It is a place where yakitori is the main focus, rather than being just an izakaya with yakitori. The exterior is welcoming to customers and the interior is standard. The restaurant is non-smoking. ◇Seating The restaurant has a small number of counter seats and table seats. ◇Menu Composition The menu is divided into a regular menu and a whiteboard menu. The regular menu consists of only skewers, while the whiteboard menu offers other dishes as well. The items I ordered are as follows: - Chicken Skin and Burdock (180 yen) → Tax-inclusive price, price per skewer. Also known as "torikawa." Fukuoka is known for its spiral-shaped yakitori, but not all yakitori in Kitakyushu is like that. Some places, like this one, serve the traditional crispy style. This place removes as much fat as possible, resulting in a hard texture similar to burdock. It may be a bit exaggerated, but for those who enjoy crispy textures, this skewer is definitely delicious. ◆Strong Points Despite the name "creative," the yakitori here is delicious and traditional! ◆Service Despite having other customers, the owner manages the restaurant alone. It's impressive how he can handle it, maybe because they focus on yakitori. The master of the restaurant is so friendly that it almost makes you want to say, "Owari Nagoya holds the castle, while Waya holds it with the personality of the general." The atmosphere is great, and the skewers are delicious! Two reviewers I used to drink with often before the COVID-19 pandemic both highly recommended this place, so I was curious to try it out. I had visited once before but they were closed, so I hesitated to go back in case they were closed again. Finally, I visited for the first time recently. The restaurant specializes in yakitori, but more than half of the skewers are creative dishes. They combine traditional ingredients in new ways, like miso-marinated skewers, mayonnaise with cod roe, and salt koji. The skewers are not too outlandish, but they are all incredibly well-made. Unfortunately, the scallop bacon-wrapped with uni sauce and the premium wagyu beef were no longer on the menu. The master, who seemed quiet at first, became more talkative as the night went on, perhaps because there were fewer customers due to the pandemic. It turns out he used to run another restaurant in a different location, which I had actually visited before without realizing it. We had a great time drinking and chatting, and I didn't even realize I had forgotten to write a review for that visit (laughs).

Creative yakitori restaurant "Nagoya" located near the bookstore "Quest". The interior of the restaurant has counter seats and table seats. There were three yakitori madams as previous customers. I chose to sit at the counter near the entrance. I ordered the following items. For my drink, I chose hot water mixed with sweet potato shochu, priced at 250 yen per glass. I remember having four glasses. - The appetizer was sashimi, which was fresh and firm. - Cabbage was served as a side dish with the yakitori. - You can order yakitori sticks one by one, allowing you to enjoy them while they are still hot. The meat was grilled to a crispy and fragrant finish over charcoal. There were salt, sauce, and creative seasonings available. The salt was slightly mild, while the soy sauce-based sauce was rich and sweet. When requested, shichimi spice was also provided. - Memorable yakitori sticks included pork belly with miso sauce, scallop wrapped in bacon with sea urchin sauce, premium wagyu beef loin, crispy chicken skin with burdock, and homemade chicken meatball with sauce. - The special curry was offered as a complimentary dish by the owner. It was a slightly soupy curry with chunks of beef and flaky fish, along with a hint of soy sauce-like flavor. It was flavorful and not too spicy. The total bill came to 3000 yen. The pricing was reasonable for the quality of food offered. There was a discount on a special yakitori course that day, and other customers seemed to enjoy it as well. The restaurant had a casual and friendly atmosphere, with the owner and a female staff member providing attentive service. Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience at this creative yakitori restaurant.

I happened to stop by this restaurant on this day. It's called "Sousaku Yakitori Waya" in Maibari, Kokura Kita-ku. I sat at an available table and carefully looked through the menu. After about 69 seconds of consideration, I placed various orders. The standout dish was the "Kawa Gobo" for 150 yen. I was amazed by how delicious it was. I can't find the right words to express its taste. If I hadn't come across this restaurant, I might have lived a dull life without knowing about such delicious "Kawa Gobo." I am completely satisfied. Leave it to the chef for 8 unique and delicious dishes. The chef may seem unfriendly at first, but once you start talking to him, he won't stop. It's a restaurant where you can easily dine alone.
