November 23, 2021 Strolling in Kyoto in Autumn Part 9: I moved from Rurikoin to Shimogamo Shrine and got "Shimbō" and "Mackerel Sushi". Since I was in Demachiyanagi, I decided to buy my favorite "Meidai Mochi" from "Demachi Futaba" on the way back. However, it was a holiday during the autumn foliage season, and I was dismayed by the unprecedentedly long line of tourists filling the sidewalk, so I had to give up on buying it (cries). Instead, I stopped by the nearby bakery "Bon Appétit" recommended by a friend and bought some morning bread. The name "Bon Appétit" is French for "Enjoy your meal" and the bakery, established in 2014 as a 100 yen bread shop, has slightly raised its prices due to rising ingredient costs. When I visited in the evening, there were only a few bread left in the store, but I brought back ◆ Chestnut Anpan (120 yen) ◆ Chewy Anpan (120 yen) ◆ Blueberry Fromage (120 yen) ◆ Grand Salt Roll (120 yen). Since I still had some stock of bread, I wrapped all four in plastic wrap, put them in a ziplock bag, and froze them for later breakfasts, thawing and reheating two at a time. The "Chestnut Anpan" was a large bread that beautifully recreated chestnuts with poppy seeds and the shine of the dough. It was filled with plenty of chestnut paste and chestnut pieces, all for just 120 yen, which is unbelievable! The "Chewy Anpan" had black sesame sprinkled on the surface, with a thin dough that was chewy as the name suggests, and the rich strained bean paste inside paired well with the black sesame flavor. The "Blueberry Fromage" is a white bread filled with cream cheese and blueberry jam. The fluffy dough paired well with the tangy jam and flavorful cheese. The "Grand Salt Roll" made with plenty of butter was sliced, toasted in a toaster oven, then spread with mayonnaise, topped with shredded cabbage, burdock root salad, thinly sliced cherry tomatoes, and coriander to make a "Burdock Root Salad Sandwich". This made for a rich and delicious breakfast. In any case, at only 120 yen each, these breads offer great value for their taste! After buying "Mochi" at "Demachi Futaba", walk 50m south and stop by this bakery as well. Now, I will return to Osaka with lots of souvenirs. When I get back, organizing all these photos will be quite a task! Bon appétit! (●^o^●)
