A traditional Japanese confectionery shop in Osaka called "Surugaya." They specialize in producing and selling yokan, canned mizu yokan, and monaka. Surugaya originally started in the Edo period in present-day Wakayama. Over time, there have been various branches and related businesses in the Kansai region with the name "Surugaya." The limited edition confectionery offered by this shop is the Kuzu Kogane, which comes in a can with a pull tab for easy opening. It is a unique sweet made of mochi and azuki beans, with a chewy and elastic texture. The Mizu Yokan is another canned confectionery available at the shop. It has a smooth and melting texture yokan that is easy to cut with a spoon, making it convenient to enjoy.

The perfect balance between the bitterness of matcha and the sweetness of the tea pairing. The shaved ice was also fluffy and delicious.

I received some yokan. It's smooth and delicious. I have memories from my childhood of receiving sets of pudding and mizu yokan cans as gifts for the summer. They were small and a bit difficult to eat, but the flavor was rich and delicious.

It's simply delicious. Every year during this season, we receive red and white steamed buns from my family's workplace. They come in a sturdy small box, even though they are small, they are carefully wrapped with a decorative cord. The two-colored skin with an old-fashioned brand mark remains relatively soft even the next day. Inside is a sweet bean paste filling. Despite their small size, these steamed buns have a satisfyingly dense texture. I didn't realize that these red and white steamed buns we receive every year are from the same place that sells small canned water yokan and pudding. I've seen it often before, but never noticed the connection until now. (Given as a souvenir from my family's workplace event. Thank you for the treat.)

≪February 1, 2016≫ The tall beautiful lady as usual took something out of her bag and handed it to me! (laughs) It was a long box, and inside it was what looked like yokan (a type of Japanese sweet bean jelly). She always tries to make me eat something, as usual. Well, I never refuse food, so I'm like a trash can (laughs). When I asked where it was from, it said "Surugaya" on it. Surugaya? I thought. When I looked it up, it turned out to be a shop in Osaka's Senba area, and it's even registered on Tabelog (a restaurant review site). Thank you! She said. I took it home with me. When I opened it, I saw lots of chestnuts inside, which got me excited. I cut it into bite-sized pieces. I had imagined yokan to be sticky and sweet, but when I tasted it, it was surprisingly light and not too sweet. Maybe the abundance of big chestnuts influenced the taste? It was delicious. Also, the interesting picture on the box seems to be a design based on a part of an old map of Osaka from 280 years ago. Osaka has been a city for 280 years, huh? (laughs) Thank you for the meal. I'll eat anything, so please give me more next time (laughs).
