It was hot outside but I was craving for some spicy hot pot, so I thought about trying Akakara Nabe. I went to the restaurant without a reservation. I found out that there are 3 Akakara Nabe locations in Shibuya. The restaurant I visited was on the 3rd floor of a mixed-use building. When I arrived, there was one group ahead of me waiting. They told me it would be about a 10-minute wait, but I ended up waiting for about 15 minutes before being seated. The clientele at the restaurant was quite young, mostly teenagers and people in their early twenties. The atmosphere was a bit noisy. The staff explained the menu to me. They were offering a summer limited-time all-you-can-eat and all-you-can-drink deal for 3000 yen, but there was a 250 yen cover charge. Tax was not included. The all-you-can-eat menu was limited, and the ingredients for the hot pot were pre-determined. Since I don't eat much but I drink, I opted for the all-you-can-drink option for 1500 yen. The draft beer was slightly warm. For the food, I had:
- Spicy potato salad as an appetizer, which was average.
- Akakara Nabe for 2 people. I chose the recommended spice level of 3, but I went for level 4. It had beef hormone, pork, garlic chives, bean sprouts, Nagoya Cochin chicken meatballs, fried tofu, leeks, and Chinese cabbage. It was cooked on a tabletop stove for about 10 minutes. The Akakara Nabe was delicious, with a sweet and spicy miso flavor. The fried tofu, pork, garlic chives, and bean sprouts were particularly good. They also provided extra spicy miso on the side, which was a nice touch.
- I added on some Tteokbokki, chicken tenderloin, sliced potatoes, and a Taiwan hot pot set. The sliced potatoes were delicious.
- I also ordered a Cheese Risotto, which was made on the spot by the staff. It was very tasty and I would definitely order it again next time.
- Lastly, I had a Parmigiano Pasta, which was also delicious. It had 3 types of cheese, bacon, and thick flat noodles. It was a satisfying end to the meal.
Overall, I enjoyed my experience at Akakara Nabe and would definitely go back.
