I occasionally come to Jozankei for work and was interested in this restaurant for a while. The appearance of the restaurant is retro Showa style and matches the hot spring town atmosphere perfectly. When I entered the restaurant, a friendly couple welcomed me. I ordered soy sauce ramen and half curry set for 1000 yen. The food arrived in about 5 minutes. The soup was a clear soy sauce color with little oil, light and old-fashioned soy sauce ramen with a chicken broth base. The slightly chewy char siu with little fat was good, and the noodles were also good being curly noodles from Nishiyama Seimen. The curry roux was firm and quite flavorful. The crunchy onions that were still present were a nice touch. There was nothing particularly outstanding, but I would like to visit this restaurant again when I come to Jozankei for work. Thank you for the meal.

Nostalgic soy sauce ramen from the past! This old-fashioned ramen shop is located in the onsen town of Jozankei. When I visited, it was close to closing time, so they only offered ramen and gyoza. I ordered both. The ramen reminded me of a famous scene from the drama "Kita no Kuni Kara," with simple soy sauce broth topped with naruto, menma, and chashu. The flavor was very simple, so adding a bit of pepper gave it a more mature taste. It was delicious and easy on the stomach after drinking alcohol.

I visited a certain restaurant for lunch. The tables and counter seats had dishes left from previous customers, indicating that many people had been coming in. After the staff cleaned up the counter seats and disinfected them, I was seated. I ordered the Ramen Half Curry for 950 yen, choosing the soy sauce flavor for the ramen. The ramen arrived promptly, with a nostalgic old-fashioned taste that was light and comforting. The chashu was lean and flavorful, and the menma had a soft texture. The noodles were thin, slightly curly, and cooked to a soft texture. The curry rice, with pork belly and onions, had a rich and delicious sauce that I enjoyed. It seems like the restaurant is run by a couple, and I hope they continue for a long time.

I had spicy miso ramen and soy sauce ramen. The soy sauce ramen was traditional and simple, but delicious with a strong flavor. The spicy miso ramen was sweet and spicy, and tasted great. It was a little spicy.

I went to Toyohiragawa Onsen, but it was very crowded, so I had lunch at a restaurant in Jozankei Onsen. There are many Asian foreigners in Jozankei. I decided to have lunch at this local-feeling restaurant. There were various menu items, but the fried rice was delicious. I recommend it.

I visited this restaurant when I went to a day trip hot spring. I had the char siu ramen, spicy miso ramen, and gyoza. The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice, and the owner couple was very kind. The gyoza was especially delicious.

I found a great ramen shop in the hot spring town of Jozankei, nestled in the snow. The miso ramen with curly thick noodles is delicious.

Feeling hungry, I wandered around Jozankei Onsen town. There were a few ramen shops and izakayas but they weren't open yet since it was around 6 pm. I stumbled upon this place, Karaku-san! The flag of shaved ice was swaying in the breeze - it really feels like summer. It's an old-fashioned ramen shop, like stepping back in time. It feels like the Showa era. It seems to be run by a couple, a lovely gentleman and lady welcomed me with cheerful voices. The shop is small with a few tables and a counter. I ordered the miso ramen and half-fried rice set for 1000 yen. Ah, the nostalgic taste of old-fashioned ramen. It was delicious. The fried rice was a bit oily and moist, but that's what makes it tasty. Ah, it was delicious. The sound of shaving ice for the shaved ice order was refreshing. Thank you for the meal!

It's been 2 and a half years since my last trip to Hokkaido. Due to financial difficulties last year, I couldn't go, so this time I really want to enjoy myself! On the second day, I visited Jozankei. Jozankei is a hot spring resort known as the "backyard of Sapporo," just an hour by bus from Sapporo. It has a different atmosphere from the hustle and bustle of Sapporo, and the scenery from the rapid airport train is also different from what you see in Honshu. Unfortunately, a typhoon was approaching, and there was already heavy rain and strong winds in Sapporo. I was worried if the bus would still run, as the wind was so strong. However, the bus continued. But near Jozankei, the rain and wind were even stronger than in Sapporo, and as soon as I got off the bus, my umbrella was instantly destroyed by the wind, becoming almost useless. I walked a little and arrived at Kakura, where I planned to have lunch. This restaurant is mainly a ramen shop, but they also have curry and other rice bowl dishes. There are several ramen shops near Jozankei, but this one has a relatively historic atmosphere. Last time, I had miso ramen here, but what should I have this time? I thought about trying the curry, but then I saw they had spicy miso ramen on the menu! I found it and ordered it within 2 seconds. It arrived in about 10 minutes! This spicy miso ramen had a large amount of chili oil floating on the soup. It seems that they first put regular miso in a bowl, then add the soup, and finally pour in a lot of chili oil. This is different from the "spicy miso ramen" commonly found in Sapporo, which uses a special spicy miso paste. I'm not sure which one is more delicious, but it's definitely spicy! The soup is very spicy. The noodles are the authentic Sapporo ramen noodles. Slightly curly and thick, with a yellowish color, they have a good flavor and texture. The portion of noodles was quite generous, and the texture was just right. The toppings included green onions, bamboo shoots, fish cakes, and two slices of chashu. Personally, I would have been happier if there were bean sprouts, but there were none. There were quite a few bamboo shoots. The chashu was thin and not very delicious, with a nostalgic taste of old-fashioned ramen shop chashu. Looking back, the soup was quite plentiful! Yet, the soup was thin, so if they had reduced the amount of soup a bit, the soup would have been just right in terms of flavor. The miso itself is rich and delicious, like a rich blended miso. If it had been a bit thicker, it would have been even more delicious! If the regular miso ramen is 700 yen, then it is a reasonable price for a tourist destination. The owners, a husband and wife, were very warm and friendly, chatting with the relaxed tourists enjoying the hot springs, creating a pleasant atmosphere in the restaurant.

Located just about an hour's drive from the city, Jozankei Onsen in Sapporo is a hidden gem. There's something charming about ramen shops in hot spring areas, right? "Ramen Karaku" is a ramen shop that operates from 11 am until around 11 pm. It is located right next to the Hotel Taikanryu Suiyantei. After having an early dinner, I found myself feeling a bit hungry before bed. So, I decided to check out the ramen shop I saw outside the hotel earlier. If they're still open, I thought I could share a bowl of ramen. On a warm spring night, I headed to the shop in my yukata and borrowed straw sandals. As I slid open the cloudy glass door, I saw young girls who seemed to work at nearby hotels or had just graduated from school, enjoying a drink and a meal after work. They seemed like regulars, saying things like "I'm so tired today!" and "Can I share a bowl of ramen and half a fried rice with you?". It had a nice atmosphere, just the kind of ramen shop I like. I asked if it was okay to share a bowl of ramen, and they kindly agreed. I took a seat at the counter. Looking at the menu, I decided on soy sauce ramen. I also ordered a bottle of beer, but just a small amount as I tend to get tipsy quickly. The soy sauce ramen came with bamboo shoots, fish cake, 2 slices of chashu pork, and green onions. The soup was clear and soy sauce-based, with a layer of oil on top that made it quite hot. The saltiness was just right, making it a perfect finish after a drink. The noodles were yellowish curly noodles cooked just right, slightly firm and delicious. I was expecting an old-fashioned light and simple ramen, but it turned out to be pleasantly rich and tasty. I'll try the salt ramen next time.

Located in the Jozankei Onsen Street, this ramen restaurant, "Jozankei Daiichi Houkeiryu Suisantei," is right in front of the Jozankei Daiichi Houkeiryu Suisantei, so I visited it for dinner when staying there. The situation was a ramen to finish off the night after drinking. The shoyu ramen had a good punch and a sweetness from the vegetable broth, a well-balanced ramen that you can eat comfortably, reminiscent of old-fashioned Sapporo ramen. The cleanliness of the restaurant, despite its age, was also a high point. Recommended if you want to have ramen in Jozankei Onsen! Sapporo City, Minami-ku. As you move away from the center of the Jozankei Onsen town, there is a lone house on a slope. It has a nice atmosphere at night. It seems like a shop that has been around for many years, welcoming tipsy customers strolling through the hot spring town. Since the hotel I stayed at did not have a ramen corner like many hot spring hotels, I changed into snow boots and went outside. I entered the shop sober. Instead, I had eaten a lot at the Jozankei Hotel where I stayed for dinner buffet earlier. As time passed, I felt like having a late-night snack. The inside of the shop had a nostalgic atmosphere, as if I had been coming here since I was a child. There was no sense of discomfort at all. I ordered the "shoyu ramen (700 yen)". It had a nostalgic look. The soup was clear and refreshing. It seemed like chicken soup. The noodles were soft and chewy. They could have been a bit firmer. It was a nostalgic ramen with no unpleasant aftertaste. There were no other customers when I arrived, but when I was about to leave, two women in yukatas came in after finishing their bath. Oh, this is a hot spring area, I realized (laughs).

Welcome! Located in the hot spring town of Jozankei in Minami Ward, this diner has been telling stories of its history for many years. The cozy atmosphere is interrupted by a couple watching TV, but Tom finds it charming. He decides to sit at the counter and browse the menu. He orders the curry cutlet, which is served quickly and looks delicious. The curry is sweet and rich in vegetable flavor, with a hint of spice. The cutlet is crispy and flavorful, with a thick, juicy meat. The consomme soup is salty and satisfying. The diner gradually fills up with local regulars, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Thank you for the delicious meal!

◼️ Heading towards Nakayama Pass on Sapporo's main artery, Route 230 (commonly known as Ishiyama Street), it takes about 40 minutes by car from the city center to reach this restaurant located in the hot spring town of Jozankei in Sapporo's backyard. *End of January 2014* Upon entering the restaurant, there was only one aunt in the kitchen. The interior was of traditional design, with the menu displayed in English, Chinese, and Korean. ▷ We ordered the "Spicy Miso Ramen" and "Mini Curry" set, which was a good deal. The wait time was about 13 minutes. Trying the soup first... Slurp... Hmm, it has a nice spiciness to it. The spicy miso soup had a tangy flavor that was reminiscent of tantanmen. The noodles were the familiar medium-thick curly noodles, suitable for older customers. The other ingredients were nothing special, with an overall ordinary taste. On the other hand, the Mini Curry had a rich and thick flavor, giving off a nostalgic Showa era vibe. Now, as time is passing by... maybe I should soak my feet in the foot bath before heading back. If I end up soaking in the hot spring, it might be a hassle to leave... Sometimes, I just want to relax in Jozankei Onsen rather than just doing a day trip... ◉ You were the last ramen shop in Minami-ku... "Ramen Karaku" ◼️ With Sapporo being an area where aging population is most advanced, the traditional diner-style restaurants were quite challenging opponents. Looking back, "Hinata" in Sumikawa to the north and "Sanran Tenjotenryugadokuson" in Fujino to the south were particularly high-level. The next target is... ▼ Converting the ramen industry in Toyohira-ku, the top ramen-producing area in Sapporo. It's going to be exciting. Ramen shops in Toyohira-ku, we look forward to your cooperation. 【SPECIAL THANKS】"46 ramen shops in Minami-ku, Sapporo" (as of February 2014) ※ Excluding ramen from restaurants, Chinese restaurants, cafes, chain stores, sushi restaurants, izakayas, yakiniku restaurants, etc. 〜 Afterword 〜 I feel the significance of this day (conquering Minami-ku) more precious than anything because my heart is very calm now... There is nothing special, just eating a little more ramen than others, my stomach feels very tight (the belt has become tight). I'm still not visiting many restaurants, but finally, I can take a step forward from here. The future begins with the review being uploaded to Tabelog. Walking/eating together, searching for delicious restaurants together, laughing together, swearing together (that we won't come back), feeling together, choosing together (even though there are often duplicate dishes), crying together (bitterly), carrying together (subcutaneous fat), embracing together (the reputation...), wandering together (Tabelog MAP is convenient), building together (our palate has become refined), wishing together (if bad restaurants continue, next time for sure!), Reviewing such days while singing ♪

This is a place in Minami-ku, specifically in the Jozankei Onsen area. You can check the exact location on the map on the restaurant review website. I have visited this restaurant a few times after drinking at Jozankei Onsen, but this time was my first visit during the day while sober. I parked my car in the small parking lot next to the restaurant and went inside. I sat at the counter and ordered the "shio ramen" as usual. While waiting for my order, I noticed that many customers also ordered the "shio ramen." The clear soup was tasty, with a chicken broth base that was easy to drink but a bit salty. The noodles were from Nishiyama Seimen, yellow, medium-thick curly noodles that were slightly thinner and less curly than those used in Sapporo ramen shops. They were cooked al dente, which I liked. The toppings were simple: traditional chashu, menma, and plenty of green onions. The prices were a bit high, possibly due to the touristy location. Overall, this ramen shop has been loved for over half a century in Jozankei Onsen, and I hope it continues to thrive in this area for many more years to come.
