Located in front of Kyoto University of Arts, I previously tried their famous mapo tofu, but had a strange taste experience due to the Sichuan peppercorns. This time, I chose the thinly sliced pork with spicy sauce instead of mapo, which I had been curious about. The thinly sliced pork with spicy sauce for ¥1,250 and mini tantanmen for ¥700 were the right choices. They were incredibly delicious and I could enjoy them without any taste issues. The combination of spicy sauce and pork was perfect, making it a dish worth coming for. The mini tantanmen also had a slightly spicy taste from the chili peppers, but even those who are not good with spiciness can eat it because it's mildly spicy. I will definitely come back to eat here again. It's convenient that they have parking space for three cars, making it easy to visit by car.

No matter what you order, it's delicious without fail. I've been back many times, and besides the mapo tofu, everything else is also quite tasty. You can't miss the mapo tofu, so it's a place where you'll want to come with two or more people and share multiple dishes. The mapo tofu is on the spicier side with a hint of sweetness. Other dishes are also generally spicy, but each has its own subtle differences in taste. They have parking, good value for the price, and rice refills are free. Even on weekdays, it can get quite crowded during lunchtime.

I visited for Sunday lunch. It was raining, so I thought we could get in quickly, but there were many reserved customers, so we ended up waiting from just after 12 o'clock until 1 o'clock. I recommend making a reservation before going. The mapo tofu had too much Sichuan pepper, making it difficult to finish eating it.

The interior of the restaurant is beautiful. The Oolong tea is delicious. I ordered the miso eggplant stir-fry and boiled pork with spicy garlic sauce. The flavor is richer compared to other Chinese restaurants in Kyoto, but the spiciness is still not like authentic Chinese cuisine. Also, I felt that the prices were not cheap.

Visited with my wife after a long time. Lately, I've been craving spicy food. Ordered the Um Pai Lo set with Ma La Men, glass noodles and chicken meatballs, and added water dumplings. Even though I've been cutting back on rice for my diet, I couldn't stop eating. Lips tingling like carbonated water from the Ma La Men, slurping it up, devouring the Um Pai Lo and glass noodles, and quickly finishing everything with rice. Was completely satisfied. Ended the meal with the soothing sweetness of almond jelly and mango pudding, breaking a good sweat before heading home.

We visited around 6:30 pm on July 2, 2023, with my wife. We parked our car in the parking lot and sat at the designated counter seats to place our order. We ordered the mapo tofu set with soupless tantanmen, and the spicy simmered glass noodles with crab. We asked for extra rice. The dishes were served in order, and the rice went really well with everything. The mapo tofu had a delicious spiciness from the Sichuan pepper, and the flavor of the glass noodles absorbing the sauce was great. It was so tasty that we even thought about getting more rice. It was a really nice restaurant.

It's not just any Chinese food in Kyoto, it's the real deal. The famous Wunpai Lo was the best! The sauce was absolutely amazing, packed with a wonderful mix of flavors - savory, sweet, and spicy. Dip the tender pork generously and eat it with crunchy cucumbers. The spicy stir-fried eggplant and soupless tantanmen were both delicious, although the minced meat was a bit overpowering. The spicy tantanmen with chewy noodles was fantastic. The beer went down smoothly. Next time, I want to try the mapo tofu.

The numbing spiciness and refreshing scent of Sichuan pepper were intense but surprisingly left a clean aftertaste. It was delicious~~~ I asked for less rice, but now I regret it a bit. Thank you for the meal.

I entered the restaurant right after it opened. It's a Sichuan cuisine restaurant, so I ordered the mapo tofu set. In the photo, it only shows rice and mapo tofu, but it also comes with pickled vegetables and soup. The mapo tofu is close to the authentic taste with a spicy kick, but the spiciness is mild, so it's much more tolerable than it looks. I think those who like it will really enjoy it, but for me, I couldn't fully appreciate the taste. Therefore, I rate it as a neutral 3, neither positive nor negative. Thank you for the meal.

We visited the restaurant on a Sunday afternoon as a party of two. The interior was almost full, and we were seated at the counter. We ordered the famous mapo tofu, which my friend who frequents this place had warned me about beforehand - it was really numbingly spicy! It's not the spiciness of chili peppers, but rather the sharp spiciness of Sichuan pepper that is strong. The person next to us was sweating like a waterfall. However, it's not just spicy, it's also very delicious! I would recommend it to those who like mapo tofu and Sichuan pepper!

Visited on the recommendation of my son. You can park up to three cars at Nakashojima. Waited a bit in line and entered the restaurant. Filled with the smell of Chinese food and spices. Ordered the mapo tofu lunch and B lunch. The mapo tofu is not very spicy, so those who like spicy food should ask for extra spiciness. However, you will sweat a lot. The shark fin seafood bowl is seriously delicious.

Hello there. I traveled all the way to Kyoto. I heard this place is popular, so I left at 9 o'clock. The menu was like this. The soup was also delicious. I added pickled vegetables spring rolls and the mapo tofu had a strong flavor. When it comes to this, it becomes a satisfyingly delicious meal. Next time, I'll try the steamed dumplings. Thank you for the meal. Well then, goodbye.

I arrived around 11:45 on Sunday and there were about 5 groups ahead of me in line, but we were able to enter the restaurant around 12:45. I ordered the mapo tofu set for 1200 yen, and it was delicious with a strong flavor of sansho pepper and spiciness. It's a winner! It seems like reservations are possible, so I would like to make a reservation for my next visit.

"Rakuda" is famous for its spicy Sichuan cuisine. The flavors used to be spicier in the past, but it seems they have reconsidered based on customer feedback, as the spiciness has become slightly milder. However, now there are signs saying "Can be made spicier" which were not there before. Whether you order mapo tofu, spicy stir-fried eggplant, chicken meatballs, or thinly sliced pork with spicy sauce, everything is exceptionally delicious. The addictive unique spiciness might hook you, but the fact that you can have unlimited rice refills is also very much appreciated.

I have been visiting this restaurant for over 20 years. The mapo tofu has a strong Sichuan peppercorn flavor that makes your mouth tingle. It's addictive. The tantanmen noodles have a spicy kick but also a rich sesame flavor. They offer a variety of noodles like soup-less tantanmen, hot and sour soup noodles, and spicy noodles, so I always have a hard time deciding what to order.

The restaurant opened on a weekday and was already a bit busy with about 3 groups inside shortly after opening. I ordered the Cloud White Meat lunch set for ¥1250. The Cloud White Meat had delicious sauce with a depth of flavor like sweet soy sauce, a hint of star anise sweetness, and excellent spiciness from chili oil. The black specks might be fermented black beans. The pork had some tough parts, but the fat added sweetness and umami that paired well with the sauce. The cucumber was slightly firm, almost thick. The soup had a large amount of egg, about ten times more than a family restaurant. It also had plenty of ingredients like chicken and cabbage pieces, showing attention to detail even in the side dishes. The rice portion was normal, but I recommend getting a larger portion or a refill since the bowl is small. The hospitality was lovely, with tea served in a teapot and various payment methods available. Next time, I'll try the Oyster Mapo Tofu, which seems promising.

Visited on February 1, 2023, and rated out of 5 points: Taste ★★★★, Presentation ★★★, Value for money ★★★★, Service ★★★, Ambiance ★. I entered the restaurant as soon as it opened. I ordered the mapo tofu set with an additional spring roll. By the time the soup arrived, there were already customers waiting. While I also wanted to try the spicy pork, I started with the mapo tofu. The soup had a gentle flavor with plenty of eggs and vegetables, and it was delicious. A very tasty warm tea was served instead of water, which was much appreciated on a cold day. As for the mapo tofu, I had heard it was quite spicy from previous reviews, but it was not as spicy as I expected. The balance between the firm tofu and the spices was good, and the taste was enjoyable. Thank you for the meal.

I visited a popular Chinese restaurant in Kitashirakawa for lunch because I was craving Mapo Tofu. The Mapo Tofu was priced at 1,100 yen. The spiciness came more from Sansho pepper than chili oil, making my taste buds numb and unable to determine if it was delicious. As it was getting hot, even the water tasted extremely bad due to my messed up taste buds. The flavorful Mapo Tofu I was seeking did not suit my taste. The ceramic decorations were very cute, and I liked this playful touch. There are many other intriguing items on the menu, so I would like to come back prepared to lose my sense of taste again.

Oyster and Egg Spicy Stir-Fry Set ¥1950 Finally tried the oyster menu at Rakuda-san! Available only from November to March, a winter limited item that I've been wanting to eat since missing out last year (;;) Arrived before the 11:30 am opening and already several groups were waiting, so it was full as soon as it opened. It's recommended to make a reservation if you want to go for sure. The set comes with egg soup, pickled vegetables, and white rice, with the egg soup and pickled vegetables served first. The egg soup had a lot of eggs and was incredibly delicious! There are places where the soup in sets is cheap, but here it had a proper amount and great taste, which was good. The oysters that were brought later were visually stunning for oyster lovers... I haven't seen such large ones in a while! There were 5 large oysters, eggs, shiitake mushrooms, mushrooms, and komatsuna. The richly seasoned dish had a subtle spiciness and was delicious... (;_;) I couldn't stop eating the rice. The oysters, not just in appearance but also in taste, were perfect, with the essence of the oysters bursting out as soon as I bit into them, it was fantastic. It was the most delicious oyster I've had this season. The lunch price is not cheap, but I thought it was worth it to have these oysters. I want to go back even though the access is inconvenient because I also want to try their Unpairo.

When I visited during lunchtime, there were 2 groups waiting. Since it was raining, I thought it wouldn't be too bad to wait with 2 groups, but we ended up waiting for over 40 minutes. I thought maybe it's a slow turnover at the restaurant, but it didn't seem that way. We happened to order the mapo tofu, which arrived in 5 minutes. The mapo tofu was extremely spicy, almost too hot to finish, but we managed to eat it somehow. There was a sign on the wall saying you could add extra spiciness for 100 yen, and I couldn't help but think, "Would it really get even spicier than this?" Be careful with spicy dishes. Thank you for the meal.
