Hokkaido Wandering Journey 122 New Hidaka Town The shop was supposed to open at 8:30 am, but it was closed again! Maybe it's another temporary closure. An elderly lady came out from the neighboring house and asked, "Do you want soft serve ice cream? I'll prepare it now, but it will take some time, is that okay?" I said it's fine and waited patiently. I also wanted to buy the Summer Sale quick-boiled kelp, but it was sold out. Kelp Soft Serve Ice Cream ¥350. The kind lady offered to take a photo since I had it. The back of the shop faces the sea, so I enjoyed it there. The combination of soft serve ice cream and kelp is really good. It has a nice aroma of Hidaka kelp. The crispy baked kelp served as a spoon was delicious. Now, I will continue heading west to Sarabureddo Town, Shimukappu Town, to admire the statue of Haiseiko.

When you visit Hidakagawa, you must try the kombu soft serve. I have been there several times and it never disappoints. It may be a bit hard to notice along the way, so you might pass by without realizing, but I like that it's kind of hidden. Eating the kombu soft serve by the sea at the back of the shop provides a soothing break from busy daily life. The crispy kombu topping is especially delicious. I highly recommend it to everyone. I will definitely be back again.

I stopped by on my way to Cape Kamui. This route doesn't have many places to take a break for food and drink, so having a rest stop here is like an oasis. I tried the popular kelp soft serve, but personally, I found it to be mediocre (laughs). Kelp and soft serve just don't go well together. However, the Hokkaido kelp that I bought together was amazing. I made a hot pot with it and it brought out a strong and rich umami flavor. I think this shop's main business is probably selling kelp wholesale or retail, and the soft serve is just a conversation piece. As a conversation piece, it's definitely worth it.

I stopped by on the way to Cape Erimo. I often stop by when heading towards Urakawa. The soft serve ice cream has powdered kelp in it, giving it a subtle kelp flavor. And the roasted kelp stuck in the soft serve is crispy and delicious. If you're in the area, be sure to try it out!

When I went to Urakawa, I stopped by Mitsui Konbu because I wanted something sweet. It's located along the national highway and you can park in front of the shop. I bought the "Konbu Soft Serve" for 300 yen. Konbu is a local specialty around here, so I was surprised to see it in soft serve form. But it was delicious! The combination of soft serve and konbu worked really well. I also liked how the konbu was sticking out of the soft serve. Delicious!

I went on a drive to Hidaka and found out about a konbu (kelp) soft serve ice cream, so I went to try it. The ice cream was slightly green with a hint of konbu flavor. The konbu pieces on top were crispy and fragrant, complementing the ice cream well. The shop was a bit small and besides soft serve, they also had various konbu products on display. The staff suggested we could enjoy our ice cream in the back of the shop, where we were amazed by the breathtaking view! The weather was great and the sea looked beautiful!

I wanted to try the kombu soft serve ice cream, so I came here. The shop is small but they have various kombu products displayed. I bought the kombu dressing and tororo kombu made by this shop. The staff recommended them as delicious, so I'm looking forward to trying them. As for the kombu soft serve ice cream, it had a nice kombu flavor and was easy to eat. It came with a kombu stick, and biting into it while licking the ice cream provided a nice change in taste. Some reviews mentioned that it's easier to eat compared to kombu soft serve ice cream from other places. It was a cold day when I ate it, so I shivered a bit, but I thought it would be better to eat it in a warmer season. Thank you for the meal.

On the way from Kimono to Chitose, there is the Sanseki area. This area is known for producing Hidaka kelp. That's probably why you should stop by this shop to try their "Kelp Soft Serve Ice Cream." In addition to soft serve ice cream, this shop also sells various kelp-related products. Kelp dressing? I wonder what it tastes like, but of course, I ordered the kelp soft serve ice cream I came for. The soft serve ice cream that arrived must have kelp mixed in, as it has a slight kelp color. And instead of a spoon, there is roasted kelp stuck in it. It's a nice accent, isn't it? Let's sit in the resting area behind the shop. Oh, it's not too sweet. I'm actually not good with sweet things, but I can handle this. The kelp flavor is also strong. The roasted kelp that was stuck in it was also delicious. Thank you for the meal.

There is no article. When you come to a drive in Hidaka, you'll want to stop by the soft serve ice cream shop "Mitsuishi Konbu". The name is just as it is. The products sold at Mitsuishi Michi no Eki and Kurazou are made here! The main attraction this time is the Konbu Soft Serve Ice Cream with a piece of konbu sticking out, priced at 300 yen. It may look a bit strange, but the flavor of the konbu matches perfectly and it was surprisingly delicious! The konbu sticking out is crispy and tasty! However, the best part of this place is the bench in the back. On a sunny day, you can enjoy such a magnificent view! You can relax while eating the konbu soft serve ice cream. Feel the sea breeze and enjoy the view, but be careful, the soft serve melts quickly! Make sure to eat it first before enjoying the scenery! I always pass by this place, as I heard it's only open on weekdays. But today, even though it's Sunday, they had a sign out! Lucky me! So I made a U-turn and stopped by. Inside, there were various types of kelp snacks like roasted kelp, salted kelp, and snack kelp lined up. The prices ranged from 100 to 300 yen, very reasonable. I recommend trying some kelp snacks as a treat (low in calories!). Now, about the "Kelp Soft Serve" I had at the "Kombu-kan" in Hakodate, it had a strong kelp flavor that was hard to eat (my child gave up after one bite). So, I was a bit worried this time too, but I cautiously tried it and thought, "Huh? It's delicious?!" It has a mysterious taste. It's green with small bumps, probably kelp. But it's not fishy at all, just the umami of kelp, making it a unique and tasty soft serve. The soft serve goes really well with the crispy and salty "roasted kelp" that comes with it. I think topping the soft serve with all the roasted kelp would be perfect! It's 300 yen, but it's a great conversation starter for your trip to Hokkaido. This unusual "Kelp Soft Serve" is delicious, so if you see a sign out, definitely give it a try.

I had been curious about this place for a while after seeing it featured in a magazine or something, but I heard that they were only open on weekdays so I never had the chance to go. I happened to have the afternoon off on a weekday and had some business in the Sanishi area, so I decided to stop by. I was a bit nervous because it's not ice cream season yet, so they might not be selling it... When I walked into the store, I could smell kelp. There were a few kelp products displayed on the shelves. When I asked about the soft serve, they said, "Yes, we have it." I was so excited! The soft serve they gave me was slightly green in color, with kelp chips stuck in it. The texture was not smooth like regular soft serve, it was more like sorbet... It seemed like it wouldn't melt easily, perfect for eating in the summer. It had a slight salty taste from the kelp, and the sweetness was refreshing. The person working there mentioned that they are busy with production, so they are closed on weekends, but they might open on weekends as it gets warmer... The kelp products on display seemed like they would make great gifts. I plan to come back in the summer to try it again. Thank you for the meal!

Mitsuishi Kombu Co., Ltd. is a company located at the entrance of the former Misaka Town, specializing in selling kelp products. The stylish interior of the store displays a variety of kelp products. Their soft serve ice cream is delicious! It may sound strange to have kelp in soft serve, but kelp is a concentrated umami ingredient, so it's definitely not bad! You can enjoy it for 300 yen. The soft serve comes with a piece of kelp as a spoon, but I always end up eating it first and then diving into the ice cream (laughs). You can enjoy it when the flag is out, but they put it away when they wash the machine. The friendly landlady mentioned that they are too busy to visit other stores or events, so I highly recommend stopping by and trying it. They mainly offer takeout service.

Hidaka Town, Hokkaido. Located southeast of Tomakomai along National Route 235, "Kikonbu In Non Mitsuishi Konbu" is a shop that also sells konbu soft serve ice cream. They offer "Oyatsu Konbu," which starts off hard and tasteless but gradually softens and becomes more flavorful as you chew. I tried it in late August 2022. It's a good snack to keep on hand. I also got it from "Zenrinan," a veggie shop in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture. "Mitsuishi Konbu" has been run by the owner's wife and daughter since the previous owner passed away, offering unique items like recipe books, konbu dressing, and konbu soft serve ice cream.
