Kameya Hachiman is a renowned traditional Japanese sweets shop that originated in 1702. Recently, they reopened a new store in the basement of the Abeno Harukas Kintetsu Main Store in Osaka. The store offers a special box containing three different sweets - "Maizuru" which is a type of baked confectionery, "Hyakuraku" which is a type of monaka (wafer cake), and "Satsuma Daigaku Imo" which is a sweet potato confection. Each box is a great deal as it includes two pieces of each sweet, which would normally cost around 1,500 yen if purchased separately. The sweets are delicious and well worth the price. If you have the chance, be sure to try them out!

Tomorrow is the moon-viewing festival, but my son wanted to eat moon-viewing manju today. We went to Tsuruya Hachiman in Kintetsu Department Store. It was past 6 o'clock so I was prepared for many items to be sold out, but luckily there were still some available. The staff were very kind and apologized for the items that were sold out. We always enjoy their Japanese sweets, but the staff's consideration made them even more delicious. Even my son, who doesn't like Japanese sweets, enjoyed the rabbit-shaped manju.

When it comes to Tsuruya Hachiman, "Hyakuraku" is the most popular, isn't it? It was also listed as the most popular in the store... "Hyakuraku" is the product name of Tsuruya Hachiman, but generally it is called "senbei" (rice cracker). There are red bean paste and smooth bean paste. I prefer the red bean paste. "Hyakuraku" has been famous for a long time, it is a high-class senbei... I thought when I was a child, "I can't eat it because it's not sold elsewhere," but when I ate "Hyakuraku" as an adult, I remembered it. Price of one "Hyakuraku" is 194 yen (including tax) as of May 2016. This senbei is designed to be easy to eat, it cracks easily. I don't know why Tsuruya Hachiman's senbei is so delicious, but the skin is delicious too. Normally, the skin of senbei is not tasty, the inside is the delicious part, but Tsuruya Hachiman's "Hyakuraku" has delicious skin. Of course, the inside is delicious too. The red bean paste has elegance. It's sweet but light. It may sound contradictory, but it's true. I just happened to see Tsuruya Hachiman passing by, and I couldn't resist the urge to buy "Hyakuraku." Thank you for the meal.

Now, I have come to Tennoji and visited Abeno Harukas to go to Tsuruya Hachiman. I have purchased various items here in the past, but this time I noticed Satsuma red beans with Tanba red beans. It costs 248 yen including tax. Tanba red beans require more cost compared to sweet potatoes, but they complement each other well. Although they are small, they have a decent sweetness and are delicious. Thank you for the meal! Release October 2015. Nankaihawks1's Gourmet Guide. Nankaihawks1's blog: http://hawks1.exblog.jp/

〜"Hitokuchi Yōkan"〜 There are five flavors available: "Yoru no Ume" is not as rich as Toraya's, "Ake no Haru" has an elegant red color, "Matcha" is average, "Kuro" is not black sugar-flavored but has a normal smooth bean paste, "Kuri" has chestnut grains but also includes white beans, so it doesn't have a strong chestnut flavor. Overall, the sweetness is refreshing and elegant. ✳︎〜"Sanshō Sui"〜 Dried amber sprinkled with Tamba Dainagon azuki beans, with fewer azuki beans compared to other similar products (^-^?✴︎ Tsuruya Hachiman pays attention to the ingredients used and makes the bean paste in their own factory.

This is a souvenir from when my family and daughter went to Osaka. Recently, since I have been posting various reviews on Tabelog, whenever my family goes somewhere, they always bring back something for me. I feel sorry but at the same time, it's only natural for them to help out (I sound so self-important...). This time, they brought back "senbei" and "dorayaki" from this shop!! As expected, my family knows what I like well... Previously, they bought dorayaki from Nagoya JR Takashimaya, but this is the first time for senbei!! Full of expectations... First, the dorayaki... The dough is slightly firm. The filling is also firm. The sweetness is just right!! Delicious. The senbei has a choice of chunky red bean paste or smooth red bean paste. I prefer the chunky red bean paste so I chose that!! Either way, the red bean paste tastes the same... but it's delicious!! Definitely can't go wrong with Depachika's items!!... maybe? But I still prefer Taneya's. Thank you for the meal!!

On June 22, 2012, I chose Tsuruya Hachiman's wagashi as a souvenir for an important customer. When I was a child, I only knew about the famous dorayaki from Tsuruya Hachiman as a souvenir. I didn't know they had other sweets. The image of dorayaki was strong. This time, I chose "Itadaki." I didn't choose it myself, but interviewed the staff on what was their favorite. They all said it was delicious. It may sound silly to ask, but with their polite service, "Itadaki" is popular regardless of age. It has a gentle sweetness and is like a soft rice cracker with dorayaki. It is a refined confectionery. This seemed like a safe choice. We decided to give dorayaki, yokan, and Itadaki as souvenirs to the customers at the exhibition. Thank you for the feast!

Tsuruya Hachiman's traditional Japanese sweets are always brought to me by someone, and I can tell they must be buying them from this store. I always appreciate it. Even though I know I shouldn't be eating sweets all the time at work, I can't help it. The red bean paste from this store is not too sweet, and all their products have that reliable taste of a long-established store, which I like. Maybe cutting this in half would make it look better than just putting it on a plate like this? Regardless of the appearance, it tastes delicious. Today's red bean jelly is different from the common juicy ones, as it is more solid, making it perfect for enjoying with tea in small bites.

The long-established Japanese confectionery shop "Tsuruya Hachiman" also has a store in front of Tennoji Station in Abeno Kintetsu. I think they compete more on quality than quantity. Their specialty is the dorayaki called "Maizuru," with a fluffy dough and delicious red bean filling. It's a delightful gift to receive. The "Satsuma Daigaku" is like a sweet potato treat with red beans for a Japanese twist. It has a unique and delicious flavor that I recommend. While the matcha-flavored yokan is good, I believe the "Yoru no Ume" is the best. They have a wide selection of gift assortments available.

Actually, I visited the store at Kintetsu Uehommachi, but they didn't have it there, so I'm writing here instead. I love Japanese sweets, but I don't like monaka... I've always had a complex about it, but the monaka here completely shattered my fixed idea. I tried the red bean paste and matcha flavors, and the paste melts smoothly with the skin, it's really delicious. It's about 180 yen per piece. I ended up eating three at once!! Ah... I'll go buy more! Thank you for the meal.

I received a gift of after-inserting anko (sweet bean paste) senbei that was popular for a while. I hadn't had it in a long time. Other companies make it too, but this one has a really crispy texture that makes a great sound when you bite into it. The filling is delicious as well. It may stick to the roof of your mouth, but that's just how it is (laughs). Overall, it's a tasty snack that goes well with tea.
