Having lunch at "Kumagoro," a restaurant established in 1969 located in Abeno Apollo Building B1. I remembered the old days when I used to eat ramen at local Chinese restaurants. There were shops claiming to serve "Sapporo Ramen," but there were hardly any ramen specialty shops like today. Later on, places like "Kotan," "Kumagoro," "Kinryu," and "Kanza" were considered new and delicious. Feeling nostalgic, I decided to visit "Kumagoro" while in Abeno. I entered the restaurant and opted for a ramen dish instead of the popular "Tenshin Chahan Set" as I planned to have bread later. The complimentary tea was a nice touch! They also had black pepper, garlic powder, pepper, chili oil, and other condiments for flavor enhancement. I vaguely remember receiving complimentary kimchi as well. I ordered the "Garlic Soy Sauce Ramen" for 750 yen. The traditional taste of clear pork bone soy sauce was delightful. The soup was rich and hot, with a nice pork bone soy sauce flavor. The noodles were firm and had a high water content. The two slices of chashu were slightly thick and tender, releasing a delicious meaty flavor. The crunchy texture of the bean sprouts added a nice touch. I sprinkled plenty of black pepper for flavor variation, which enhanced the taste significantly. When I added garlic powder, the ramen transformed into a rich and flavorful dish, similar to the taste of "Kotan." Next, I tried the "Miso Ramen" for 780 yen, which had a blend of four types of miso for a rich and flavorful taste. The soup had a roasted flavor with a good balance of richness and sharpness, paired well with the medium-thick noodles. The toppings included pork mince, chashu, bean sprouts, green onions, onions, and konjac. Overall, it was a delicious meal.
