For lunch during a trip, we chose a soba restaurant located right next to Biei Senka. The exterior and interior of the restaurant don't look like a typical soba place, but the soba served here is quite authentic. The noodles are thin but firm. I ordered the Vegetable Curry Soba (large size for 1,375 yen) and my companion chose the Maitake Mushroom Tempura Soba (1,280 yen). Even though I usually don't prefer warm soba, I was quite satisfied with the flavorful curry broth and ended up finishing it all. I thought the portion of the zaru soba with maitake tempura could have been a bit more generous, but overall, it was a satisfying dining experience.

Goma Soba Tsurugi, located along Route 237 in Biei, is a popular restaurant even around 2 pm when normal lunch hours are ending. It seems to be a chain restaurant from Asahikawa City. There was a 20-minute wait, but the menu samples in the showcase made it easy to decide what to order. Inside the restaurant, there is a large cactus in the middle, giving it a surreal vibe. I ordered the Natto Soba without grated radish, which was easy to eat with its thin and smooth noodles. It came with a refreshing touch of pink grapefruit, which was a nice addition. The Mini Ikura Don was flavorful with a generous amount of salmon roe. The Summer Vegetable Bukkake Soba was delicious with plenty of vegetables. The Legendary Hop SORACHI 1984 was served in a chilled glass, which was a nice touch. They also accept credit card payments at the restaurant. Overall, it was a great dining experience.

This is a soba restaurant located along Route 237 in Biei. It is next to "Biei Sengaku" fruit store. It has been about 7-8 years since my last visit. I had forgotten the atmosphere inside, but for a soba restaurant, the tables and chairs are quite modern. The large windows provide a beautiful view of the snow-covered trees in winter, creating a nice atmosphere. The background music on this day was Western music, fitting for a place in Biei. The menu offers a variety of set meals. I ordered the "Natto Soba with Mini Ikura Don" (1,670 yen). It was served in about 7-8 minutes. The natto soba had thin noodles called "goma soba" with a nice aroma and good texture. The combination of natto, egg yolk, and grated daikon radish went well with the soba, and the slightly spicy dipping sauce was also good. The soba water seemed to be kettle-boiled. The mini ikura don consisted of soy sauce-marinated plump ikura, which was delicious. I was satisfied with the meal! After eating, there was self-service coffee available, which was surprisingly tasty. The menu has a wide variety, and although it is a soba restaurant, the tonkatsu is also popular, making it a place where you can enjoy a variety of dishes!

After enjoying a mixed tempura platter and beer, I tried the limited-time spring dish of pork and cabbage dipping soba. The tempura was crispy and delicious, a very nice touch. The main dish of pork and cabbage dipping soba had a smooth warm broth with sakura shrimp, which paired well with the cold soba noodles, making it quite tasty. I recommend adding a little chili oil to make it spicy. There were many families dining, and the staff was attentive. I underestimated this roadside restaurant, but it turned out to be quite a good place.

On my way to Furano for errands, I stopped by here because I was hungry. It was my first visit to Goma Soba Tsuruki in Biei. Since it was cold, I chose the Kama-age soba for 1100 yen. The soba was very delicious. The tempura was crispy and the pumpkin was soft and tasty. I would like to try the cold soba next time. Thank you for the meal!

I came to Biei for work today and stopped by here for a late lunch. I ordered the Jidori soba in large serving. The broth comes in a small pitcher but it wasn't enough, so I tried to ask for more by handing over the empty pitcher. However, the staff said, "Please wait a moment!" and brought out a new pitcher. Thank you so much! The soba was a bit different from my preference though...

Today's lunch was sesame soba at Tsurugi-san for 750 yen. On hot days, cold soba is good, so I chose the large mori soba. It was served in about 10 minutes. It was crowded during lunchtime. The soba had a smooth texture and a strong buckwheat flavor. The set menu is a bit pricey, but if it's delicious, then it's okay.

Around 11:30 on Saturday, it was still early with only two groups of customers already there. More people started coming in later. I was a bit indecisive, but I ended up choosing the light and refreshing Nameko Oroshi Soba for 946 yen. It arrived in about 5-6 minutes. The noodles were thin with sesame seeds kneaded into them, giving a grainy texture. The seaweed was triangular, which was interesting. Topped with nameko mushrooms, grated daikon radish, bonito flakes, and poured with broth, it was a refreshing dish. I didn't want to eat too much today, so this was just right. Thank you for the meal.

I visited the restaurant after a long time. Unfortunately, my favorite restaurant was closed for the day. So, I decided to try out Tsurugai-san since there were fewer tourists around. I ordered the "Grated Daikon Soba with Mini Tempura Rice Bowl Set" for 1280 yen. The meal looked appetizing and the soba noodles were smooth and easy to eat. The tempura in the rice bowl was crispy, but the rice was a bit soft for my liking. Overall, I found the meal satisfying considering the price.

I stopped by after swimming at the Waiwai Pool in Biei-cho for the first time in a few months for a meal. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, I haven't been eating out much. I entered the restaurant wearing a mask and sanitized my hands with alcohol before sitting down. There were two older couples already inside. I sat at a table by the window, away from them. I quickly decided on my order - "I'll have the shimeji mushroom tempura seiro and croquettes, please." Since I had been swimming for about an hour and a half, I was a bit cold. So, I decided to start with the complimentary coffee that comes with the meal. It was a bit tangy and delicious. I felt relieved... After about 4-5 minutes, before finishing my coffee, the croquettes arrived! I quickly poured the sauce and enjoyed the crispy texture. Then, the shimeji mushroom tempura and sesame soba appeared! The aroma of the shimeji mushrooms was delightful! I dipped them in the green tea salt and enjoyed the crispy texture. I couldn't help but smile. The thin sesame soba here has a great smoothness that feels good in the mouth and throat. Delicious, so delicious. And at one point, they brought me some soba broth, but I prefer to drink the dipping sauce as is. Especially after swimming in the pool. I had a refill of water, but I might prefer drinking the dipping sauce diluted with soba broth. I enjoyed my meal today as well. Thank you for the feast. Oh, a couple just walked in. And one more person...

It was a little early for the end of the year, but I decided to go eat soba on a Sunday and came here. It was around lunchtime and there weren't many customers, maybe because of COVID. I looked through the menu carefully, even though I already knew what I wanted (lol). I ordered the onigiri set with katsuobushi inside. I enjoyed the smooth thin noodles, then took a bite of the onigiri and dipped it in the broth. The combination of saltiness and acidity in the broth was the perfect way to end the year (lol). I feel like trying the mori soba with extra noodles next time. I just really love soba. Thank you for the meal.

I had tempura soba at a chain soba restaurant in Asahikawa City. It's one of the better places in Biei. I ordered the tempura soba for 1150 yen. Both the tempura and soba tasted average this time. The soba broth at the end warmed me up. They also have a variety of menu items like katsu-don, making it a family-friendly restaurant.

I have visited this place many times, so I'll keep it simple. Due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection, restaurants are struggling as people are refraining from going out. Some restaurants are trying to overcome this crisis by offering takeout services, but it's not easy for soba and ramen shops. So, I decided to eat and show my support! I was torn between going here or to the neighboring Yamatogawa, but I felt like having cold soba this time, so I chose this place. They had "Aosa Nori Soba" written at the entrance, which made me hesitate as I wanted to have something cold. However, I stuck to my initial decision and ordered the grated radish soba in a large size with a mini tendon set. I could have chosen katsu, but since the soba came with grated radish, I passed on it this time. While waiting, I helped myself to the self-serve coffee. The food arrived in less than 10 minutes. As always, the taste of Tsuruki was consistent. The dipping sauce was just to my liking, with a nice salty flavor. It's great to have bukkake soba during times like these. The tempura in the tendon was crispy and satisfying. And today, the soba-yu had a nice thickness to it. With a full stomach, I headed back home. It's Sunday, so I indulged in a full-belly nap. Hopefully, things will settle down soon.

I visited for the first time and had a late lunch, almost dinner time. I found the Mochi Nioroshi Soba on the menu and decided to try it. I added Sakura shrimp as a topping. The soba was sesame-based with thin noodles and crispy fried mochi. It also had vegetables like carrots and burdock, which seemed healthy. However, I was disappointed by the small amount of shrimp for the additional 100 yen. Maybe it was enough for a light meal, but I expected more for the price.

On 19/11/19, I had "Nabe Yaki Udon" for lunch in Biei Town during a business trip. I visited Biei Town for a new product presentation, but my first choice for lunch was unexpectedly closed. I gave up on finding a new place and ended up here. The weather in the northern region was getting colder. When I saw the menu, I suddenly craved for Nabe Yaki Udon. However, the Nabe Yaki Udon that came out was just Tempura Udon in a different bowl. The taste was neither good nor bad. And it cost 990 yen... I should have just eaten soba at a soba restaurant.

It's late at night, so I'll have a light meal of soba. I'll eat it quickly. I used to order Kogane soba a lot when Tsuruki was at Sanroku. The combination of mochi and shrimp tempura is really good. It's nice that it comes out quickly. The thin sesame soba (even though it doesn't have a sesame scent) goes down smoothly. The shrimp tempura is crispy and fragrant, and the mochi is easy to eat with a cut in it. I can't remember if this was my first time eating here or if I've been here a few times, but I really like how light it is. I ordered a large portion and the dipping sauce was surprisingly generous, but maybe the soba portion increased too (lol).

I visited during the day on a regular day. The restaurant was very busy. The shop, made of wood, has good natural light coming in, making it bright and open. This time, I ordered the Biei Tonkatsu Gozen. The meat itself was good, and the fat was delicious. I believe that the deliciousness of the fat is important when it comes to pork ^^; I would be even happier if the meat was a little thicker. The soba was decent, but when you eat the tonkatsu first, the strong taste of the tonkatsu overpowers the flavor of the soba. The soba soup I had at the end was refreshing and nice. They have a variety of set menus here. However, for older customers, the portion sizes may be too big, so it would be nice if they had more affordable single items. They also accept card payments. I'm full, thank you for the meal!

At night, I often find myself stopping by Tsuruyoshi. I was craving cold soba, so I decided to come here. However, it was a bit early for a full meal, so I opted for the Katsu-Don set for a change. The set includes tonkatsu and rice, along with salad, miso soup, all for 1,380 yen. But I still wanted more, so I added a mini cold soba for an additional 280 yen. The mini soba was served separately from the dipping sauce, which I appreciated. The tonkatsu was cooked on a Hida Konro, giving it a nice sizzling sound and keeping it piping hot. The katsu and egg mixture was topped with onions that were still crunchy, which I personally enjoyed. The sauce was light, making it suitable for those who prefer to enjoy the flavors separately rather than mixed in with the rice. Despite being a soba restaurant, the menu here is a bit unique with limited options for typical rice bowl dishes, so I often opt for the more unique sets.

I went there because I had wanted to try it for a while. The food was served shortly after ordering. The tempura is served on a separate plate, not on top of the soba noodles. It also comes with matcha salt, which adds an extra delicious touch. You can either sprinkle the matcha salt on the tempura and eat it with the soba, or place the tempura on top of the soba and mix it with the dipping sauce. Both ways taste great. The dipping sauce has a strong dashi flavor and a hint of acidity, which makes it refreshing. It was a delightful meal.

Tsukiyoshi is not a place that I visit often, but they stay open relatively late compared to other places in the area, so I come here occasionally. On this day, it was cold and windy, so I was in the mood to warm up. I decided to stop by after a long time. The blackboard at the entrance listed the tonkatsu set meal made with Biei pork as the number one popular dish. I didn't feel like thinking about the menu, so I went with the popular choice and ordered the tonkatsu set meal. For the soba, you can choose between hot ankake kakiage soba or cold tororo soba, and of course, during this season, I chose the kakiage soba. The popular menu arrived quite quickly. The tonkatsu was served on a stylish white plate, accompanied by locally grown onions and carrots. The ginger in the ankake sauce was a perfect match. The separate plate of green onions was a nice touch that is typical of Tsukiyoshi. The soba was warm and thinly sliced. Personally, I think slightly thicker noodles would be better, but this thickness is perfect for the cold soba. It warmed me up, so I have no complaints. The tonkatsu was just right in thickness, fat content, and flavor. The rice portion was a bit small compared to the bowl, but it seems like the staff knew I was on a diet (laughs). Tsukiyoshi often offers 10% or 20% off coupons with a short expiration date, so the price of 1,260 yen + tax was actually a bit more affordable. I haven't been able to go to the Suehiro branch recently, but the menu here is really good.
