Merry Christmas! This year, Christmas falls on a weekend, giving us a 3-day weekend including Christmas Eve. Today, on the 25th, I decided to treat myself to a delicious lunch at a highly rated French restaurant called "Ensemble" nearby. I made a reservation the day before and arrived at 11:30 am. We were the only customers at first, but soon more reserved customers started coming in, and the restaurant was almost full. The clientele seemed to be on the older side. The menu offered a 2,100 yen and a 3,500 yen course, as well as special Christmas evening courses ranging from 7,500 yen to 10,000 yen, which were also available for lunch on that day. I chose the 3,500 yen course this time (a bold choice for a commoner like me, haha). The "appetizer platter" included prosciutto, smoked salmon, clam saffron stew, and my first taste of escargot, which I found satisfying in terms of content and flavor. The balance of seafood and mountain delicacies was also good. The "soup" was carrot-based, simple in flavor, bringing out the natural taste of the ingredients with a touch of sweetness and red berries as an accent. The "bread" included two baguettes made from French wheat and one round loaf. While I couldn't pinpoint any outstanding features, I found them delicious. The butter, as many reviews mentioned, was unique and satisfying. For the main course, I chose the fish dish, which was a classic sautéed flounder and sea bass. The fish had a safe flavor, but the sauce was mild and well-balanced, making it delicious. My companion chose the meat dish, which was a tender sautéed beef with a flavorful sauce that wasn't overpowering, offering a nice contrast. The portion was also generous. For dessert, we had a pudding made with locally sourced eggs, not too sweet, highlighting the quality of the ingredients. The ice cream was creamy and slightly sweet, very delicious. The fruit combination was enjoyable, although I personally prefer more cooked fruits. We had coffee for drinks, which was rich and flavorful. Overall, the French restaurant had a relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere, making it easy for a French cuisine beginner like me to enjoy the meal. The service was polite and somewhat homely, leaving a good impression. It's a great restaurant for a memorable meal in a casual yet authentic setting, perfect for a leisurely drive.
