不明(ふめい)
I visited a Japanese restaurant on the 9th floor of Takashimaya Osaka for lunch on a Sunday. I ordered the kaiseki course "Izutsu" for 10,800 yen. The dishes I received were as follows:
1. Appetizer: A dish of red clam, trumpet shell, and spring onion mixed with spicy vinegar miso. It was easy to eat with the ingredients finely chopped, and it seemed to have some kind of clam liver in it.
2. Simmered dish: A clear soup with clam, yam, rapeseed blossoms, and seaweed. The yam had finely chopped clam meat inside, with a soft texture and a refreshing aroma of yuzu.
3. Sashimi: Tuna, sea bream, and squid with wasabi, shiso buds, shiso leaves, carrot, seaweed in agar jelly. The presentation was impressive, but the sashimi itself was of average freshness.
4. Appetizer plate: A colorful dish with edamame, squid ink, rolled omelette, konjac, fish cake, squid with sea urchin, and smoked salmon. It had a mix of items that may or may not pair well with sake or beer.
5. Grilled dish: Grilled thread-sail filefish with ginkgo nuts, shredded ginger, and ponzu sauce. The thread-sail filefish had a tender texture and rich flavor, making it a satisfying dish.
6. Simmered dish: Simmered dish with young sardines, tofu skin, radish, carrot, and wood sorrel. The radish and tofu skin absorbed the flavors well, creating a rich taste.
7. Seasonal rice, red miso soup, pickles: A crab porridge with ginger and green onions, and pickles. The porridge had a delicious crab flavor throughout.
8. Dessert: Melon, strawberry, and mango with mint leaves. A perfect way to end the meal.
Overall, the food quality was high, and the ambiance was nice. However, the level of service did not match the price, as there was minimal interaction and explanation from the staff. It felt like they were too busy with closing preparations to provide attentive service.
