The anago was amazing! The sashimi, tempura, and chawanmushi were all delicious! I was very satisfied! The vinegar and mackerel collaboration, kizushi... paired well with the sake. The chawanmushi was a luxurious jumbo chawanmushi. With this deliciousness at this price... it was a great value restaurant.

Located in Kawabata Nijo, Kyoto, this small restaurant is bustling with salarymen on Monday evenings. I had made a reservation and was seated on the second floor. The dining room exudes a Showa-era atmosphere. We started with a sashimi platter - the tuna, bonito, and sweet shrimp were incredibly fresh! The pickled fish was also delicious. The beer went down smoothly. The horse mackerel fry paired perfectly with the mild tartar sauce - it was so good that I couldn't help but exclaim "delicious!" The simmered sea bream was also excellent. The eel was tasty too! The cost performance of the seafood here is top-notch. The highball was quite strong, so it might be a good idea to specify the strength beforehand. The service was a bit rushed, and I felt the service quality declined midway through. However, overall, this restaurant is highly satisfying, so I recommend making a reservation in advance. If you go early in the evening, the menu selection is abundant, but many items are limited, so I wouldn't recommend going late. If you love fish, this is a restaurant you must visit.

I went to Yokocho on Nijo Street as my second stop♩ The seafood was delicious, everything we ordered was amazing! The menu we ordered included a luxurious sashimi platter (without shellfish) with shrimp, squid, octopus, chu-toro, cherry sea bream, and mackerel, sourced from various regions across Japan. The chu-toro was incredibly melt-in-your-mouth delicious. We also had the seasonal bamboo shoot simmered dish with a light broth that soaked into the bamboo shoot, offering a fantastic texture. The appetizer plate had firefly squid, rolled omelette with dashi, simmered pumpkin, and more, all delicately seasoned and delicious. The seafood chawanmushi was filled with plenty of seafood like scallops, squid, octopus, and eel. Unfortunately, the famous mackerel sushi was sold out, which was disappointing. I want to come back for a rematch! We had a couple of glasses of draft beer, or was it three? The food was so good that I forgot the exact number. Every dish paired well with alcohol and was delicious! Next time, I want to visit the first place and try many other intriguing dishes.Visited on: Saturday at 9 pm. I made a reservation by phone a little earlier. The last order is at 9:30 pm, so we made it just in time. This place is popular, so early reservations are a must. There are counter seats and table seats, and the service was excellent and very pleasant.

Visited on a weekday night. Managed to secure a reservation on the day as it was right after a typhoon, but there wasn't much good fish available due to cancellations... They seemed unsure but served a sashimi platter that was surprisingly delicious! Made me want to go back to see what the restaurant is like when they have a variety of fish available. The dishes were generally tasty, but the clams were particularly large and delicious! The sake was also quite reasonable, so I have high expectations for my next visit when they have a good selection of fish.

A seafood izakaya that is rare to find in Kyoto. It quickly filled up with reservations soon after opening. The menu is so extensive that it's hard to decide what to order. Everything we tried was delicious, and the wide selection of sake might be another reason for its popularity. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

A restaurant located in Yokochou Kawabata Nijo. There is a parking lot nearby ✨ It's always crowded, so reservations are essential. Everything is cheap and delicious, but the grilled yellowtail is incredibly delicious ✨ The fish menu changes depending on the day. You can make a reservation over the phone to some extent. It's a great place where you can eat really delicious and fresh fish. They also have good sake pairings, so you can leisurely enjoy your drinks. If you're looking for cheap and delicious fish, this is the place. The number of chefs is amazing, and the head chef and hostess are very warm and welcoming ✨ Thank you for the meal.

Assorted sashimi platter with appetizers. Featuring natural black tuna from Chiba, Yokowa from Yamaguchi, octopus from Miyazu, spotted reef squid from Wakayama, cherry bream from Wakayama, natural cherry sea bream from Awaji, botan shrimp in sake from Rikyuan, rolled omelette in Yamadanishiki sake from Shinsei, grilled eel in kabayaki from Kirakucho, dry and spicy Junmai Karaho sake, extra spicy with a kick +25, dried flounder skewers, katsu soup, special mackerel sushi from Yokochou, takeout sashimi was delicious as mentioned in other reviews. Not that cheap, but the place is cleaner and better than expected.

I headed to the izakaya "Yokochou" in Kawaba Nijo Higashi for an early drink on a cold day. It's a popular spot where you can enjoy seafood dishes at a reasonable price. Despite being fully booked, we were able to get a table until 7 pm. We started with a cold beer even though it was cold outside (¥550). Since we had a late lunch, we ordered lightly: - Potato salad (¥350) - Fried oysters (¥600) - Lotus root manju (¥700) - Rolled omelette (¥450) - Yellowtail with daikon radish (¥800) - 2 servings of hot sake (¥950) Everything tasted great, good value for money, and we were grateful for a pleasant time. Thank you for the meal!

First stop on my trip to Kyoto. It's been a while since I've been to Kyoto, so I made a reservation with the assumption of spending some money. The assorted sashimi was delicious with fresh tuna, ark shell, sea bream, and squid. Enjoyed it with beer and sake from Gifu. The rolled omelette had a consistently good taste. Spent about an hour there, then went on to enjoy the cherry blossoms at Kodai-ji Temple and Kiyomizu Temple before heading to the next spot!!

I finally visited "Yokochou" which I've always wanted to go to after hearing that they started serving lunch. The lunch menu includes Tempura Set Meal for 1000 yen, Grilled Fish Set Meal for 1000 yen, Fry Set Meal for 1000 yen, and Special Set Meal for 1500 yen. I ordered the Special Set Meal. I was surprised by the generous portion when it arrived. It includes 3 side dishes, rice, pickles, Mie's new wakame (seaweed not in the photo), and miso soup made with sake lees from Gifu Prefecture. The main sashimi dish includes squid, octopus, scallop, sea bream, sweet shrimp, bonito, and various other types, making it very satisfying. The fact that you can have unlimited rice refills is also a nice touch. I can't wait to go back for dinner soon.

In this day and age... it can't be helped... even when I go to my favorite restaurant, I'm quite conscious of the time. If you're looking for delicious food in Kyoto, this place is recommended. They have excellent infection prevention measures in place. I definitely want to try the assorted sashimi and mackerel sushi. Today's fish selection includes blackfin tuna from Ine, Yokowa mackerel from Himi, flounder from Nagasaki, yellowtail from Maizuru, oval squid from Wakayama, octopus from Okayama, sweet shrimp from Ishikawa, and sea urchin from Nemuro. The mackerel sushi is a well-known specialty. The scallop tempura is delicious with salt, and it's also excellent with tempura dipping sauce. The sea bream roe is a taste of home for me, but here it's even more delicious... of course, it's delicious!!! Even the sautéed burdock root is so delicious that it goes well with alcohol. Despite having such delicious food... the only concern was the shortened operating hours. Thank you for the meal!!!

The counter seemed popular and was full, so I made a reservation for a table on the 2nd floor the day before. We were guided to a table as per the instructions. There were already three groups in the large rooms on the 2nd floor, with a 2-hour limit. There were many types of dishes to choose from. I hesitated while ordering. Not knowing the portion sizes, I asked the staff for recommendations and ordered dishes that would take time as well as ones that would come out quickly. Other customers were reminded that they had almost reached their 2-hour limit, even though they had entered early. The restaurant is popular for offering fresh fish at a casual price, so I ordered seafood dishes. It felt more like a local seafood izakaya rather than a traditional Japanese restaurant, with generous portion sizes. It may not compare to fresh seafood near the ocean, but it was enjoyable to chat and drink sake with friends. The staff were frequently passing by, making it easy to place orders. It's a place where you can casually drop by without needing to plan ahead, which may not be suitable for tourists who specifically came to visit Kyoto.

New discovery! I was browsing through Tabelog for a new restaurant and found a promising one. Managed to make a reservation for the same day. When I arrived, the place was so crowded that customers were being turned away at the front of the store. I was just lucky to get in! 😄 Started with a sashimi platter, then ordered a few other delicious-looking dishes, including grilled matsutake mushrooms and hairy crab. They even showed us the fresh ingredients they were using. The sashimi platter had both abalone and without, and I chose with. Matsutake mushrooms ✨, abalone ✨, hairy crab ✨ – it was a luxurious feast and the price was unbelievably cheap! Both the taste and price left me completely satisfied‼️ I want to go back there again soon. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

The menu is extensive and I had a hard time deciding what to order with options like child-cured kombu. The location is a bit off the beaten path, but it was packed with customers, so everyone must know the food is delicious. I remember seeing a sign for Oma tuna from a few years ago - I wonder if they still source it? I'd love to try it.

It's been a while since I visited Kyoto. On the second night, we went to this izakaya recommended by a friend. We started with a toast with draft beer. For the sashimi platter, we chose the one without shellfish. The various dishes included tuna from Oma, sea bream from Awaji, live conger eel from Ehime, live horse mackerel from Shimotsui, octopus from Nagasaki, and sweet shrimp. The freshness was outstanding, especially the horse mackerel and conger eel were exceptionally delicious. We also tried the hamo tempura with assorted vegetables and grilled buttered firefly squid from Awaji. The highlight was the hairy crab, which was beautifully prepared and tasted heavenly. We couldn't resist the house specialty, the special mackerel sushi and clam miso soup. Everything was flawless, and though the service was a bit slow, it was worth the wait. We left feeling completely satisfied and looking forward to returning next year. It was a delightful dining experience!

Located somewhere between Sanjo Station and Jingu Marutamachi Station, a bit away from the city center, I've only visited this place twice. But just one look at the sashimi makes it clear - you can enjoy delicious seasonal dishes paired with sake here. While it's labeled as an izakaya, it's better to think of it as a high-quality small plates restaurant. If possible, sit at the beautiful white wooden counter and watch the ingredients being prepared in front of you as you order. However, it's a popular spot with a spacious interior, so it's common to see groups of customers. Be prepared for items to be sold out, so an early start and making a reservation in advance is recommended. On this visit, we arrived close to 8 p.m. and luckily there were two seats available at the counter. With many items sold out, we focused on a sashimi platter, fried young ayu, fried eggplant with grated yam, and grilled man'yoji peppers. Our hunger was satisfied, and we enjoyed immersing ourselves in the lively atmosphere of the restaurant.

I wanted to eat delicious sashimi, so I researched on Tabelog and went to this restaurant. Heading north on Kawabata Sanjo, then east on Nijo Street, the restaurant was located along the road. The exterior and interior didn't give off a high-end vibe. The clientele seemed to be older. The sashimi platter I had reserved in advance had an unknown price (probably around 3000 yen?), while other dishes were priced like a slightly upscale izakaya. The presentation of the conger eel tempura had a Kyoto-like touch, with a subtle elegance. I enjoyed the flavorful broth of the steamed clams. Every dish was delicious and satisfying. They had a decent selection of local sake, and I tried the Kira Nagisa from Shiga Prefecture. It was fruity yet refreshing, complementing the flavors of the dishes well. I thoroughly enjoyed both the food and sake.
