Red Haruka & Anno Imo 550 yen
A sweet potato shop located near Kuchiamu along Prefectural Route 25. When I visited and greeted them, they kindly asked, "Where are you from?" in a gentle tone. They offered us warm tea and let us taste their different sweet potatoes while having a pleasant conversation. The lady there had a lovely smile and a soft demeanor. The character of a boy, which is the trademark of the shop, was designed by her son. There is also a miscellaneous goods shop run by her daughter on the same premises. It turns out that someone related to the lady lives very close to my current stay location, although I don't think I will actually visit them. They kindly provided detailed directions. When I returned home and reheated the sweet potatoes a bit, I found that the Red Haruka was moist and the Anno Imo was sticky and sweet, both with a high sugar content. They tasted delicious with green tea. Thank you for the meal! ^ ^ ===========

There is a sweet potato shop located on the Kanikaki Road (Route 25) in Sone Shinden, which my husband stumbled upon and bought some sweet potatoes. Even though I usually don't eat sweet potatoes, I ended up eating half of one and asking to be taken to the shop next time. When we visited the shop a couple of days later, we were warmly welcomed by the friendly and talkative owner. She served us tea and let us taste the freshly baked sweet potatoes. The sticky sweetness of the Anno sweet potatoes was enhanced by the pot baking method, and I ended up finishing one completely. The Beniharuka sweet potatoes were fluffy and lightly sweet, a classic baked sweet potato taste. We also bought some frozen sweet potatoes as souvenirs for our family.

On this day, I casually visited "Tsubo Yakiimo Imocco" located in Kamisono, Kitakyushu City.
◇Exterior and Interior
The shop is located along Prefectural Route 25, which extends from JR Shimozono Station towards Karata. It is also part of the Kitakyushu Kani Kaki Road. There are other dining establishments along this road, but it is mostly a rural area with rice fields. In this countryside setting, there is a lone farmhouse with a small flag and sign in front of the property. I had passed by this place several times and decided to stop by out of curiosity.
The exterior of the shop is a typical Japanese house. Next to it, there is a warehouse-like space with pots lined up. There is also a small reception and cash register where a friendly Japanese lady greets you with a lovely smile.
◇Seating
Takeout only.
◇Menu Structure
This is a shop specializing in baked sweet potatoes. They offer both hot and cold baked sweet potatoes. I ordered the following:
- Cold Baked Sweet Potato (200 yen)
I ordered this as it was getting warmer. The variety was Beni Haruka, possibly from Miyazaki Prefecture. I had assumed it was from the field next to my house. The price is determined by weight or size. As for the taste, it was quite sweet. The sweet flavor of the sweet potato itself, enhanced by the heat, was even more pronounced with Beni Haruka. It was sweet, but not overwhelmingly so, with a nice aftertaste. The texture was soft and chewy. This is definitely a traditional Japanese snack.
◆Strong Points
Enjoy traditional Japanese snacks here.
◆Customer Service
The lady serving us was very nice!
◆Conclusion
In short, it was a good decision to stop by. They even served us tea. The use of pots added a nice touch to the experience, although I forgot to ask why they use pots. Thank you for the meal!
