It took about 65 hours to extinguish the fire, which spread to at least 42 stores, causing a large-scale fire. The beloved market was left in a completely different state... The market, known as the kitchen of Kitakyushu, started its business by lifting cargo from ships on the nearby Kantake River in the Taisho era. Located on the east side of the Kantake River, it connects to the Tangaicho Gin Ten Street across the Komonji Street. The market consists of stores selling fresh fish, vegetables, meat, dried goods, fruits, fish cakes, confectionery, and more. Both ordinary consumers and chefs visit the market for purchases. The market has been featured in gourmet and travel shows, attracting many tourists. On February 10, 2021, the "Tanga District Land Readjustment Project" was decided as a project plan. The disaster struck while the redevelopment project was underway. The fire started near the north entrance. The "Shin Tangaicho" area, which suffered significant damage this time, is not included in the land readjustment project area. Shin Tangaicho, which had hidden gem eateries, is now a memory. Currently, seven eateries from Shin Tangaicho are setting up a food stall village in an empty lot in Tangaicho under the slogan "#Nebagiba Tangaicho." ~Memorandum~ A market in Kitakyushu City, Kokura, exuding a deep atmosphere!! At this time, an event mainly led by students was also held. Not just on weekends, but during this time, I spent my free time cooking and preparing meals. Looking back now, I remember making elaborate dishes (laughs). I focused on rare vegetables at the Tanga Market and was into "Bagna Cauda" at that time... I made "Tachiponzu" and "Tachigratin" with Hokkaido whitefish... I kept it simple with steamed Buzen oysters... I really want to go back to Kyushu again!!

The arcade makes shopping easy even on rainy days. I checked out the shops along the street and did some shopping on my way back. Vegetables are very cheap here. "Rou-sin" offers a roll bread with egg salad for 100 yen. It is filled with plenty of egg. The slightly sweet taste is intriguing. Another roll bread with potato salad filling is also 100 yen. At "Usami Shoten," I bought the fermented rice bran dish I wanted. The fermented sardines cost 200 yen. The difference in price of 250 yen and 300 yen is due to the size. I thought it would have a unique fermented flavor, but it turned out to be a normal savory stew. From "Chan," I got Korean takeout. One shrimp in kejang sauce costs 250 yen. It wasn't spicy at all, more like marinated in a soy sauce-based dressing. It lacked the Korean taste, but the shrimp was plump and chewy. The pig feet for 250 yen had what looked like chili peppers, but it wasn't spicy at all. It was lightly seasoned, chewy, and delicious. From "Kashiwa-ya Kurose," I got a takeout of grilled chicken skewers for 120 yen. They were just average, not particularly big or juicy. There are many shops in the arcade, and many accept PayPay, making it very convenient.
