Established in 1930 with its main store in Ginza, Tokyo, this long-standing tempura restaurant has expanded to various locations across the country. I visited the branch on the 7th floor of Iwataya in Fukuoka Tenjin, which was not too crowded as it was past the lunch rush at 1:30 pm. I had planned to order the "Tenichi Gozen" lunch set, but it was already sold out due to its popularity. Instead, I decided to go with the "Tempura Zen" set for 2052 yen, which included tempura, chawanmushi, red miso soup, salad, rice, and pickles. The tempura was crispy and delicious, with a variety of items like shrimp, fish, pumpkin, snow peas, eggplant, and small shrimp tempura. The chawanmushi was light and included small shrimp, ginkgo nuts, and sliced shiitake mushrooms. The tempura dipping sauce was flavorful, and I appreciated the generous amount of grated daikon radish. The vegetable salad was average, but the rice was shiny and tasty. The red miso soup had clams in it, adding a nice touch. Overall, I felt that the quality of the tempura was worth the price, although there are other popular tempura restaurants in Fukuoka that offer similar quality for under 1000 yen. Being located in a department store, this restaurant is convenient for a meal during shopping.
