When using the JR limited express from Sapporo, I always reach for this bento box. I have never cheated on it with other station bentos. It is a historic item with a consistent taste. It's not incredibly delicious, so you don't get tired of eating it. It's a flavor that everyone likes, just as you would imagine a station bento to be. This is good enough. When paired with Sapporo Classic beer, it puts you in a good mood from early in the morning! Station bentos have really become expensive. Please continue to stay the same without any unnecessary decorations. I will continue to rely on this in the future.

Today's review is about the shops located inside the JR Sapporo Station. Due to the extension construction of the Shinkansen line at Sapporo Station, many kiosks have closed down. How many shops are currently operating inside the ticket gates? There are only two shops, and the one straight from the west ticket gate offers a great selection of bento boxes. As for the bento specialty shop, there used to be quite a few operating inside the station, but how many are currently open? Well, I live two stations away from Sapporo Station, so why am I buying bento boxes here? Just to have as a side dish for drinking at home (laughs). You can't finish a bento box in just a 7-minute train ride. The "Three Sacred Treasures" at Benzaitei consists of tamagoyaki, kamaboko, and grilled fish. The main highlight is the grilled salmon, which is fatty and delicious. The tamagoyaki here is big and tasty, unlike the expensive 6-pack of akatama eggs you find at supermarkets. The fried kamaboko is, well... (laughs). There are also fuki, shiitake mushrooms, ganko, carrots, and some sakura-shaped thing (laughs). Small pieces of fried chicken, pickled red turnip, and for some reason, edamame paired with simmered scallops. Why is that? The grilled salmon has the perfect amount of salt. To enjoy with shochu, start by eating the rice topped with seaweed. Yes, the Three Sacred Treasures go well with shochu. By the way, I prefer to drink chilled 25% soba shochu Unkai straight. Ah, that was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

While I was browsing through Instagram, I saw some delicious-looking mochi and found out that it was a limited-time offer for Yanagi Mochi. I didn't even know they sold mochi in the first place... It looks similar to Akafuku and since I love Zunda, I was really intrigued! I thought I could go anytime, so I went on a Saturday afternoon without thinking, but they were sold out. I ended up going on Sunday morning just to buy some mochi, taking a walk with no particular destination in mind. The exterior of the store is seen in various locations within Sapporo Station, but I bought it from the store outside the ticket gate. The seasonal limited edition Yanagi Mochi with smooth sweet red bean paste is quite smooth and not too sweet, similar to Akafuku's red bean paste. It uses Hakuchou Mochi, and when I ate it around noon, it was soft and chewy. I think the texture of the mochi is firmer in Akafuku. The Zunda is roughly crushed, leaving a bean-like texture and just the right amount of sweetness. This is so delicious...!!! Despite its long history, I had no idea about this at all...! No, this is delicious...! I often visit traditional Japanese sweet shops, but this was so tasty that I finished a whole box in one go. The balance of 4 pieces x 2 types was just right. They also have cherry blossom flavors in spring... I hope they expand their variety even more...!

I arrived early in the vicinity of Sapporo Station with the idea of buying a variety of bento boxes instead of buying the same one for everyone. First, I looked for station bento boxes with a travel vibe on JR, and bought a bento box with snow crab and hanasaki crab. Since it was past 10 o'clock, I moved to Daimaru Sapporo Store. When I entered, the crowd was just unbelievable. The famous bento boxes had long lines. I looked for a less crowded shop, but the bento boxes there were not very appealing. However, if I waited in line, I would go over the meeting time. I hurried out of Daimaru and went back to the east concourse, where I found a unique bento shop that was not crowded, and bought a few. I was a bit careless. I got on the crowded JR and arrived right on time. Phew. The Hokkaido-style bento boxes were delicious! Thank you for the meal~!

I purchased this Makunouchi bento box a few times before boarding the limited express Hokuto heading to Hakodate from Sapporo. The balance of ingredients is perfect as a side dish for beer, and the rice is delicious! I have become a repeat customer because of this. In particular, the salmon with just the right amount of salt, and the tempura squid with soy sauce drizzled on top, are amazing. They go well with both rice and beer!

From New Chitose Airport to Sapporo Station for now. I am heading to the grave where my mother-in-law's remains will be placed. I had a beer on the plane <(_ _)>. I'm sorry, mom. But you closed your eyes to me drinking towards the end, didn't you? In Sapporo Station, my hungry husband bought a "Three Treasures Bento" here. When you think of the Three Treasures, you might think of a washing machine, refrigerator, and TV, but here it's grilled fish, fish cake, and rolled omelette. My husband enjoyed it on a bench at the station, it looked very delicious. I wasn't very hungry, so I got an onigiri elsewhere. I held the bag with the bones firmly on my side. This onigiri was spicy and made me tear up.

I have completed all the itineraries of my trip to Hokkaido and have returned home. It was a fun trip, but it is essential to have a proper ending to a trip once you return home. So, let's wrap up the trip. Sapporo Station offers a variety of ekiben (train station bento boxes). One of the shops selling ekiben is called Bentai-Tei. They not only offer ekiben but also soba noodles, and I often rely on them at Sapporo Station. This time, I purchased the seasonal limited menu, the Summer Festival Bento (1000 yen). I bought it at the ekiben shop inside Sapporo Station and enjoyed it at home. The Summer Festival Bento is a collection of Hokkaido's summer specialties. It mainly consists of chirashi sushi with various side dishes surrounding it, making it a luxurious ekiben. The Hokkaido beef shabu-shabu is seasoned beef with seaweed in a ponzu sauce, giving it a refreshing taste. The grilled salmon with teriyaki sauce has a moderate saltiness and is a good accompaniment for drinks. The egg omelet with green onions is on the sweeter side with a subtle taste of green onions, providing an elegant flavor. The grilled corn tempura is a slightly oily tempura with the sweetness of corn, which is not bad. The chirashi sushi includes crab meat, salmon roe, and shredded egg on top of vinegared rice. It may not be very striking, but it has a subtle umami flavor, which is also good. It's nice to have a variety of ingredients in small portions to try different flavors. It's a shame that it's a seasonal limited menu, but if there are other seasonal limited menus available, I would like to try them.

I went to Sapporo Station to buy a bento, and chose "Benseitei," which holds a special place in my heart. I lived in Sapporo until 2017, but was suddenly called back to Asahikawa and never got to eat what I had planned to next. One of those things was the Benseitei Ekiben (Ishikari) for 850 yen. I bought it. It includes scallops, two types of fried squid, salmon, kelp, sukiyaki, fish cake, tamagoyaki, kinpira, simmered beans, and pickles, a mix of Hokkaido specialties and classic items. The soy sauce is in a separate container, so you can adjust the amount, which is nice. The rice portion is small, but for 850 yen, the variety and quality of the contents make it feel like a good deal. I definitely want to eat it again. Thank you for the meal!

The station bento boxes in Hokkaido are all of high quality, probably because of the abundance of good ingredients. This time, I got the "Ishikari Salmon Rice" for 1250 yen. Well, no complaints here~ The salmon flavor is rich and delicious.

When I ride the train, I can't help but buy a station lunch box and fully enjoy the feeling of traveling. However, it's best to have at least 10 minutes to eat, as it's not enjoyable when you arrive too quickly. I bought the "Ishikari Makunouchi Bento" this time and opted for tea instead of beer. The typical Makunouchi includes tamagoyaki, salmon, and rice topped with umeboshi. Tempura with soy sauce is irresistible. There's also sukiyaki and scallops, making it a luxurious meal. The seasoning of the kinpira is exquisite. I love Makunouchi because you can enjoy a variety of flavors. It was a journey from Sapporo to Shin-Sapporo.

Recently, when I ride the train, even for a short distance, I like to buy a station bento and beer to enjoy my train journey to the fullest (*´∇`*). While some people are into train spotting or train riding, in my case, I guess you could call me a "foodie train" enthusiast, haha. Today, I traveled from Sapporo Station to Shinoro Station. I rarely go to Shinoro, so just walking around the town is refreshing for me. Well, enough of the long introduction. Let's talk about the autumn feast bento (seasonal limited edition) for 1000 yen and a 500ml can of Sapporo Classic beer. I love the makunouchi style bento. It has two types of rice, zangi, grilled salmon and scallops, rolled omelette, vegetables, and even ohagi (sweet rice ball). There are various flavors to enjoy, and the beer goes down smoothly! I get excited when I see scallops and rolled omelette in my bento. But no matter what I eat, the taste is elegant and delicious! It's pure bliss! I'm looking forward to trying the winter seasonal limited edition bento when the snow piles up.

"Benatei" located inside Sapporo Station's ticket gate. Established in Meiji 32, it is a shop of Sapporo Station Tachiuemachi Association. It is located in the center of platforms 6 and 7 inside JR Sapporo Station. The small shop with space for only one staff member is easy to spot. The menu includes: "Three Great Crab Tasting (1,300 yen)" featuring Taraba crab, Hanasaki crab, and Zuwai crab, "Kai Rei Crab Rice (1,080 yen)" using Zuwai crab, "Ishikari Salmon Rice (1,150 yen)" a long-selling item since Taisho 12, "Ishikari Bento (850 yen)" a popular bento, "Sasazushi (1,100 yen)" from the pressed sushi shop "Sasakichi", and the most popular seafood chirashi "Ezo Gourmet Seafood (1,180 yen)" featuring crab, salmon roe, sea urchin, salmon, and scallop. I couldn't resist ordering the "Ishikari Salmon Rice". Although it was out of stock at this store, the staff kindly arranged for it to be brought from another store in the station. I informed them that my train was not departing soon, and within 2-3 minutes, the staff temporarily left the shop and swiftly brought the bento. Opening the package, I was delighted to see the ikura and salmon peeking from the hole shaped like Hokkaido. The vibrant bento was adorned with a combination of salmon and ikura. The slightly small but richly bursting ikura was delicious, and the generously placed salmon had a moist texture filled with the deliciousness of salmon. Mixing them with the rice and kinshi egg, both the taste and stomach were satisfied. This bento, made with fresh Hokkaido ingredients, not only offered great value for money but also allowed me to fully experience the charm of station bento, making it a perfect travel companion for salmon lovers."

A bento shop inside JR station. I bought the most popular item, the Seafood Ezo Delight for 1080 yen to eat on the train. It comes in an octagonal container with crab, bamboo shoots, salmon, salmon roe, sea urchin, and shredded omelette, very luxurious. The cut kelp from Hokkaido was also interesting. It's perfect for a quick station bento. Thank you for the meal! (^~^)

I confirmed with the staff that it was okay to eat the station bento on the 40-minute train ride. I was planning to eat a lot at the airport anyway, so I decided to go light. However, the staff recommended their most popular item, the "Ishikawa" bento, so I bought it. They even warmed it up for me in the microwave! It was nice to have a warm bento in the cold Hokkaido. I started eating as soon as the train departed, as I was quite hungry, and finished it in about 10 minutes (lol). It was delicious, and afterwards, I fell asleep on the train. Thank you for the meal ☺️

I arrived safely at New Chitose Airport on October 27, and will be heading to Asahikawa. I had planned to eat ebi soba at the airport before moving, but since my time at Asahiyama Zoo the next day is too short, I decided to hurry to Asahikawa. I bought station bento in Sapporo, but I was late so I could only buy two (T . T). The Hokkaido Railway 140th Anniversary Station Bento was 880 yen and the Autumn Feast Bento was 1000 yen. I gave the more expensive one to my husband, and the commemorative bento to the grandchildren. I am left with the leftovers of the grandchildren (^◇^;). There were colorful side dishes such as salmon ikura rice, salmon cheese miso grilled, and simmered dishes. All of them were seasoned on the richer side and delicious. They also had a hint of sweetness, which I liked. This is high quality! As expected of Hokkaido station bento. It was very satisfying to be able to eat the Hokkaido station bento that I had been longing for. However, the outside scenery remained the same throughout... Truly Hokkaido (laughs).

In Sapporo Station, Benntei has three sales areas, a perfect location where customers can't escape. Although not a warm bento, as expected in Hokkaido, they have crab, salmon roe, and salmon. I tried the Ishikari salmon rice. It's a bento with salmon flakes and salmon roe, a kind of parent-child relationship. For the content, the price of 1,150 yen is truly Hokkaido. The saltiness was a bit strong, but overall, it was a very satisfying bento.

I arrived in Hokkaido before the long weekend. I traveled from Itami to New Chitose, had a quick meal in Sapporo, and planned to move to Asahikawa, but suddenly the plane was delayed for almost an hour, so no time for a meal! I spotted a bento shop in the concourse and bought a chicken rice bento with few misses to eat on the Super Kamui train. It was dark outside and all I could see was snow near the tracks, but train bento is always good. The bento had a bed of seasoned rice topped with three large pieces of chicken and several side dishes for 900 yen. The rice seasoning was to my liking, the chicken was delicious, and the other side dishes were perfect for a break between bites. As train bentos go, this chicken rice bento is quite good. Satisfied, I continue my journey to Asahikawa on the train.

I used it in February. It was very helpful as they open early in the morning. I had the most popular Ezo Gourmet, which includes salmon roe, sea urchin, and various other ingredients, all for 1080 yen, so it's relatively cheap for a train station bento shop. Other people were talking about bentos that cost less than 700 yen. The rice was a bit hard because it was pre-made, so I can't say it was incredibly delicious. However, since it was a special trip, it was nice to have a bento on the train and enjoy seafood while drinking beer in the morning. Once the coronavirus is completely contained, I hope everyone will stop by Sapporo again and enjoy a bento on the train.
