"I thought the contrast of colors, the taste might be good too." That's what I thought about the matcha and sakura donuts this time. Every year, Mister Donut holds a fair called [misdo meets Gion Tsujiri], where they offer limited edition products using the highest grade Uji matcha from Gion Tsujiri. And on this day in March 2021, I found the first installment of this fair at this store, themed [color] and combining sakura and matcha. There were 5 types of donuts available this time, but due to limited stock of ingredients, it seemed to be limited in quantity, with restrictions on purchase time and the number of items you could buy at once. I was undecided on which one to choose, but on this day, along with one of my personal favorites, the classic "Coconut Chocolate," I took out 3 items from this fair menu.
- Sakura Mochi Donut: A "Pon de Ring" style donut with a chewy mochi-like texture coated in white chocolate and sakura bean paste glaze, finished with Uji matcha chocolate. The matcha served as an accent both visually and in taste, with sakura being the main focus.
- Warabi Mochi Sakura Bean & Uji Matcha Whip: A fluffy sakura-flavored yeast doughnut filled with sakura bean paste, sakura and matcha whip, and warabi mochi, topped with chocolate. It was similar to a typical red bean donut, but with the addition of sakura and matcha flavors, as well as the unique texture of warabi mochi, making it a distinctive treat.
This fair is scheduled to run until mid-April, but as mentioned earlier, there are restrictions on sales time and quantity, so there is a possibility of items selling out before the deadline. For those who enjoy sakura or matcha flavors, or for those who are curious, I recommend visiting your nearest Mister Donut soon."
