旅浪漫
Established in 1947 in Fuse, Higashi Osaka, "Genroku" started as a small Japanese restaurant. Later, it switched to a standing sushi bar, offering high-quality nigiri sushi at affordable prices, which led to great success. Facing a shortage of staff, one day the owner visited a beer factory and was inspired by the conveyor belt carrying beer. After 10 years of trial and error, the "Conveyor Revolving Dining Table" was developed, and in 1958, the first Genroku Sushi restaurant was opened in Fuse. In 1960, a branch was opened in Dotonbori, followed by one in Umeda in 1962. Participating in the 1970 Japan World Exposition brought nationwide recognition. Genroku Sushi is a pioneer of conveyor belt sushi, with locations all over Japan and even worldwide. I recently visited the Genroku Sushi in the heart of Minami, Dotonbori. The interior had been renovated and looked clean, though the counter seating space was still a bit cramped. Nonetheless, the affordable price of 130 yen per plate attracts not only Japanese but also tourists from China and Southeast Asia. Today, my wife and I decided to eat to our heart's content without worrying about the price. We enjoyed a variety of sushi, including tuna, yellowtail, salmon, sweet shrimp, salmon roe, squid, eel, crab miso, and more. The standout was the fugu sushi, a seasonal delicacy, which was surprisingly priced at 130 yen for two pieces. Other seasonal items like Bungo amberjack, cod milt, and ankimo were also excellent value. Among the dishes I tried, the beef tendon stew, seared conger eel, Bungo amberjack, premium tuna, fugu, and fugu skin stood out for their quality at such a low price. The variety and quality of the sushi here surpass the 100-yen conveyor belt sushi chains, and the craftsmanship of the chefs is evident in every bite. I indulged in 20 plates, while my wife had 11, and despite being a budget sushi joint, we couldn't resist the temptation. Weekends can be crowded, but the turnover of customers is quick, so you won't have to wait long to be seated. Enjoy your meal!
