The noodles were good, with a nice texture when boiled, but the sauce was just average (lol). I was hoping for more flavor to enhance the cold noodles! It has a good amount of sweetness but unlike matcha, it has a toasty flavor that I really liked. Of course, the pork buns and other items were delicious as well. I was about to pass by, but I noticed a red sign advertising a special promotion for chimaki (rice dumplings) and couldn't resist checking it out. Normally priced at 380 yen each, you could get 3 for 1000 yen. It's a deal they occasionally offer, so keep an eye out for it. I chose three different types: pork bun (4 pieces for 840 yen), dumplings (10 pieces for 360 yen), and a set of 3 chimaki for 1000 yen (pork, chestnut, and seafood flavors). The shumai taste similar to the pork buns (lol) but are slightly larger in size, which I like. Surprisingly, the dumplings are also delicious. Despite the tempting smell, I took them home on the train. It's a bit tough that they only accept cash in this day and age.

On the second day of the new year every year, I watched the Hakone Ekiden on TV and then traveled to my family-in-law's house by Nankai train. Three families gather together, so I brought back 551 as a souvenir. The shrine visitors at Sumiyoshi Taisha were about 30% less than last year. It was nice that the train was not crowded.

This is a store located next to the ticket gate on the Koya Line side of Nankai Namba Station. The red sign is so eye-catching that you can't help but be drawn in (laughs). They sell pork buns in packs of 3, with the red pack for even numbers and the white pack for odd numbers. The sweet skin and sweet filling go well together and are really delicious! For a limited time, they also included ponzu in addition to mustard. You can choose what to add, some people eat it with sauce but I prefer just mustard. However, the ponzu was also enjoyable for a change in flavor. It was delicious. My only complaint is that it would be nice if they accepted credit cards or other forms of payment besides cash.

Every year on January 2nd, I always make it a point to visit my family's home. For the past 30 years, I have been doing this tradition. In recent years, I have avoided visiting by car and instead used the Nankai Electric Railway. Near the north exit of the 3rd floor of Nankai Namba Station, there is a place called "Hourai." On this day, there was a line of about 10 people. I bought 10 pork buns and 20 dumplings to take out. It takes courage to buy these and get on the train (laughs). After a 30-minute train ride, spreading the smell around, I returned home and went to bed feeling a bit tipsy from the New Year's greetings. The next day, while watching the Hakone Ekiden relay, I have made it a habit in recent years to eat the pork buns and dumplings I bought as souvenirs for lunch. Even though I have no appetite due to a hangover, the soul food of Kansai people, the pork buns, always remain. Congratulations to Aoyama Gakuin for breaking the record and winning the championship. After eating, we headed to Namba and my husband and I walked for 4 hours. I haven't started running at all this year yet. There were 7 varieties, and I was recommended to try the seasonal limited mixed juice, so I bought it right away for 130 yen. The crunchy texture and surprisingly refreshing taste of the mixed juice were delicious, and although it's impolite, I enjoyed it while walking down Otaku Road. Later that night, when I mentioned to my friend Abe Kori (Kyoka Yasube) during her live stream that I had tried the 551 ice candies, being the foodie she is, she was immediately interested in hearing about it.

Although I prefer Gari Gari-kun from the convenience store in terms of taste, I will continue to enjoy ice candies like 551 and Arctic that have been a part of Minami for a long time. It was early evening but I had to line up because it was getting hot and more people were looking for ice candy. I got the 6-pack and that's dinner sorted for tonight - pork buns + bamboo skewers + something extra. I had eaten too much in Tokushima, so this is perfect. Even when taken home, the warm pork buns were delicious. But I feel like they've gotten a bit smaller recently.

Some people might think, 'It's not autumn yet,' or 'It doesn't feel like the right season,' but personally, I think the good taste and affordable price are attractive, so I don't really mind. If you're interested, I recommend visiting 551 before June."

I have always wanted to try the 551 meat buns. I had only seen them on TV before (lol). It's one of the things I wanted to eat in Osaka. I was looking forward to it with this move. Bunker really loves having highballs with this shrimp shumai. You can enjoy it with vinegar soy sauce, medium-thick sauce, black pepper, onion dressing, and various other sauces. Ah, delicious! I always thought you could only buy pork buns in even numbers, but I heard you can buy them in odd numbers too, so I asked, "Is it okay to get three pork buns?" They said it was fine, even though it would be in a simple container. I bought three pork buns and some dumplings. The pork buns came in a cute white box. They were delicious as always. This time, the bamboo leaf (which they call a cushion) stuck to the back of the pork buns seemed to have been changed to a very thin one. But the taste was still delicious as ever.

Imamiya Ebisu Shrine is a popular spot for lunch after Tenjin Matsuri. I wanted to go to 551 Horai Honten or Ganko Sushi (Namba Honten) for some of Osaka's famous soul food, but due to time constraints, I opted for takeout near Namba Station. Of course, I ordered a pork bun! I've received them as souvenirs before, but I couldn't resist having one fresh on the spot. The pork bun costs ¥170 each, tax included. When freshly made, the skin is soft and chewy, and the filling has a slight sweetness from the pork fat. There are about 7 stores near Namba Station alone, and maybe around 100 in Osaka overall? Surprisingly, they don't have any stores in Tokyo. I remember buying meat buns at Kagurazaka 50 for ¥393 each, but being able to enjoy 551's for less than half the price is impressive. By the way, the meatballs I bought along with the pork buns (10 for ¥300) were too sweet with vinegar, more like a snack.
