Shopping at Senri Hankyu Department Store. Bought breakfast pastries at "LE BIHAN" on the basement floor, then purchased dessert at "Tsuruya Hachiman". Got a Tamba Daiginjo Maizuru for 200 yen (excluding tax), a Halloween-themed one. It's a limited-time item - a fusion of Japanese and Western cultures. The Halloween-themed dorayaki is amazing! I thought only the packaging was Halloween-themed, but was surprised to see the dorayaki itself was too. Well done! Thank you for the meal. Fall 2018.

The clueless sweet tooth husband, who is not familiar with traditional Japanese sweets, thought that "Tsuruya Hachiman" was originally from Kyoto. However, it turns out that this long-established store is actually from Osaka (established in 1863 near the Koryo Bridge). This time, he purchased a "Hyakuraku" monaka at the Senri Hankyu store. Despite his preconceived notion that monaka is too sweet, he decided to give it a try. The monaka, filled with a light and elegant red bean paste made from domestic adzuki beans, pleasantly surprised the sweet tooth husband. The size was just right for a tea snack. "If you like monaka, enjoy it with matcha as a snack! Thank you for the delicious treat."

Famous for their traditional Japanese sweets, this longstanding shop in the Hankyu department store is a go-to for a sweet treat. Feeling tired and in need of a pick-me-up, I decided to visit after a month of hard work. Unsure of what to get, I chose the "Satsuma Daigaku" and the limited edition "Hassaku" jelly. Starting with the "Satsuma Daigaku," it was a sweet potato-based confection with a unique flavor that reminded me of sweet potato pie. The sweetness was balanced out by the red bean paste, giving it a rich and satisfying taste. The only downside was that the soft texture made it a bit sticky to eat, but it was still a delicious treat. The "Hassaku" jelly, on the other hand, had a more subtle sweetness and a delicate flavor. However, it didn't quite reach the same level of perfection as the "Satsuma Daigaku." Overall, both treats were enjoyable, showcasing the skill and expertise of this longstanding shop.

【2015.5 Visit♪】My daughter and I wandered around Senri Hankyu to decide where to get this year's Kashiwamochi and Chimaki. We decided to try this shop, which was ranked number one in the Kashiwamochi ranking at Nikkei Plus One last year. http://www.nikkei.com/news/print-article/?R_FLG=0&bf=0&ng=DGXZZO70499110Y4A420C1000000&uah=DF100520127547 According to the article in the Nikkei newspaper, Kashiwamochi costs 250 yen each. Kashiwamochi wrapped in Kashi leaves is eaten to pray for the healthy growth of boys, as the leaves do not fall until new leaves come out, symbolizing 'the continuity of successors'. It became popular in the samurai society, with people eating Kashiwamochi made with Kashi leaves to pray for the healthy growth of boys. Chimaki costs 500 yen each. Chimaki, eaten on the Boys' Festival, has a history even older than Kashiwamochi. It is said to have been used in the court ceremonies of the Boys' Festival as early as the Heian period. It is known to have originated from the story of Qu Yuan in China, who threw himself into a lake out of sorrow when the Chu kingdom was invaded by Qin. People who mourned his death made Chimaki as an offering, marking the beginning of Chimaki. The Kashiwamochi at Tsuruya Hachiman is made with a unique blend of mochi flour and rice flour, roasted over direct heat to give the dough a glossy, firm texture and a good elasticity. The strained bean paste inside is made from carefully cooked domestic azuki beans, resulting in a light and delicious Kashiwamochi. Chimaki at Tsuruya Hachiman includes "Kuzu Chimaki" made with Yoshino Konjak instead of Josen flour, and "Yokan Chimaki" mixed with strained bean paste. These are available in limited quantities at the store. After dinner, my family of four enjoyed the delicious Kashiwamochi and Chimaki with excitement. The Kashiwamochi was indeed delicious, with a nice fragrance of Kashi leaves. The round shape was very cute! The strained bean paste had a smooth melt-in-your-mouth texture. We bought both regular Chimaki and Yokan Chimaki, and personally, I preferred the Yokan Chimaki! The Chimaki was beautifully translucent, and the fragrance of the bamboo leaf was delightful, making us feel the arrival of May and early summer. It was a delightful meal!

Theme: ● Pictures of food I ate♪ (309884) Category: Sweets At Oiwai, they make the red and white manju from Tsuruya Hachiman using traditional methods, which is why it can become hard over time. However, if you steam it again, it regains its original flavor. The sticky yam when grated, combined with sugar and rice flour to make the dough, is then filled with sweet bean paste and steamed. Adding yam to okonomiyaki makes it delicious, yam is truly a magical ingredient. I can't eat grated yam because it causes a rash, but the smooth and moist sweet bean paste is delicious.

I received a souvenir! When it comes to summer, it's all about warabi mochi, right? This one is cut into perfect squares, with 6 pieces in the pack. You sprinkle it with kinako powder before eating. It's mixed with sweet red bean paste, giving it more of a yokan feel than traditional warabi mochi. But it's chewy and goes down smoothly, so it's easy to eat! Warabi mochi is quite intriguing. I want to try different varieties from various places this year. Any recommendations? Thank you for the souvenir!

This time it's another gift (lol) and I ate it exactly a year ago. It's out of season, so I couldn't review it. Time flies, it's been a year already lol. Now, my favorite Tsuruya Hachiman has kashiwamochi. It's light and goes down smoothly, so you can eat it in one go. Kashiwamochi is still available now until the 5th. And chimaki seems to be available from May 1st to the 5th ♡ It's a seasonal product, so even though my kids have grown up, I still want to eat it and end up buying it.

There is a traditional Japanese sweets shop inside Hankyu near the Sennichu Station, just a short walk away. The shop is small, with a variety of delicious sweets displayed in the showcase. I bought a dorayaki and it was delicious. The filling was rich and the texture of the pancake was fluffy. The size was just right and the cost-performance was good. The service was also polite. I am curious about other sweets they offer. It would make a great souvenir as well.
