"Melcheese Set (600 yen)"
Representing the sweets at "Petit Merci" is the popular souvenir from Hakodate, "Melcheese." This Melcheese Set includes your choice of Melcheese flavor and one drink. The flavors available for Melcheese are plain, caramel, pumpkin, strawberry, and chocolate. This time, I chose pumpkin. Melcheese is a bite-sized souffle cheesecake with a sponge cake-like outer layer and a moist, cheesecake-like interior. It has a light texture and is so delicious that you might end up eating multiple pieces. The base also uses sponge cake, giving it a cake-like feel while still being a sweet treat. I didn't really taste the pumpkin flavor, so I recommend going for the plain option. For the drink, I chose the uncommon "Almond Latte." It's not made with almond milk but is a latte with almond syrup added, so please take note.
【Summary】
"Petit Merci," a popular Western confectionery store, opened in Hakodate in 1995. The owner chef, Kaoru Endo, trained at the long-established confectionery and bakery "Seiyoken" before opening his own shop. Now, there are four stores in Hakodate and the products are also sold at various retail outlets as souvenirs from Hakodate. Melcheese, in particular, is so popular that it can be considered the representative souvenir from Hakodate. This store is one of the four directly operated stores, conveniently located right after getting off at Hakodate Station. I visited on a holiday around 10:00. The store is quite spacious with counters, tables, and even seating on the second floor. There are charging outlets and USB hubs at the counter, making it suitable for a rest during your travels or while waiting for a train. Additionally, the store has a variety of products including Melcheese, making it a great place to buy souvenirs.
