Located just south of Kintetsu Osaka Uehommachi Station, on the 5th floor of the mixed-use building "Uehommachi YUFURA" which houses the Osaka Shinkabukiza, is a slightly upscale branch of the well-known Osaka-based chain "Kazokutei" that opened on November 15th, 2019. This restaurant took over the space where "Dotonbori Imai" used to operate in "Uehommachi YUFURA". The interior maintains a traditional yet modern Japanese decor, with a mix of counter and table seating for a total of 40 seats. I opted for a seat at the counter as I prefer it when dining alone. The lunch menu includes options such as "Oyakodon Set" (950 yen excluding tax) and "Tempura Soba Set" (1,000 yen excluding tax), as well as the "Tempura Gozen" (1,480 yen excluding tax) offered at a special price for the opening. I chose the warm soba with tororo (grated yam) rice for my set. The meal arrived promptly, featuring a large tray with tempura, side dishes, rice, soba, pickles, and a small manju. The tempura included shrimp, shiso leaf, lotus root, eggplant, white fish, and pumpkin, served with tempura dipping sauce and salt. The tempura was crispy and freshly fried, though the shrimp was slightly tough. The tempura dipping sauce was light and elegant. The side dishes comprised soba tofu, potato salad, simmered chicken, rolled omelette, vegetable side dish, and pickles, all neatly arranged. The soba tofu had a jelly-like texture with a refreshing flavor. The rolled omelette was tightly rolled with a firm texture. However, it was served quite cold straight from the refrigerator. The soba was cooked to a soft texture with decent flavor, accompanied by a slightly strong broth. The tororo on the rice was finely grated and had a smooth texture. A small wagashi (Japanese sweet) was also included, which was a nice touch. Overall, the meal was flavorful, visually appealing, and included a variety of dishes. It provided a delightful and elegant lunch experience, even though the special price duration was unclear.
