During the last three-day weekend in December, we stayed one night at the Yamashizuka Hotel in Noboribetsu Karurusu Onsen and on our way back to Sapporo, my wife suggested staying another night at a hot spring because it was still a holiday. She mentioned the Furu River at Togeshita Beach, a high-class inn that costs over 25,000 yen per person. However, it was fully booked, so we found a more affordable option called Park Hotel GATEI, a hot spring inn boasting five types of hot springs. We had some time before the 2 o'clock check-in, so we went shopping in Tomakomai and checked in at 2:30. We were able to leave our newly purchased frozen seafood at the front desk. The hotel has 156 rooms and is quite large, with many Taiwanese and Korean group tourists staying there on the day. The room had a strong sulfur smell, and we enjoyed the large communal bath and spacious outdoor bath. After soaking, we enjoyed some canned beer in our room. For dinner, there was a buffet with a wide variety of dishes such as sashimi, tempura, steak, curry, ramen, gyoza, salad, dessert, and more. I don't remember much due to being a bit tipsy. After dinner, I went to bed and slept. The next morning, we had breakfast in the same venue, which was also a buffet style. I opted for a Japanese breakfast with rice, miso soup, grilled fish, pickles, and more. The breakfast lacked fish roe compared to dinner, but overall, it was satisfying. The bread looked delicious, but when I tried to warm it in the oven, the safety feature kicked in, and the heating coil didn't turn red, which was a bit frustrating. Nevertheless, I still felt full as usual.
