I heard that there is a set meal where you can enjoy delicious sashimi and freshly fried tempura at the same time, so I went to Ishikoro, a creative izakaya in Kitahama. For lunch, you can choose from tempura or fried chicken along with sashimi. The restaurant is located between Kitahama and Sakaisuji Hommachi. It has an elegant white noren and a calm atmosphere inside with dim lighting and warm pendant lights. There are counter seats for 5-6 people around the kitchen, as well as tables for 4 and 6 people, making it convenient for groups. I visited just before 1 pm on a weekday, and about half of the seats were occupied. I was seated at a table for 4 people even though I was dining alone.
Lunch is available from Tuesday to Friday, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm (please check the latest information from the restaurant for current business hours). Today's lunch menu includes the following options (all prices include tax):
- Tempura shrimp and vegetable with sashimi: 1,000 yen
- Fried chicken thigh and sashimi: 980 yen
I ordered the tempura and sashimi set. The tempura is fried fresh to order. While waiting, I could hear the sound of tempura frying and the soft piano jazz playing in the background. After about 10 minutes, a splendid meal was served.
The set included tempura shrimp and vegetables along with three types of fresh sashimi. The meal also came with shiny rice, miso soup, and a side dish. The sashimi consisted of tuna, flounder, and horse mackerel. The tuna was smooth and creamy, with a rich flavor. The flounder had a firm and fresh texture, with a subtle sweetness. The horse mackerel was also flavorful and fatty, making each piece of sashimi satisfying.
The tempura was crispy and fragrant, with two shrimp, eggplant, burdock root, and green pepper. The thick and crispy batter complemented the sweet and juicy shrimp well. The tempura vegetables were also delicious, especially when dipped in the daikon radish-infused tentsuyu sauce.
Overall, the quality and presentation of the sashimi and tempura were excellent. The meal also included side dishes like dashimaki tamago and assorted vegetables, as well as perfectly cooked rice and flavorful miso soup. The attentive service from the female staff added to the enjoyable dining experience. Ishikoro is a great place to enjoy high-quality and reasonably priced dishes in a relaxed atmosphere. Thank you for the delicious meal!
