This is my second time since last year! Every year, when sea urchin season starts, it has become a tradition to visit various restaurants in Shakotan. This year, I visited my favorite sea urchin restaurant! It was quite crowded on Sunday, so reservations were recommended. Next time, I will make a reservation! I ordered a half-and-half sea urchin dish with both regular and purple sea urchin. It came with pickles and miso soup. It cost 5800 yen, but it was worth every bite. It was so delicious that I finished it in no time. I could easily have two servings. It was incredibly sweet and amazing.

I visited for the second year in a row, after making a reservation a month in advance and even changing the reservation details midway. This year, I opted for a special course meal. The uni, which had been carefully prepared, was exquisite. With the course meal, I was able to enjoy various flavors and textures, resetting my palate each time and savoring every bite until the end. I look forward to visiting again next year!

I had a reservation for breakfast at 10:00 today that I made back in April. I ordered the Uni Uni Donburi Buffun, which is a two-color bowl with Buffun (red sea urchin) and Murasaki (white sea urchin), and brought my own soy sauce. The staff recommended starting with the Murasaki (white sea urchin) because the Buffun (red sea urchin) has a strong flavor. It was the best uni donburi I've ever had, as some other places I've been to often run out of Murasaki sea urchin. I'll start saving up for the premium Buffun sea urchin for next year. The price of sea urchin varies each time as it is based on market price.

I chose a restaurant where I could make a reservation to avoid waiting in line for the uni donburi that I really wanted to eat during my first trip to Hokkaido. I was lucky that the restaurant, which is usually closed on the day I wanted to visit, had a group reservation that day so I was able to make a reservation. I decided on my menu in advance through the website and communicated via email. They seem to refuse reservations from those who are on their first day in Hokkaido (probably because they are afraid of cancellations due to uncertain arrival times). I ordered the Ezobafun uni donburi, which is priced at market value. The price was not disclosed at all, even when confirming the order, but it turned out to be a fantastic dish. I used to dislike uni, but it became one of my favorite foods after eating this dish. However, it's a fact that I can only eat it in Shakotan now. The uni was so delicious, with a melting texture, a hint of sea flavor, and perfectly cooked rice. The uni donburi in the photo cost 10,000 yen (as of June 18). The menu included instructions on how to eat the uni donburi, and despite my initial nervousness, the dish was so delicious that I forgot all about it. I don't know when I'll visit Hokkaido again, but I definitely want to come back to this restaurant.

I came to Shikotsu to eat sea urchin, but unfortunately, it was the day of a shrine festival, and most of the shops were closed. After searching, I finally found a shop that was open. Despite not having a reservation at a place that prioritizes reservations, and even though there was a line forming before opening, I was able to get in before opening time. I was aiming for a sea urchin bowl, but I was also interested in the seafood bowl and the set meal, so I ordered the Tokudane seafood bowl and the set meal. The seafood bowl was overflowing with two types of sea urchin, abalone, salmon roe, crab, salmon, scallops, and more. The set meal included grilled salmon and about five side dishes. All of the side dishes were delicious. The price was reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. The restaurant was spacious and comfortable. By the way, it seems like there is a branch of this restaurant in Sapporo as well.

It was absolutely delicious! For some reason, our annual tradition during Obon is a sea urchin bowl tour! Every year, we do our research before visiting. This year, we finally tried out a sea urchin restaurant that we had been curious about. The interior of the restaurant is very spacious and relaxing. The menu is diverse and well thought out. The staff members were friendly, and their phone manners were very pleasant. The location is a bit off the beaten path, so it feels like a hidden gem. It's just a little away from the crowded areas. Coming here was definitely the right choice! My parents were also very comfortable and happy, so we have already decided to come back here next year! The taste was, of course, amazing! We tried the "Uni Uni" dish, which is a mix of Bafun and Murasaki sea urchins, and it was sweet and delicious. It was pure bliss! We will definitely be back next year. ★

We reserved a Uni Uni bowl with half Murasaki Uni and half Bafun Uni. The Murasaki Uni was delicious enough, but I was surprised by the sweetness of the Bafun Uni. I realized that the taste that can be experienced here is unique to the region. It was worth coming all the way to the Shakotan Peninsula for this Uni bowl! There were two simple instructions for eating it. One is that it's better not to mix the rice, and the other is to pour soy sauce on it each time you eat instead of all at once (I agree with both). Personally, I found it a bit difficult to pour the soy sauce from the square dish into the dish for dissolving wasabi. It would have been better if the dish had a spout. Maybe you're supposed to put wasabi directly on the Uni and pour soy sauce directly from the soy sauce dish? I should have read the instructions carefully. It was a satisfying Hokkaido trip with delicious Uni bowl.

I went to Shakotan because I wanted to eat sea urchin rice bowl after a long time. The price of sea urchin has been increasing year by year... I was surprised when I saw the price. Nowadays, it seems that 4,000 to 5,000 yen is normal. I had both Bafun sea urchin and Murasaki sea urchin. The Murasaki sea urchin tasted like the ones often found in sushi restaurants in Sapporo. Of course, the sea urchin here is freshly made, so it was soft, chewy, and delicious. The Bafun sea urchin was exceptional. It can be eaten without soy sauce. It was sweet, without any fishy smell, and very creamy. Thank you for the meal!

At this time of year, there are things that can only be eaten. When I heard that, I became a little interested. I went on a drive to the Shakotan Peninsula, with the seasonal sea urchin as my goal. It seemed like everyone had the same idea, as there was a long line in front of the famous restaurant and the parking lot was packed. As I passed by, I started to think that I might not be able to eat it after all. But then, I saw the word "uni" fluttering in the wind. I quickly made a U-turn (imaginary) and saw that the shop was still open. I cautiously peeked inside and saw a sign saying "sold out." I thought it was over, but upon closer inspection, I saw that they still had "murasaki uni." That was the only option they had left. Since sea urchin was what I came for, it was more than enough. I ordered a "mini uni bowl" and a "uni bowl" without hesitation. It was expensive, but I came here knowing that. It was different from the sea urchin I had eaten before. It had a fragrant aroma and was sweet and creamy because it was marinated in seawater. Ah, I'm glad I came to eat this. This is the true taste of sea urchin. I have become a fan of Shakotan sea urchin. Thank you for the meal.

I entered the restaurant without a reservation and they welcomed me warmly. I ordered a bowl with half from Shakotan and half from another region. That day, it was from Rishiri, and the difference in taste was clear! Both were different and delicious in their own way. I felt sorry for the restaurant as there were many customers with bad manners, and I couldn't help but feel a bit complex after reading a long notice expressing the same sentiment.

I had the Uni Uni Don Set. I found the Murasaki Uni to be more flavorful than the Bafun Uni. The thick-cut abalone sashimi was also very satisfying.

Sea urchin bowl for ¥4500. It had both Murasaki and Bafun sea urchin. The freshness was excellent, but the price was also high! I enjoyed the local flavors.
