There are many shops in the depachika (department store basement) called Ryokuchiya in Osaka. It's convenient and nice that you can buy souvenirs here without bringing them from Nagoya. I purchased a selection of famous confectioneries as a small gift for a friend. They will be delighted as they can enjoy a variety of treats from Yomoyama, Shinanoji, and Tabimakura.

Autumn is here, with beautiful red leaves! While strolling around Hankyu Department Store, I found some cute traditional Japanese sweets. I checked the expiration date and it's until late November. It's a perfect souvenir as it lasts quite long. Priced at 260 yen each, these sweets are filled with matcha red bean paste. They go really well with warm tea. It's a gift that would make anyone happy to receive or buy for themselves. Delicious!

I went to Osaka for the first time in a while and stumbled upon a nostalgic shop. It was Ryo Kuchiya Korekiyo, a long-established shop from Nagoya. They are famous for their water yokan and dorayaki named Chisei. These are flavors I grew up with. It's like the origin of my love for dorayaki. When I compared it with the recent ones, I felt that they have evolved, but nostalgia is important. It was delicious and brought back memories.

A shop that offers a variety of traditional Japanese sweets. It seems convenient for souvenirs or gifts. They have "Tabimakura" and "Shinanoji" which are both shaped like pillows? Well, Shinanoji also has the same shape haha. Both have a thin skin wrapped around red bean paste. I prefer Tabimakura because it has a sesame flavor. ☺️

On January 9, 2018, the TV show "Matsuko no Shiranai Sekai" featured a traditional Japanese confectionery shop known as one of the three major traditional confectionery shops. This shop, located in Nagoya, was established in 1634. The name Ryokuchiya Korekiyo was bestowed by the second lord of the Owari Domain, Tokugawa Mitsutomo. I found out that this shop has a branch at Umeda Hankyu in Osaka, so I bought their famous confection "Taketori Monogatari" for 1,836 yen. The confection is also available in a smaller size, which I purchased for 918 yen. When I opened the box, I was amazed by the beautiful colors of the confection, which was about 10cm long. It had a delicate and not overly sweet taste, with a chestnut in the center. I enjoyed it so much that I want to buy the larger size next time and savor more of this elegant treat. While looking for something to buy at Hankyu Department Store, I came across Ryokuchiya Korekiyo's "Futari Shizuka". It is a round container with two people wearing Heian period clothing depicted on it. Inside, there are sweet dried confections made with wasanbon sugar. I remember being impressed when I had this at a friend's house in elementary school, thinking "What a lovely container and delicious treat!" This elegant "Futari Shizuka" is the origin of my love for wasanbon sugar. It's amazing how it hasn't changed at all after so many years! This time, I bought the value pack with 25 pieces for ¥810 (tax included). Wrapped in thin washi paper, the round red and white dried confections of "Futari Shizuka" are still charming to look at. When you put it in your mouth, a sweet sensation spreads. I love how it slowly melts away. It seems like it would go well not only with Japanese tea but also with coffee for a while (*^^).

I came to Hankyu Department Store. In Nagoya, I went to the big Ryokuchiya Korekiyo, and it's also extensive in Osaka. I tried the matcha flavor of Otoki Mountain before, and this time I bought the white bean paste one. The size is cute, and the white bean paste is elegant. It costs 86 yen including tax, which is not cheap compared to Chidoriya's larger size. Thank you for the meal! September 2015. Nankaihawks1's gourmet guide. Nankaihawks1's blog.

I have been captivated by the cute appearance of "Ninin Shizuka" (Two Quiet Ones) from Aichi's long-established store, Ryokuchiya Korekiyo. The name of this famous confection is inspired by Noh theater. The ingredients include wasanbon sugar, powdered sugar, and red and white coloring. Each piece is individually wrapped in paper and unravels softly and delicately. It is a small dried sweet that can be split in half to share. It tastes delicious and pairs well with coffee or black tea. The container is also very cute and would make a great gift for someone.

I was attracted by the beautiful appearance and bought it. It's small so you can eat it without cutting it, and it's easy to eat. I think it was a limited edition item. Both were refreshing and delicious. Personally, I liked it. My mother said that this shop is her favorite among the shops in Nara. I don't know if it's really a shop in Nara... If I remember, I would like to go again. Other items seem to be delicious too.

I have never seen a title like "2013/4月どこかで見た事のあるタイトル~ってぇ~? ふ~ん?知りませんなぁ~(((◞( *☻◡☻)◟トットット". My background is humble, and I have no connection to traditional shops or famous sweets! "両口屋是清" is a 370-year-old traditional Japanese confectionery shop based in Nagoya. I was introduced to them through a well-known golf club, and we held a competition together. The president and director came to greet us, and I wondered about the quality of their products. They have unique sweets like "旅まくら" with a sesame flavor, "信濃路" with egg skin and red bean paste, and "よも山" with a mountain design. The connection between traditional sweets and tea ceremonies dates back to the Edo period, with "猿屋三郎右衛門" being invited to make sweets for the Owari domain. "両口屋是清" received the title of "菓子どころ" from the Owari domain, making them one of the oldest traditional confectionery shops. This makes me think their red bean paste must be very refined. It must be tough for salespeople at such a prestigious golf course! (I won't be buying a membership!)

Located in the basement of Hankyu Umeda Department Store, in the food section dedicated to traditional Japanese sweets, you will find Ryokuchiya Korekiyo. The store is small and not very noticeable among the many other sweet shops in the area. Their specialty is a sweet called "Sennari," which looks like a dorayaki but has a pattern on the surface resembling a marine creature called "takonomakura." This pattern represents the cross-section of a "Sennari hyotan," which is where the name of the sweet comes from. I decided to purchase the "Sennari" in the red bean and matcha flavors. The red bean one had a nice texture and a gentle sweetness, while the matcha one I saved for later as it can last for a while. It's nice to be able to enjoy traditional Japanese sweets even when living in the Kansai region.

This is a review of a traditional Japanese sweets shop in Nagoya that I found at Hankyu department store. While I enjoy rakugan, my favorite product from Ryokuchiya is the "Tabimakura." It consists of sweet bean paste wrapped in a thin layer with black sesame seeds, lightly baked into a long, slender shape. I particularly love the slightly chewy texture of the outer layer. Another unique and delicious treat is the Mizuyokan, which has a shape that resembles flowing water. I tried the matcha flavor, and the smooth matcha bean paste had a mild bitterness. It is not overly sweet, making it perfect for summer with a refreshing finish.

This is a gift I received. It's a snack I've received before, but never got to try as my mom always ended up eating it all. I didn't really mind back then, but later I saw it sold out at a department store in Fukuoka and realized it must be a famous and delicious snack. So, I was a bit regretful. But now, I got it again! Lucky me! The reason I wasn't interested in it before was its appearance, which reminded me of a rice cracker. But when I tried it this time, it was delicious! It melts in your mouth and is not overly sweet. It's elegant in taste and appearance. I found out that the red and white colors are considered lucky too. Knowing that makes it even more special. I'm glad I got to try it again. It was a satisfying snack. Thank you! ✨
