I finished receiving a massage near Kita 24-jo Station on the subway, which lasted about an hour, around 11 o'clock. I realized that even if I take the subway and head south now, I won't arrive in the Sapporo Station area until around 11:30, and everywhere is crowded... So, I decided to get off at Sapporo Station, walk through the underground pedestrian walkway on Ekimae-dori, and peek into a building. The word that caught my eye on the tenant information sign of the building I peeked into was "tempura." But, it would probably cost close to 2,000 yen to eat here... Then, I remembered this restaurant. It is located on the basement floor of a building facing Ekimae-dori but not directly connected to the station below. When I arrived in front of the building, it was just around 11:30, and the restaurant opens at 11. The atmosphere of the restaurant, both outside and inside, is very Showa era-like (laughs). The counter seats at the end were occupied by three people having their meals. And I could see a long table separated by partitions and a raised seating area. As the man sitting at the counter in front of the kitchen started to prepare to leave, I waited for the seat to become available. Once the seat was free, I sat down and decided to go for the "tempura bowl for 850 yen" and a "medium beer for 520 yen." Along with the beer, they brought chopsticks, a wet towel, hot tea, pickles, and radish. I enjoyed the pickles while sipping my beer and waiting. Drinking beer in a downtown eatery, surrounded by office workers, really makes the beer taste better (laughs). The person next to me seemed to have ordered a tempura set, and each piece of tempura was served one by one, like at a sushi restaurant. They started putting rice in a lacquered wooden bowl in front of me, so it must be almost ready. Tempura was placed on top of the rice one by one, and finally, three tempura with sauce were served. There was eggplant, shrimp, squid, smelt, and chrysanthemum leaves tempura. It was definitely delicious. And the frying was done just right (laughs). The squid was especially tasty. I don't eat tempura often, but sometimes it's good, right? (laughs) More office workers started coming in later, and I think the most popular dish is the mixed tempura bowl. When I paid at the register, the staff said, "It will be 1,350 yen." Isn't it supposed to be 1,370 yen? Maybe it's a lunchtime special? I'm not sure (laughs). The evening drink set after 5 pm includes appetizers, assorted tempura, simmered dish, and a medium-sized beer for 1,800 yen, and you can freely choose the combination of two drinks. But, two cups of alcohol... Maybe a two-cup sake bottle? Anyway, thanks for the meal.
