Tanuki soba for 750 yen in Furano for lunch. The atmosphere of the restaurant, with its seasoned appearance, gives off a traditional soba shop vibe. Inside the shop, it was quite crowded during lunchtime. The tempura and cutlets looked delicious, but I decided to go with a simple cold tanuki soba. It arrived in about 5 minutes. Fast! It came with cold dipping sauce and only tempura flakes, keeping it simple. It also came with pickled eggplant. Noteworthy was the generous portion of soba noodles. It was quite filling, almost like a large serving. This branch of Kodama-ya seems to be well-loved by the locals. Thank you for the meal.

Today's cold katsu soba for 950 yen was delicious. I think the cold version allows you to taste the katsu more directly, and I really like it. Plus, there's no worry about getting burned, which is nice. The katsu here has good meat and a nice crispy coating, so it's one of my favorites. The only downside was that the green onions were a bit bitter, so I left them uneaten. Thanks for the meal today.

As soon as I passed through the noren curtain, I activated "Donburi Mode" and thought I would get the Katsudon. However, I ended up ordering the Ebi Don for 950 yen. As expected, it was a bowl of Ebi Fry with two pieces laid on top of a bed of chopped onions, topped with a shrimp tempura in egg sauce. The crispy coating of the Ebi Fry had soaked up plenty of the flavorful broth, making it delicious. The rice was cooked just right, slightly firm, and paired well with the sweet sauce, creating a pleasant sensation in my mouth. The portion of rice was quite generous, maybe another Ebi Fry would be nice. But then again, the quantity wouldn't change (laughs). Thank you for the delicious meal today.

Today, I was in the mood for tempura, so I thought about getting a mixed tempura set. However, I wanted something refreshing, so I opted for "Tempura Soba" topped with shrimp tempura. The weather is still warm, so cold soba noodles sounded perfect. The shrimp tempura had a distinct presence with its large size and juicy texture. The soba noodles were a bit too soft, but still enjoyable. Unfortunately, the green onions were a bit bitter, which was disappointing. I visited Furano today to pay my respects at the memorial altar for Kunie Tanaka. Afterwards, I stopped by Kodama-ya branch for lunch and ordered the same Katsu-don set (soba, cold) and Ebi-don set (soba, hot) as I did at the main branch before. The soba was likely made with a 80:20 ratio, the broth had a nice dashi flavor, and the donburi sauce was to my liking. It was a long time since I last visited a soba restaurant that I enjoyed so much. - Katsu-don set: ¥1,100 (tax included) - Ebi-don set: ¥1,100 (tax included)

I had ramen for the first time today. I had heard rumors that it was delicious, but I was hesitant to try it. Today, I decided to give it a shot and ordered the "salt" flavor. The noodles were medium thickness and curly, the chashu was small, and there was plenty of chopped green onions and wood ear mushrooms. The soup had a nice umami flavor with a subtle saltiness that didn't linger on the palate. However, the noodles were a bit too firm for my liking. Overall, it was a nostalgic type of ramen and I enjoyed it. I might try the soy sauce flavor next time. Thank you for the meal.

Today's tonkatsu had a slightly stronger coating, but if you hold back a little when biting into it, the sauce-soaked breading will make you go "hehe." The soba noodles were as generous as ever, and the chewy texture paired well with the oily ingredients. I'm starting to think they make a good match. Thank you for the meal once again!

I realized that I hadn't had lunch today, so I decided to eat something before heading back to the hotel. I found a soba restaurant called Kotobeya Shiten while passing by. They even had a free parking lot. It's raining quite a bit. It was almost 5 pm, so the restaurant was empty. I ordered the katsu-don and the large mori soba. The katsu-don at a soba restaurant has a unique taste with the broth. The mori soba was also quite good. It's the kind of restaurant that makes you want to try other menu items as well.

I wanted something cold because it had been hot for a while. Cold noodles are good, but I also wanted something oily. So today, I had "cold inaka soba." The tempura flakes were plentiful and piled high in the bowl, looking like a small mountain. They seemed freshly fried and warm. The noodles were thin and chewy as usual. When I slurped them without thinking, my cheeks puffed up. It was quite filling and had a generous portion. Even though it was just a simple dish of tempura flakes in the soba, it was delicious. Once a month on the regular "Soba Day (My Rule)," I visited the usual Kotama-ya branch for the Soba ritual. Today, I was a little indecisive and decided to go with the "Katsu Soba." When I want to pump myself up a bit, I always end up craving Katsu. Thanks for preparing the Katsu for me. It arrived in about 10 minutes. Oh! This is it! The Katsu's color, size, and crispiness are perfect. Quietly raising my spirits, I took a bite of the Katsu with just the right thickness and crispy coating. The soba broth absorbed by the Katsu created a harmonious blend in my mouth, making me feel like I was about to lose consciousness (*´-`). The thin coating on the Katsu makes it enjoyable until the very end. Thank you for the feast~

I visited for lunch and sat at the counter near the entrance. I ordered the tempura bowl set with the option of hot or cold soba. Since it was a bit chilly today, I chose the hot soba. The food was served in about 5 minutes. The two-tiered dish always makes me excited. When I lifted the top dish, the hot soba was revealed. And when I removed the lid from the top dish, the tempura bowl appeared with steam. Both dishes were single portions, so it can be a bit challenging to eat them together. By the way, today's pickled vegetables were daikon radish instead of the usual eggplant, so I hope they switch back to eggplant if possible. Thank you for the meal.

Today I had some free time! I sat at the usual central counter and placed my order. Since the air conditioning was working well, I decided to go for some warm soba noodles. I ordered the Katsu Soba for 950 yen. The sound of the pork cutlet being fried in the back could be heard, and in about 5 minutes, my dish arrived. It was a bowl filled with a pork cutlet. The cutlet was soaking in the broth, and the batter had changed color to a delicious hue. I started by trying the cutlet, which was about 1 cm thick. It was crispy in some parts and juicy where it soaked up the broth. It was so satisfying. The noodles were a chewy type, about 2.5mm thick. The broth was sweet, but it paired well with the fat, making the cutlet taste even better. The portion size was generous, and I left feeling full once again. Thank you for the delicious meal today!

The main store was closed, but the branch was open. The salt ramen in large size seems to have increased in price overall. Next time, I'll aim for the pork cutlet rice bowl set. The ramen with extra noodles is only 50 yen more, which is wallet-friendly. The staff were also friendly and provided good customer service.

I used it for lunch as I didn't have much time, so I went to this place along the national highway. The restaurant was about 80% full with local office workers. I ordered a large zaru soba for ¥730. It was served in about 5 minutes. It came with seaweed on top. It was quite a generous portion and I was full after finishing it. The noodles were about 2.5mm thick and had a good texture. The broth was on the sweeter side and there was plenty of green onions as a condiment. It also came with pickled eggplant. Thank you for the meal.

In Furano, there is a well-known long-established shop. Among the various items on the menu, I chose the Katsu Curry Soba. My companion had the Tempura Don set. The soba had sweet noodles, and the tempura had a slightly softer batter, not for those who prefer a crispy coating. The sauce had a rich depth and was delicious. I have had Katsu Curry Soba at another soba shop before, but the combination of curry and soba did not seem to match well, and I got tired of it halfway through. Also, the soba seemed to struggle with the thickness of the curry, breaking apart. Overall, if you choose the right combination, the soba shop is not a problem as the soba broth and dashi are both solid.
