It's the Obon season in Japan. Today is a public holiday for Mountain Day, so it's a 3-day weekend. I had some errands in Shibuya today and was looking for a place where I could grab a quick meal in about 30 minutes to an hour. Shibuya has plenty of cafes to choose from, as expected in a young people's town. Among them, I was torn between Cafe Coffee KAN Shibuya and another cafe with a similar name, but the bread menu at this one looked delicious, so I decided to go here! The location is on the 1st floor of Shibuya Cross Tower, about a 5-minute walk from Shibuya Station, which is an office building. This place has a restaurant area. I arrived around 2 pm, still before the end of lunchtime, but all the shops seemed closed, and the corridors were dim and quiet in some places. Oh no, this place might be closed... I was starting to give up, but then I noticed people coming out of the cafe, so I realized it was open. Inside the cafe was more spacious than it seemed from the outside. Despite being a holiday tea time, there were hardly any customers. Maybe because the offices were closed. The staff were chatting casually, creating a laid-back atmosphere. It's no wonder that hardly anyone would come in when all the restaurants in the area are closed and it's so quiet. Just when I was thinking that, a few couples of ladies entered, one after another. The ladies who sat next to me seemed to be part of a nearby hobby circle gathering. They were having elegant conversations, typical of leisurely ladies... The menu is as shown in the images. I deliberately took a photo of the parts that don't seem like they would be on Tabelog. Although not shown in the photos, there is quite a variety of just iced coffee alone! Especially the hot varieties range from fully ripened beans to original fancy-named blends. Just as expected from a coffee shop named Coffee KAN. For my meal, I decided to go with the Coffee KAN Hot Dog, which was recommended quite a bit. It costs ¥390. Since there was no drink set available for this menu, I also ordered a single iced coffee. I was slightly indecisive about which one to choose, but the waitress recommended the Coffee KAN Iced Coffee, which she said had a sour taste, so I went with that. It costs ¥480. After about 10 minutes, the drink and the meal arrived. I didn't notice when I ordered, but there was a small salad included! A pleasant surprise for me (I'm too easily pleased)... First, I tried the iced coffee. Oh... This is... As the waitress mentioned, it has a sour taste! A lingering aromatic aftertaste. The milk I added halfway through was quite creamy, almost like whipped cream, which complemented the coffee well. Maybe it was because I added too much. Now, onto the meal - the hot dog! The pickles were not as salty and the mustard not as spicy as they appeared, making it easy to eat, but it felt slightly lacking in flavor. I ended up adding Tabasco sauce, which I rarely do. The taste was just right for me. Overall, it was delicious! The sausage was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The bread was soft, nothing out of the ordinary. The portion size was typical of a cafe light meal, perfect for a quick bite when you don't feel like fast food. Although there were some customers coming in later, the place felt spacious, so seating was comfortable. Near the register, they were also selling their original coffee beans. You can enjoy their special taste at home too. If you want to leisurely enjoy quality coffee on a holiday in Shibuya, this cafe is a great choice!
