Store. I ordered the Spicy Shrimp Fried Rice for 880 yen. The fried rice with spicy shrimp was delicious. Thank you for the meal, 551 Horai!

Yokohama is located on the second basement floor of Harukas. It has about 8 counter seats for dining in. When I went around 3 pm, there were seats available and I was seated right away. I ordered seafood yakisoba and mini Tenshinhan. It's a bit pricey but delicious, and the portion size is just right! The seafood yakisoba had two large prawns, squid, scallops, and you could taste the flavors of the ingredients. There was a long line to buy pork buns, but it seems you can purchase them when dining in. I didn't buy pork buns today though.

I visit Osaka every year and I always make sure to eat the pork buns from 551. Usually, I get them to go and eat them at the hotel or bring them back to Tokyo. This time, I had an early morning flight and started to get hungry before lunch. So, I stopped by the depachika in Tennoji station and quickly had a pork bun for 260 yen. When I sat at the counter, the freshly steamed pork bun was served right away! The staff noticed when my tea ran out and promptly refilled it, the service was great. This was my first time trying a freshly steamed bun and it tasted a bit different. It felt like it had more oil and a stronger flavor when it cooled down or was reheated. The onion flavor was more pronounced. But it was delicious. I recommend eating at the counter.

I heard from my sister that the sweet and sour pork was full of meat and delicious, so I decided to stop by. I stood in front of the ticket machine. They have set menus, but I can't eat that much... I ordered the sweet and sour pork and rice. It felt like they were making it right in front of me. Sweet and sour pork. Rice. Soup also arrived. Yay. It's true. Full of meat. The vegetables are just for decoration. This is so satisfying. The seasoning is a bit strong. Not too sour. The rice goes well with it. I'm full. Thank you for the meal.

In Osaka, there is a special pork bun shop called 551 Horai. When you ride the Nankai Electric Railway, you will see customers holding 551 paper bags and a delicious smell in the air. Eating a pork bun on the Shinkansen is a nostalgic experience, like eating a shumai bento from Sukiya on the way from Tokyo Station. Just as good as eating a pork bun on the Shinkansen is eating a hot pork bun inside the shop. A slightly cooled pork bun with the fat soaked into the dough is divine, but a hot pork bun also has its own deliciousness. The hidden gem of dumplings is also quite good. We can only express gratitude to the Taiwanese person who created this cultural heritage of Osaka called 551 Horai.

The younger brother and his wife (plus one nephew) returned to Osaka, so the younger sister and her husband (plus two nephews) also visited their parents' home. Since we always eat too much during lunch, this time we decided to keep it light and opted for 551's pork buns. The pork buns cost 190 yen each (excluding tax) and have a thick, sweet skin that even the kids enjoy. The 3-year-old and 1-year-old from the younger sister's family couldn't quite reach the filling because the bites were too big for them. Nevertheless, they seemed to enjoy the taste. As for the 3-year-old's souvenir, we always bring a figure from the Anima series, and this time we chose a chimpanzee and a sea turtle based on his request. It was a bit of a hassle to bring a camera tripod for taking photos of the pork buns, so we ended up using the chimpanzee and sea turtle figures for the photoshoot. The 3-year-old found a new way to play by arranging the figures around the pork buns, which he probably thought was a form of food education.

At the station, I bought two pork buns and some meat dumplings that you can't find elsewhere. When I got home, I added some onions to the meat dumplings to make them more filling. I also bought an extra one to freeze in a Ziplock bag and enjoy it another day. I've been really into meat dumplings lately.

Once upon a time~♪ Today's lunch was from 551 Horai at Abeno Kintetsu store. The set included shrimp chili with about 10 shrimp and mixed fried rice, called shrimp chili fried rice, and two shumai. The fried rice was lightly seasoned and delicious, perfect for someone who likes mild flavors like me. The shumai had the same filling as their pork buns. The set also came with egg drop soup, making it a great deal. (^-^)。。。

On December 25th, my sister and the kids came from Osaka to spend the New Year holidays at our parents' house. They brought me a gift from 551 Horai - warm meat buns, shumai, and shrimp shumai! I was so happy! 551 Horai is famous for their meat buns, but personally, I think their shumai is delicious too! Both the regular shumai and the shrimp shumai are tasty even without dipping them in soy sauce. The shumai that was served for dinner disappeared quickly, and I ended up sneakily eating a few pieces...

I received a pork bun to heat up at home from a food fair at a department store in Shinjuku. I finally got to enjoy a hot pork bun, and it was delicious. The skin was tasty. Hot pork buns are definitely the best.

When I visited Abeno Harukas, I found a 551 store and bought some souvenirs. Even on weekdays during the day, there is a line, but you can purchase smoothly. This time, I tried chimaki. I bought chicken and quail, and pork and chestnut. Each one costs 380 yen. Both are classic items, with sticky rice cooked just right and a flavorful broth that isn't too strong. The ingredients are bite-sized and easy to eat. I was initially skeptical about the combination of pork and chestnut, but after eating it multiple times, I found that the sweet chestnut and Japanese-style pork actually go well together. Every time I purchase, they can't serve warm ones, so I have to get chilled ones. Personally, I wish they could offer warm chimaki as well, for those times when I want to eat on the go like an onigiri. It's a recommended item after pork buns.

My mother's generation usually buys 551 as a souvenir when they go to Tennoji, often purchasing it at the Tennoji Station store. However, this time we found it at Harukas and bought some to take home. There was quite a line here too... but with the ropes set up, we only waited a few minutes to get our pork buns. Next to the sales area was a Chinese restaurant with counter seats, and I found myself intrigued by the Tianjin rice on the menu. I went through a phase of loving Tianjin rice, so I would like to try it here if it becomes my next food obsession.

The sweet and sour flavor of the pork was strong and tasty, making it a great match with the rice. Again, best when eaten warm.
