After getting off at Keihan Shichijo Station and entering a narrow alley, you will find a quiet little restaurant. I heard they started serving soba lunch, so I decided to visit. It's raining today, so it's the perfect time to have a leisurely lunch. Actually, this place is a hidden gem where you can enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine at a reasonable price until late at night. As I entered, I noticed there were 10 seats at the counter, and it seems they also have private rooms available. Surprisingly, there was a solo female customer. I sat down next to her and placed my order: • Zaru Soba Set with Jowari Soba as the main dish for 1300 yen • Bottle of beer for 500 yen • Kubota "Sekimine" (by the glass) for 700 yen. This Zaru Soba set is really a great deal. It includes Jowari Soba, clam tsukudani, rice from Niigata, assorted pickles, and tempura. The delicious and chewy Jowari Soba is handmade by the owner and served with a carefully prepared broth. The rice is Niigata-grown, and the various pickles are delicious. They even sometimes serve cooked rice with this rice. The tempura is freshly fried, of course!! I ordered a draft beer, but it hadn't arrived yet, so I requested a bottle of beer. Then, something interesting happened... The solo female customer next to me also ordered a bottle of beer. "This rainy weather... makes it perfect for a leisurely lunch, right?" I said casually, and to my surprise, she smiled and replied, "Yes, indeed. Let's enjoy a leisurely drink!" From then on, the owner and his wife joined in the conversation, and it turned into a daytime drinking party. At one point, they only had Niigata sake, which led to a discussion about Kubota sake, and we even got to try a sample. The husband and wife who run this place were very friendly and made it a very enjoyable time. I look forward to visiting again in the evening. Thank you for the wonderful meal.
