In Asahikawa, there is a shopping park where, if you go deep inside, there is a market and a popular ramen shop. In front of the building, there always seems to be a line forming during lunchtime. Curious, I entered the building and found a bustling atmosphere in front of the vegetable and side dish section where salarymen and office ladies were buying lunch boxes to take back. The kitchen staff, mostly older women, were energetically packing side dishes into plastic containers. It seems to be a long-time favorite spot, even featured in food magazines multiple times and visited by many comedians. The main dishes are prepared before the store opens, and it seems like the second generation is now in charge. The husband is in charge of frying tempura, sweating profusely as he works hard. The second generation wife and two other women swiftly pack the side dishes into containers. Tourists and newcomers place various orders, but regular customers mostly leave it to the staff. The main dishes are priced at 400 yen and 500 yen, with customers choosing the size of rice and one or two side dishes. This time, they took a large order and left it up to the staff to decide the contents. It's actually fun because each 400 yen order has completely different contents! When back at the office, arranging the side dishes, the boss secretly chose a plate with mostly vegetables and less fried food. Surprisingly, 90% of the side dishes were brown in color! The 500 yen order included simmered vegetables, cabbage salad, sautéed burdock root, fried dumplings, chicken miso, fried egg, spring rolls, fried crab legs, and rice (regular portion). Isn't that amazing? And even though it's a carefully selected plate with less fried food, it's still quite an attack of fried dishes! If a big convenience store were to sell this, it would probably cost around 800 to 1,000 yen. And to think that they are all freshly homemade, it's truly appreciated and delicious. By the way, the regular portion of rice is like a rice bowl size, so next time, the boss will opt for a smaller portion. Everyone is like, "Seven Lucky Bento, Seven Lucky Bento," feeling as if they are opening a treasure chest. It's exciting and delightful, and everything is delicious. So enjoyable! The meal was so good, but now I have a tight stomach. Thank you for the meal!
