I came to the Kaiyukan aquarium!!! I've wanted to come here for a while, so I'm finally here. It's the largest aquarium? or something like that, and you can get there with a short walk from the subway. It was the highest quality aquarium I've ever seen. So impressive. First of all, there are so many different types of fish, and the animals are quite active!!!! I always thought they were mostly sleeping, but they were all swimming around energetically, so it was really enjoyable. The way the plants and rocks were arranged was close to their original ecosystem, and the size of the rooms was well maintained, creating an environment where the animals seemed comfortable and lively, which made me think that's why we can see such lively animals. The design seems to be considerate of both the viewers and the animals. Also, for some reason, birds and such were quite serviceable? They were sticking to the windows making it easy to see and take photos. I wonder if there's some special effort put into that. The sea lion and seal show? was happening behind the glass the whole time, I wonder if this is always the case. There was no information about the showtimes, but maybe I was lucky. The spotted seals were super cute... The aquarium is divided into themes (like the Arctic or Savannah), and as you go down from the top, you can see a variety of large whale sharks and different fish while walking around, which is really amazing. It makes you feel like you're in the ocean. The whale sharks were so big that I thought they were 3D or from a movie world. The scene in front of me didn't feel real at all. (laughs) It's magnificent. There were also many rare fish that I had never seen before. There are chairs scattered around, so you can relax and watch the fish while chatting or just being healed. There were a lot of people having deep conversations (laughs). So, on the way back, I decided to buy the Jinbei Soft. It's a ramune flavor. There's something crunchy (arazan?) on it. Well, I didn't really need it at all. It looks cute, though. I'm glad I came, thanks for the meal!

I tried the Jinbe Soft, inspired by the ace of the aquarium, the whale shark. I made a mistake in taking a picture, but it was a mix of soda and cream with ramune sprinkled on top. It was quite delicious, despite the theme park prices, and the soda was refreshing for my tired body after visiting the aquarium.

On a day off, I happened to go to the aquarium with my relatives. Even on a weekday, it was crowded with school groups and many other visitors! I was surprised by the variety of souvenirs available. I was able to feel like a child again and refresh myself a little!

I visited in 2015~ Currently updating past logs (*´∇`) Seeing is believing (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)ンマ((°艸° *) Aquariums are nice, they are healing, and the smell doesn't bother me. Since I came all the way here, I bought some snacks (^ー^) I have the utmost respect for all the ingredients I have encountered, thank you for the meal ☺️

Stuffed animals are surprisingly affordable, but it's honestly unsettling that there are only foreigners. Whether it's the foreigners' manners or the cleanliness of the stores, the food court feels dirty somehow.

It's a cafe inside the aquarium, a bit of a different location but still worth visiting. I recommend trying the Jinbe Soft serve, it was delicious with a ramune flavor. Since the area near the cafe can be quite cold, it might be a good idea to order something warm as well.

It was a fun parent-child meetup. I received a souvenir from Myrebi-san who visited Osaka, which was bought at the "Kaiyukan Official Museum Shop". It's called "Hime Katsuo Stick", made from bonito fish from Tosashimizu. It's a stick-shaped delicacy made by seasoning bonito with soy sauce, sugar, and mirin and grilling it. It's delicious on its own, but best enjoyed with alcohol. It can also be eaten with dishes like ochazuke or cold tofu, as suggested on the back of the package. Unfortunately, my bonito-loving son ate all of it, so I didn't get to savor it fully. It's a nice change from the usual sweet souvenirs. I would like to visit Kaiyukan myself next time to purchase more of these.

In March 2017, I went to Tempozan to play Pokémon GO. Tempozan area is known for having rare Pokémon spawns, so there were a lot of trainers gathered there. After playing Pokémon GO for a while, I decided to check out the Kaiyukan aquarium for some foodie inspiration. I was particularly interested in seeing the giant isopod more than the whale sharks and manta rays. After exploring the aquarium and taking a break at the "Mermaid" on the 4th floor, I headed towards the exit. Before leaving, I stopped by the Kaiyukan Official Museum Shop on the 2nd floor of the entrance building. I bought a pack of "Hime Katsuo Stick" made by Tosashoku Co., Ltd. in Tosashimizu City, Kochi Prefecture, which is the hometown of the whale shark. The Hime Katsuo Stick is a delicacy made using the traditional method of making katsuobushi in Tosashimizu, carefully grilled over high heat. It is seasoned just right and can be enjoyed as a snack, topping for salad, cold tofu, ochazuke, and more. I brought it home and tried it immediately. The soy sauce-flavored bonito flakes were delicious and had a soft texture, making it easy to eat. I enjoyed it as a snack, but I think it would also taste great as a topping for salads as mentioned in the description. Bon appétit!

On March 4, 2017, I went to Osaka Tempozan with a friend who is obsessed with Pokémon GO, where a large number of rare Pokémon were appearing. First, we visited the "Kaiyukan" aquarium for the first time in 20 years and encountered huge whale sharks and cute penguins. We took a break at the cafe on the 4th floor, where I had a cappuccino with a penguin design. Then, we headed to the "Kaiyukan Official Museum Shop" on the 2nd floor of the entrance building. They had a variety of merchandise featuring sea creatures and nature, including stationery, tableware, plush toys, and snacks. I bought the "Kaiyukan Printed Manju" which contained 9 small manju with prints of popular whale sharks, seals, and dolphins from Kaiyukan. The filling was sweet red bean paste, but the outer dough was a bit dry, possibly due to being made a while ago. I wish it was a bit moister. They were also selling whale shark plush toys at the store, which might have been a better souvenir from Kaiyukan. Next, let's visit the drink stand next door! Enjoy your meal!

I thought that an aquarium without whale sharks would be like takoyaki without octopus, but I was able to touch sharks and even otters were cute. The aquarium has evolved a lot in the past 8 years. Souvenirs like whale sharks, otters, and penguins seem to be popular. It was my first time seeing a sea turtle, maybe because I have a pet turtle at home, I feel attached to turtles. The cookies had soft chocolate inside and a crispy cookie outside, so they were delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I went to the aquarium at the end of March (p≧ᴗ≦q)~♪♫ It's been a few years, so I was happy to visit the aquarium again (❀´꒳`❀)/● Admission fee for the aquarium: 2300 yen (adult). They have made some improvements in the way they present things compared to when I last visited a few years ago~ゞ(≧ω≦)ゞ There is only one whale shark now, but it was still elegant (Pq’v`◆) I bought a towel and chocolate with a whale shark design at the souvenir shop~(*≧ω≦*)■ Color print chocolate: 361 yen. The chocolate is just like regular cheap candy~ヾ(^꒳^✿) It is colorful with cute animal illustrations~(ฅ'ω'ฅ)♪ It disappears quickly when you start snacking on it~(σ≧ω≦)σ~✿ It was a cute chocolate (๑◕u◕๑)♬♪ I got the souvenirs inside the aquarium~v(*'-^*)-☆ Just for your reference about souvenirs (๑´꒳`๑)ノReference: http://ameblo.jp/cicici0/entry-11817464861.html

I went to Osaka where they have Jinbei-zame (whale shark) and received souvenirs. I visited various places like Universal Studios Japan and an aquarium. The souvenir from the aquarium was not related to whale sharks at all. The butter flavor was not good, too sweet and unpleasant. The chocolate one was better, crispy and delicious.

Memo) I received a souvenir (・Θ・) It seems like they made traditional Japanese sweets easier to eat in a Western style. I'm not a fan of the unique cinnamon scent of Yatsuhashi, but the chocolate inside helped to balance it out and made it easier to eat.

The footprints everywhere squad (souvenir edition) (named by bankara) My son also likes zoos, but he also likes aquariums, so at his request, we took a ferry to the "Kaiyukan" on the opposite side of USJ. This aquarium is designed so that you go up to the top of the building (tank) all at once and then come down the spiral path. It's quite confusing because you look at the tanks on the wall as "top, middle, bottom" on the way. And although the remaining distance is written on the floor, it seemed like torture to my son who was tired from walking yesterday. Strollers are not allowed (although some mainlanders managed to sneak them in), and little kids get tired of walking about halfway through... Most of the people around were Chinese, maybe because a cruise ship had arrived at the pier that day? Well... let's stop writing about that. (>ε<) The Osaka obachans are similar... let's stop writing about that too. (>ε<) And the main tank with the whale sharks is at the end... isn't there a better way to show it? Is it because of the limited space? And of course, we had to peek into the souvenir shop. It's inevitable that there are only sweet things lined up... Oh? Look at this. "Hime Katsuo Stick." Why is it from Ashizuri Cape? The fish that come to the Kaiyukan are caught near Ashizuri Cape, raised, and then transported. I wonder if this also applies to the whale sharks? This is made by boiling and grilling the "Muneta Katsuo," which is usually made into bonito flakes. It's similar to "tuna" in texture, closer to dry. The more you chew, the more umami comes out, which makes sense since it becomes bonito flakes. A drink is a must.
