Good morning. I am a beauty acupuncturist, Kozue. The other day, I went on a café tour in Kyoto. This time, I visited a shop called Maeda Coffee's Meirinkan. It seems like the facility was originally a school that has been renovated. There were many types of coffee and light meals, but I ordered a drink called Aorani Float. This product is exclusive to Meirinkan, a colorful lemonade made with butterfly pea. It is topped with lemon sorbet and looks very beautiful. Butterfly pea is a plant native to Southeast Asia, also known as "Choumame" in Japanese, and is said to bloom bright blue flowers. Drinks made from this flower have a beautiful blue color, but when citrus juice like lemon is added, the anthocyanins react with the citric acid in citrus fruits, causing the blue color to change to purple. The Aorani Float I ordered already had a purple color due to the lemon sorbet on top of the lemonade, but the purple drink was also very beautiful. The lemon sorbet on top had a refreshing acidity and was delicious. Underneath, there was a purple layer which didn't have much flavor, so I mixed it while enjoying the lemonade layer below. The lemonade had a strong acidity and sweetness. It also contained lemon peel, providing a pleasant texture. It looks very beautiful, so I think it's Instagram-worthy. There are various other menu items available, so you can enjoy not only drinks but also meals. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

For lunch, I was craving for Napolitan, so I stopped by Maeda Coffee in Karasuma. It was packed during lunchtime, so I had to wait in line. Since I was alone, I didn't mind waiting without worrying about the time. Before long, I was seated by the window, overlooking the terrace, waiting for my spaghetti. The powdered cheese was already sprinkled, so I added plenty of Tabasco to my liking and enjoyed it. I love this old-fashioned Napolitan dish (lol). Maybe it's just me, but I think the red spaghetti looks more delicious than the white one (lol). I prefer Napolitan over Carbonara (lol).

After having lunch at Nomura, I enjoyed an affogato at the nearby Maeda Coffee Meirin-ten. The balance of coffee and ice cream was perfect and it was delicious. Meirin-ten has many unique menu items within Maeda Coffee, and it's a favorite spot of mine. I'd love to go there again.

I usually don't go inside even though I pass by often, but during the Gion Festival's pre-festival, I took a break after watching the float procession along Shijo Street starting at 10 a.m. and returning from Shinmachi Street. This is my second time visiting. The place is on Muromachi Street, near the former elementary school site, at Maeda Coffee Meirin-ten. My wife ordered chicken curry (1,280 yen) + salad (200 yen) + omelette (100 yen), and I ordered red miso hayashi rice (1,280 yen) + salad (200 yen) + omelette (100 yen). Well, even just a cafe au lait costs 650 yen, so it's a bit of an early lunch but a good deal. We might stop by again next year.

I have been to other Maeda Coffee shops several times, but the atmosphere inside this one was calm, with a renovated old elementary school vibe where I could relax and take my time. The Affogato exclusive to the Meirin store was delicious. Next time, I would like to try the limited Panini and parfait.

The shop is using the old Meirin Elementary School building as a cafe. When I visited it a long time ago, there were still student desks, giving a strong elementary school vibe. However, it has been renovated with a kitchen in the middle and tables placed around it. I ordered "Omuhayashi, Royal Milk Tea, and Cherry Blossom Jelly," which had a nice atmosphere. Thank you for the meal, and thank you very much.

When it comes to Maeda Coffee, I had always had the image of coffee jelly, so I ordered it without hesitation. As expected, the coffee jelly was very delicious. I want to come back to eat it again. Next time, I want to try the hot coffee. The cakes also looked delicious.

A café located inside the Kyoto Art Center on Karasuma Street. The retro interior is set in a former Meirin Elementary School classroom turned café. The seating is limited, creating a calm atmosphere at night, catering to solo diners and families alike. I ordered the red miso Hayashi rice and the cherry blossom cream soda I had been eyeing. The Hayashi rice, with its enticing name, was warm with a rich red miso flavor that was quickly devoured. The cherry blossom cream soda was just as delicious as it looked, leaving me thoroughly satisfied. Definitely a place I would like to visit again.

A cafe renovated from an elementary school built in the early Showa period. It's nice to see initiatives like this that reuse such historically significant Western architecture. The popular AIMI (AiMi) for 670 yen is short for ice milk tea. It was a bit too sweet for me. The coffee jelly for 650 yen, exclusive to the Meirin branch, had a refreshing bitterness in the jelly ☆ I wanted to take photos inside the shop, but it was full, so I refrained.

I have been using this restaurant for a long time and when I visited after a long time, it had been renovated quite a bit. The interior had become quite cute and Instagrammable. The Neapolitan here is amazing, and I also recommend their breakfast menu! I was surprised to see that the menu had expanded.

I went to Maeda Coffee Meirin-ten specifically for the limited edition Sakura series cream soda. The café is located inside the Kyoto Art Center, which is housed in the former Meirin Elementary School building. The building has a retro classic feel, and since it's an art center, there were artworks displayed on the walls. The cream soda was delicious and refreshing, with a lovely color. However, the male staff member didn't seem very café-like and gave off more of a pub vibe (lol).

Located a 5-minute walk from Shijo Station on the Kyoto Municipal Subway, this restaurant does not have a parking lot. Established in 1869 as the Shimo-Kyosanbanzumi Elementary School, Meirin Elementary School closed in 1993. The building was then repurposed as the Kyoto Arts Center, where this restaurant is situated. The atmosphere is reminiscent of the elementary school I attended in my youth, evoking a sense of nostalgia. Art pieces are tastefully displayed throughout the center, creating a unique ambiance. I sat at a table in the old classroom and ordered the Special Blend Ryunosuke coffee for 550 yen tax included. Although tempted by the side menu, I opted to savor the ambiance with just the coffee. The coffee had a strong emphasis on bitterness and acidity, making it delicious. Memories of my elementary school days resurfaced, allowing me to enjoy a leisurely and pleasant time. I would love to visit again at a relaxed pace.

I intended to have just one drink during the one-hour break, but ended up eating... "Maeda Coffee Meirin Store." I had visited the main store last time, so I chose this one this time. And I have a better impression of it compared to the main store. I will visit here from now on. However, the opening time is a bit late... ☆ Slow-cooked meat spaghetti set. The price with a drink included is excellent. It's a quiet place with lots of strange art for a healing time. The timing when it's not crowded was very comfortable. The meat was also cooked slowly, and it tasted really good. I didn't plan to eat, but I'm glad I did. The Neapolitan also looked delicious. And the panini too. It's a restaurant worth visiting many times. I got a little lost with the map, but there were signs and explanations, so I managed to find it. That was also fun. Thank you for the meal. I will visit again.

Kyoto Arts Center. It is a place that supports young theater and creativity. The building used to be a pre-war elementary school. They use the auditorium and gymnasium as stages. Classrooms are used for workshops or Maeda Coffee. People from Tokyo might not fully understand its greatness, but the word of mouth is incredible.

In Kyoto, there is a nostalgic school cafe called "Maeda Coffee Meirin-ten" in the Kyoto Art Center, located on the former site of the Meirin Elementary School. The space is filled with a Showa retro atmosphere ✨ It feels like you have slipped back in time with the nostalgic scent and ambiance. The creaking corridors add to the nostalgic experience. Maeda Coffee in Kyoto Art Center ☕️ is filled with art, creating a space where you can enjoy the wait time. Despite being in the heart of Kyoto, it's not crowded, so you can relax. I had the omurice with red miso as a hidden flavor, and enjoyed vanilla ice cream with espresso poured over it ✨ The food is delicious in Kyoto style. It's a space to relax and enjoy conversations. After the cafe, try exploring the Kyoto Art Center on the site of a former elementary school with a childlike heart.

Café Hyakumeiten is located inside the Kyoto Arts Center. Established in 1971, it's a classic café with a wide range of trendy menu items. It caters to a diverse clientele. We visited on a weekday before 3 p.m. and it was fully booked. We put our names on the waiting list and were seated in less than 10 minutes. [What we had] Ao Lani Float ¥900 - A limited menu item using butterfly pea flower. We ordered two, along with drinks for our group, and waited about 15 minutes. Not your typical fast food, so be prepared. Initially, it was a bit frustrating as there was absolutely no room to insert the straw for the pretty gradient effect, leaving us puzzled (^_^;) Unable to even stir it, we resorted to eating the ice cream first, gradually creating space. Despite my initial thoughts of it being a hassle, it turned out to be quite delicious (^_^;) Not too sweet, refreshing. Its elegant appearance won me over in the end. The functional and unique wall art is a must-see, and it's conveniently located for a visit during Kyoto sightseeing. It's clear that the café is loved by a variety of customers, including local gentlemen. Thank you for the meal!

I came to eat the 980 yen Neapolitan, but ended up changing my plans and having the Coffee Jelly for 650 yen with a 200 yen drink set Ice Coffee. It was cheaper than the Neapolitan, so I decided to have a sweets and coffee break. The renovated building seemed like a school classroom, part of a complex facility. The Coffee Jelly and Ice Coffee were simple in taste, nothing special but comforting. Due to pressure from various sources, I have minimized my updates since June 2019, with fewer images since January 2020. For visuals, please refer to the corresponding Google Maps. Early August 2022 Sweets Visit [School] Coffee.

This is a cafe located inside the Kyoto Arts Center. The building used to be a elementary school, and the cafe is now in the former classrooms. Walk through the gate, pass through the approach, and enter the building. Before opening the door, it feels like a classroom, but the interior of the cafe is stylish and cool, combining concrete with modern art. I tried the Cream Soda from Cafe Cherry for 800 yen. It has a two-layered design with cherry syrup and soda. The gradient of red syrup and soda is cute. The soda is topped with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, and bright red cherries. There are cherries inside the soda that look like they are floating, which is cute! This sweet and sour refreshing drink helped cool down my body temperature in the heat.
