Taizo, which had been in operation for a long time in Kobe, moved to a new location three years ago. The location of the new shop is so bad that if you don't know about it, you won't find it or go in (laughs). I ordered the gyoza with thin skin and miso sauce, which is popular in Kobe. You have to order at least two portions, and they wrap it after you order, so be prepared to wait double the time compared to regular gyoza. I ordered two portions of gyoza and a bottle of beer! The miso sauce here is a bit on the sweet side, which may divide preferences. Personally, I preferred the vinegar soy sauce. The taste is delicious and the texture is to my liking. The portions are on the smaller side, so one person could probably eat three to four portions. The shop is small, but the conversation and distance with the staff felt good.

I was surprised to see many foreign customers at this restaurant. It's a counter-only place, but foreigners were coming in one after another. I was lucky to get a seat, but I think it's better to make a reservation for a group. The shiso dumplings were my favorite. In Kyoto, they also have a rare miso sauce option.

During my Kyoto expedition, I revisited Gyozatai-san in Shijo Kawaramachi. Tai-san welcomed me with a smile. I ordered the Kujyo Negi Gyoza that I missed out on last time. While waiting for them to cook, I enjoyed some steamed chicken as a snack with beer. The Kujyo Negi Gyoza had an abundance of Kujyo green onions on top. Mixing the egg yolk and miso sauce enhanced the sweetness of the onions and the deliciousness of the gyoza. It was amazing. Adding a little chili oil as a topping provided a nice spicy accent. They didn't have the coriander gyoza that day, so I aim to try it next time for a complete experience. #TokyoGyozaCommunication #GyozaIsCompleteFood #KujyoNegi #Gyoza #GyozaClub #KyotoGyoza

I visited "Taisan" in Shijo Kawaramachi, Kyoto, recommended for their thin-skinned dumplings for the first time. This place is a new restaurant born from "Furuya," a popular miso sauce dumpling shop in Kobe that relocated to Kyoto. The owner, Mr. Furuya Taisan, wraps and bakes the dumplings after receiving the order. The dumplings with crispy thin skin are just like those from Kobe Furuya. It is recommended to eat them with Sichuan pepper sprinkled on the miso sauce instead of chili oil. The shiso dumplings come to life with a refreshing flavor when quickly drizzled with lemon. Although it's a small shop with about 10 seats, it was constantly visited by regular customers and foreign tourists. Since it's easy to drop by alone, I might end up stopping by every time I'm on a business trip. #TokyoGyozaNews #GyozaClub #Gyoza #Furuya #KobeMisoDumplings #GyozaIsAFullMeal

Opened at 4:00 PM, walked in at 4:00 PM. Safe to enter with 3 people! However, it's a small restaurant with about 10 counter seats, so it seems better to make a reservation. The rules are: 1) Order at least 1 or 2 servings of dumplings per person (1 serving is 8 pieces) 2) Order all the dumplings at once (no additional orders). We were planning to eat a lot, so we ordered 2 normal, 1 coriander, 1 lemon, and 1 green onion (originally 16 pieces)! The green onion one is seriously delicious! I feel like I could eat it endlessly... it's seriously tasty. Seriously, I will definitely come back!

Despite arriving 30 minutes earlier than the reserved time, we were kindly allowed to enter. It was our first visit, so we asked about the ordering process and ordered shiso gyoza and regular gyoza. The gyoza filling was delicious and went perfectly with beer. The miso dipping sauce was tasty. The cucumber was also delicious.

I went to Kyoto after work on this day. For dinner, I visited "Gyoza no Taisan"♪ The restaurant was originally established in Kobe Motomachi in 1988, and it seems to have relocated to Kyoto in June 2020! It used to be a popular restaurant in Kobe, and I had bookmarked it to visit, but it had moved without me realizing, and I found out about it on someone's Instagram. Just to be safe, I made a reservation by phone in advance. The restaurant is about a 2-minute walk from Hankyu Kyoto Line Kyoto Kawaramachi Station, and I arrived a little before 7 p.m. The restaurant was located on the 2nd floor of Shinobu Kaikan. The interior of the restaurant was quite small, with only 8 seats at the L-shaped counter. It was fully occupied, including me. The restaurant has some rules: ・Gyoza starts from 2 servings per person! ・Additional orders are allowed only once per group! ・No additional orders on weekends! ・One drink per person! Here's what I ordered: ⚫︎ Draft beer (medium) ⚫︎ Gyoza (8 pieces) x 2 servings ⚫︎ Century egg ⚫︎ Steamed chicken It was mentioned at the beginning of the menu that after ordering, it would take "three times longer than what the customer imagines" to wrap and bake the gyoza (laughs). I started by gulping down the draft beer and leisurely waiting! I thought the century egg and steamed chicken would be served quickly, but it took about 20 minutes... The pickled cucumbers were served right away, though. Maybe that was the right choice... And finally, the long-awaited gyoza arrived after about 30 minutes! 16 small gyoza, 8 pieces per serving for one person! They were served on a plate altogether. The ingredients used were fresh vegetables from the Kobe area, domestically produced garlic and ginger, and minced Kagoshima black pork. Let's enjoy the freshly wrapped and baked gyoza! There were two types of sauce: the original miso sauce with a hint of Sansho pepper, and another one with spicy oil in the gyoza sauce. The one-bite gyoza with the thin skin dipped in the miso sauce was amazing! The crispy and fragrant seared side, and the smooth side. The gyoza was generously filled with ingredients. Some gyoza may break, but that's part of the charm. I thought I wouldn't finish 16 pieces, but I ended up eating them all in one go! I had a refill of beer in between, and that was it for the day! If the timing is right, you might be able to dine in without a reservation. Thank you for the meal!

A gyoza specialty restaurant located on the second floor of a building in a back alley a 2-3 minute walk from Kawaramachi Station in Kyoto. They wrap and cook the gyoza from scratch after you order, so it may take some time before you can eat, but it's nice to wait while enjoying pickled eggs, cucumbers, and alcohol. The pan-fried gyoza is eaten with miso sauce, while the shiso gyoza is eaten as is. Every gyoza is truly delicious, so if you have time and room in your stomach, I recommend trying them all.

A hidden gem dumpling bar! A cozy little shop run by the owner himself. Dumplings can be ordered starting from 2 portions! I tried the coriander dumplings and shiso dumplings. The dumplings were carefully wrapped and fried after ordering, they were crispy and incredibly delicious. They were already seasoned, so they tasted amazing even without any additional sauce. Since they were small-sized, you can eat them quickly. When I mentioned that I love coriander, the owner kindly served a coriander salad as a complimentary dish, making me want to come back again! Overall, it's a fantastic restaurant, including the service.

"Formerly located in Motomachi, Kobe for 23 years, the gyoza specialty shop called 'Gyoza no Taisan' has moved to Kyoto! A must-visit for those who love sake and gyoza. I found this small shop, about 4 tatami mats in size, through Tabelog, and the chef here is incredibly funny, had us laughing non-stop! The gyoza and homemade miso sauce are incredibly delicious, truly the best! Everything is just top-notch! I found the best restaurant to visit in Kyoto! Here's what we had on this day: - Draft beer (Kirin Ichiban Shibori) ¥660 - Cucumber (small) ¥440 We kept munching until the gyoza was ready. - Grilled gyoza (8 pieces) ¥495, starts from 1-2 portions per person. Since 2 people required a minimum of 4 portions, we ordered 4 portions all at once! (Additional orders start from 2 portions) Each gyoza is wrapped and grilled after the order is taken, boasting thin skin and a single bite size. Served on two plates, one with homemade miso sauce sprinkled with sansho pepper, and the other with the shop's homemade sauce and chili oil added. Seriously, this is incredibly delicious!!! Perfect with beer! Made with fresh vegetables, domestic garlic and ginger, Kagoshima black pork mince, and freshly wrapped thin skin. Perfectly grilled, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I easily finished 16 pieces in no time. The best!!! - Kujo Negi Gyoza (16 pieces) ¥1485 Loaded with leeks, egg yolk, and ponzu sauce, their original creation. Delicious just by looking at it! The crunchy texture of the leeks is tasty, and the combination of miso sauce, egg yolk, and ponzu sauce is just explosive! Incredibly delicious and the best! In the end, we had 24 gyoza, and we could still eat more! I want to eat them again! Definitely want to eat them again! I want to go to Kyoto right now!"

I made a reservation after being turned away several times due to the restaurant being full, and finally got to experience the deliciousness of the dumplings. They make the filling after you order, which was a new experience for me. The dumplings are hand-wrapped in Kyoto by members of the dumpling club, then grilled. The restaurant only has about 7 seats, and it takes some time for the dumplings to be ready, so we enjoyed some beer and cucumber pickles while waiting. The dumplings were served right before they were fully cooked, and the aroma was amazing. We tried the Kujo Negi dumplings as well. They don't pre-make anything, using fresh vegetables and a filling that's moist and flavorful. The dumpling skin absorbs the moisture and crisps up nicely when cooked at high temperature. The flavor is rich and the texture is perfect, with a nice crunch. The Kujo Negi dumplings, topped with steamed green onions, were a unique and tasty dish. We all loved the dumplings and they paired well with our drinks. I would love to go back again!

About 3 years ago, the thin-skinned dumpling specialist Tai-san relocated from Kobe to Kawaramachi in Kyoto. Not recommended for those in a hurry as the dumplings are wrapped after ordering, so it takes time. On this day, it took about 40 minutes from entering the restaurant to the dumplings being served. The wait is worth it for the delicious dumplings. Made with fresh vegetables from the Kobe area, domestic garlic and ginger, and Kagoshima black pork mince starting from 2 servings. The miso sauce and chili oil are also homemade. We started with cucumber pickles and bottled beer while waiting for the dumplings to be cooked. The pickles were just right and tasty! The thin-skinned dumplings come in grilled, with shiso, and Kyoto leek variations. The first grilled dumplings had a punch of garlic and ginger that was delicious. The last Kyoto leek dumplings were topped with a generous amount of Kyoto leeks, egg yolk, and homemade ponzu sauce. The ponzu sauce, with its delicious sweetness and bitterness, paired well with the leeks and made the alcohol go down smoothly. Despite the wait, it was worth it for these delicious dumplings that I wanted to eat even if I had to wait!

Near Kyoto Kawaramachi Station is "Gyoza Taisan," a popular restaurant that moved from Kobe to Kyoto. They offer thin-skinned pan-fried dumplings: 8 pieces for 495 yen, shiso dumplings: 8 pieces for 605 yen, and kujo negi dumplings: 16 pieces for 1485 yen. The dumplings, wrapped after ordering, are undeniably delicious. The restaurant has a tight counter seating for 9 people, so it's advisable to take personal responsibility for COVID-19 precautions.

Located on the second floor of a building in Kawaramachi, Kyoto, is a small gyoza specialty shop called "Gyoza Taisan." The shop has only a counter and I ordered ■Yaki Gyoza■ and Kujyo Negi Gyoza. They start wrapping the gyoza after you place your order, showing their dedication. The gyoza with thin skin is quite delicious. There are two types of sauces, miso and soy sauce. The Kujyo Negi Gyoza is topped generously with Kujyo Negi, offering a satisfying eating experience.

I have been a regular customer here since my days in Kobe. Personally, the gyoza here is my number one favorite♡ I still have it occasionally in Kyoto. Despite being small, you can taste the vegetables in the filling. The thickness of the skin, the crispy texture, the miso sauce - everything is just to my liking. I will definitely visit again(^^)

I visited around the opening time on the weekend. The cozy restaurant with about 7 seats was full in about 30 minutes. Orders are taken and each dumpling is wrapped one by one. You can leisurely wait. It's recommended to order 2 servings of dumplings per person. They are small-sized and crispy. You can only add one additional order of dumplings, so order carefully. They offer various types of dumplings such as pan-fried, leek, shiso, and coriander. The pan-fried dumplings are served with miso sauce, and the balance of ginger and garlic is amazing. I will definitely come back to enjoy the chef's dumplings. Thank you for the delicious meal.

I went to "Gyoza Taisan" to have some gyoza. I was surprised to find out that the owner used to work at the famous "Furuya" in Kobe and has now opened a restaurant in Kyoto! Gyoza orders start from 2 servings per person. -☆Grilled gyoza (8 pieces) ¥480 -☆Shiso gyoza (8 pieces) ¥550 -★Highball ¥650×3 The miso sauce with sansho pepper was a delightful surprise. I didn't expect to enjoy miso-flavored gyoza in Kyoto! The gyoza are all-you-can-eat, but you can only order additional servings once. Personally, I love the gyoza from "Furuya" and I was very happy to rediscover them here. I had a great time enjoying the gyoza. Thank you for the meal.

Kobe-style gyoza, enjoyed with miso sauce, including coriander gyoza and negi (green onion) gyoza. "Koya," a gyoza specialty shop loved in Kobe's Motomachi for 23 years as a popular spot for a drink after work or a late-night snack, has relocated to the "Shinobu Kaikan" in the hidden temple area of Kyoto's Kawaramachi and restarted under a new name. A gyoza shop that I used to love and had suddenly closed down has made a comeback (>ω<). I had been wanting to go for a while, but due to COVID, I couldn't find the right timing. Finally made it there (;_;). With only 8 seats and a small capacity, they prepare all orders freshly wrapped and cooked. Starting with a crispy texture and finishing with the lingering taste of ginger mixed into the fresh filling, the "Yaki Gyoza" (8 pieces for 440 yen) can be enjoyed with Kobe-style miso sauce. Enjoy munching away!

Visited around 17:20 on April 2nd (Friday) at a certain famous Western-style restaurant located on the second floor in a narrow alley leading to the so-called "back Teramachi" behind Kawaramachi OPA! The Western-style restaurant had a long line. As we climbed the stairs, we found the entrance to the restaurant right away. The chef was alone and there were no other customers, so when we mentioned it was our first time, he kindly let us in. The small, counter-only interior had a cozy, hideaway atmosphere! It felt very calming. I went with a friend, and we were advised to order at least four servings of gyoza since they were on the smaller side. We ordered exactly four servings for our first time, but looking back, we could have easily eaten around six servings! The gyoza is wrapped and cooked after you order, so we waited a bit while nibbling on cucumber pickles. We were asked if we wanted fresh pickles or aged pickles, and we chose fresh pickles. They were well marinated and delicious, but my friend thought they could have been a bit less pickled. When the gyoza was ready, we tried them. While the green onion gyoza tends to steal the show, the perilla leaf gyoza was superb! It was my first time trying such a refreshing and tasty gyoza! I felt like I could eat as many as I wanted! Plus, the special sauce with sudachi citrus juice was so gentle on the stomach! We finished eight pieces and almost forgot, but adding black pepper to the sudachi citrus juice would have been great! Of course, the green onion gyoza was also delicious! It comes with 16 pieces by default, topped with green onions, egg yolk, and miso sauce. You can request extra miso sauce, and don't forget to sprinkle some powdered sansho pepper on it before dipping and eating. The atmosphere was great, and it was an amazing experience! I'll definitely come back for the perilla leaf gyoza! The chef kindly asked us to visit again. It was delicious! Thank you for the meal!

I went to Gyoza Taisan on the floor below the second bar of the day and ordered two servings for one person (^o^;) I wonder if even a clumsy person like me can eat it? I'll wait for the gyoza while drinking my drink. They seem to wrap them after taking the order❗ I was already a bit drunk, so I ordered two servings of regular gyoza, but maybe I should have tried different types... Taisan seems to be the name of the owner, who came from Kobe to open a gyoza shop in Kyoto. We had a fun conversation. The gyoza was small, with thin skin, very light and easy to eat, but you could still taste the garlic and ginger in the filling. Even someone clumsy like me finished them in no time~ I had two beers. Thank you for the meal.
