It's only the beginning of July, but the hot days are continuing, making me feel a bit exhausted. During times like this, eel is the perfect choice. I visited "Unagi no Kida" for the first time. The restaurant is located along Route 15, from Tamamitsu intersection to Mitsutacho Honcho intersection. Surrounded by rural scenery, this eel restaurant stands out. I've always been curious passing by, and finally decided to visit. It was 11:30 when I arrived. There is parking space for 3-4 cars in front of the restaurant. There was a group of 4 customers already inside. I followed them in. The right side of the entrance is the dining area, while the left side has an emergency table and the kitchen. The dining area on the right is all tatami flooring. There are two 4-person raised seating areas and four 4-person tables in a spacious area across the aisle. I ordered the "Grilled Eel Set Meal (2,700 yen, tax included)". The menu on the table is written in text only. Eel is a dish that goes perfectly with rice. Since there are no photos, I couldn't tell the amount of rice... I asked if they could give me extra rice, and the reply was "You can have extra rice with the set meal, so feel free to ask". This made me happy, as I could enjoy the perfect combination of eel and rice without worry. I was served tea and eel bone senbei (rice cracker) right away. This kind of hospitality is unique to Chikugo. As I enjoyed the senbei, I noticed the display of the "Certificate of Origin for Live Eel Raw Materials". The eel sourced from farmed Shirasu eel in Japan is purchased from Eguchi Shokai in Yanagawa. The quality and reliability of this local eel wholesaler are well-known. You can feel their dedication to quality. The wait time was about 15 minutes. The eel served was half of the body from the head. The skin was crispy with a light sauce. The meat was tender with just the right thickness. The perfect thickness indeed. The eel paired wonderfully with the rice. I had half a portion of rice as a refill and turned the rest into an eel rice bowl. The rice soaked in the sauce was so delicious that I could have eaten many bowls. The warm atmosphere and homely service made the meal even more enjoyable. It was a delightful dining experience.

I often order delivery or eat at this place that I rely on! The food was delicious when I ordered delivery while visiting home! I'm used to the strong flavors in the Kanto region, so it felt a bit light, but it was still good. The prices are cheap and it's a hidden gem. The restaurant has a cozy, homey atmosphere.

We were in Yame to cheer on a high school girls' club activity match. We couldn't find any nearby diners or bento shops, but thanks to a recommendation on Jimoti, we ended up at this restaurant.

Today was hot and unbearable. My friend said, "I feel like eating eel," but I had just eaten eel with my grandmother yesterday! I pretended not to know and said, "I found a delicious curry restaurant!" but my friend insisted on eel. I had heard from an acquaintance that the eel at this place called Unagi no Kida was delicious, so I decided to visit. I had not planned on eating eel for a while... but I arrived at the restaurant before noon without hesitation, as it was a road I passed by occasionally. The restaurant had about 11 tables on both sides of the aisle. I was seated by the window and looked at the menu. Since it seemed like it would take some time for the eel to be ready, I ordered beer and pickles first. Eel and beer go hand in hand. It's non-alcoholic though... (laughs) I ordered the grilled eel set meal (pine) for 2600 yen, which came with salad, grilled eel, rice (refillable), eel liver soup, and pickles. I also ordered chawanmushi for 400 yen and pickles for 550 yen. The pickles had a slightly strong vinegar taste. The grilled eel used a whole eel, and although it was a bit firmer than yesterday's eel, the sauce wasn't too sweet, so it was quite good. Personally, I prefer something in between this place and the eel from the M shop in Yanagawa. The slightly firm chawanmushi and the soup were also delicious. Despite having eel two days in a row, I finished my meal without any heartburn today. Thank you for the meal.
