Dinner at "Yamamoto's Hamburg"! I've always been curious about this place whenever I pass by Milado, so I wanted to try it out. I was planning to enter the restaurant around 5:30 PM, but I kept seeing a line forming in front of the restaurant, and I also had a reservation at another restaurant at 7 PM, so I decided to go a bit earlier just to be safe. I wasn't very hungry, but I didn't want to miss out on trying this place, and I wanted to make it in time for dessert at the restaurant where I had a reservation. I arrived at the restaurant about 20 minutes early, and surprisingly only had to wait for about 3 minutes before being seated, and then I was able to order smoothly! Timing is important, right? I already knew what I wanted to eat, so I placed my order right away! I ordered the "Grated Daikon Ponzu Hamburg Set 180g (¥1390)"! The set included the Hamburg steak, rice, miso soup, and the restaurant's original vegetable juice, and if it had been lunchtime, it would have also come with a mini salad. Before the Hamburg steak was ready, they served the vegetable juice. The staff explained the ingredients of the juice, which included oranges, bananas, kiwis, and more! The juice looked like orange juice, but it had a complex taste that started with a citrusy sourness followed by a rich sweetness, and then another wave of sourness that refreshed the palate. It was so delicious that I wanted to drink more of it! After a short wait, the Hamburg steak was served! The amount of grated daikon radish on top was taller than the thickness of the Hamburg steak itself, making it look like a mountain. When I cut into the Hamburg steak, it didn't ooze with juices but instead offered a chewy texture that allowed me to savor the meatiness. Some reviews mentioned that the steak was juicy, so it seems like it may vary depending on the chef. Despite being a bit tough to cut with chopsticks, it provided a satisfying chewiness without being too soft or too tough. The crispy charred surface added a nice aroma, which I really enjoy! The generous amount of grated daikon radish added a crunchy texture that made eating it fun, and the light seasoning of the Hamburg steak allowed the refreshing ponzu sauce to complement it perfectly without overpowering the meat. The accompanying vegetables were green peppers, eggplants, and seasoned bean sprouts, which were a nice touch. The balance of soy sauce and salt in the seasonings enhanced the flavors and showed the thoughtfulness in the preparation. I forgot to ask for a small portion of rice, but the small rice bowl was just right for me as I don't need much rice unless it's in a bowl dish. I ordered the Grated Daikon Ponzu Hamburg because I wanted to enjoy a refreshing Hamburg steak, and despite the price, I was able to appreciate the essence of the meat's texture and flavor, making it a worthwhile experience. Even though I initially thought it was expensive, the fact that rice and miso soup refills were free made it more reasonable. If I were to visit again, I would like to try a richer dish like gratin or demi-glace sauce. Thank you for the meal!
