The shop is located on the opposite side of the national highway from the Urakawa Wellington Hotel. The store is spacious, with a showcase of Western-style sweets, a showcase of Japanese sweets, and a corner for bread that is only sold on weekdays. I selected a few items and enjoyed them at home. - Cream Puff (320 yen): A fluffy omelette with sandwiched cream and strawberries, topped with chocolate sauce and powdered sugar. When cut in half, you can see peaches and custard cream inside. The not-too-sweet cream, the sweetness of the peaches, and the fluffy texture of the omelette were delicious. - Song of the Forest (135 yen): A walnut-topped steamed bun with red bean paste inside. - Kamui's Twin Rocks (135 yen): Although labeled as cinnamon, it tastes more like white bean paste with a hint of cinnamon. - Daisetsuzan Mountain Range (135 yen): A pastry filled with chestnuts, with a distinct chestnut flavor. - Tenma Kaido (135 yen): A pound cake with chestnuts kneaded into the dough. - Sasumai Monaka (135 yen) [4 varieties available] - Red bean paste: Slightly sweeter than expected. - White bean paste with kelp: The kelp is mixed into the light white bean paste, but the taste of kelp is not prominent. Overall, the shop offers traditional sweets made with reliable techniques, rather than trendy new sweets. Each item provided a comforting and satisfying taste experience.

I was in Urakawa for work, and as you may know, the railway has been discontinued (replaced by bus service). Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there are fewer high-speed buses running, and unfortunately, I got stuck here for three hours unable to escape. Since it was boring to just sit around, I decided to take a stroll around town in my car. I went to a meat shop where I heard the curry bread was delicious, but they only sell it on Tuesdays and Thursdays, which was disappointing. I then went into a shop called "Umetsuki-do Tejukashi-ten" in the shopping district. Inside, they had a variety of baked goods, traditional Japanese sweets, and Western-style desserts. I bought three items: chestnut dorayaki, "Rakunou no Sato," and strawberry monaka. I ate the chestnut dorayaki in the car... The thin and moist skin with smooth red bean paste and a prominent chestnut in the center. The saltiness of the red bean paste was a bit strong, but overall, the sweetness of the ingredients was not bad. Personally, I think increasing the amount of red bean paste would create a better balance and taste. I took the other two items home. "Rakunou no Sato" is a white bean paste bun with a subtle butter flavor and a refreshing taste due to its low sweetness. "Strawberry monaka" uses locally grown strawberries, but the strawberry flavor is very weak, more of a hint of aroma. I think it would be better to have a stronger strawberry flavor. The shop had a wide variety of products, and if you visit Urakawa, I recommend trying something else. Thank you for the meal.

"Revisited in January 2019" I visited the popular confectionery shop "Tedori" in Urakawa, on my way to eat "Katsumeshi" in Urakawa. I tried to choose a confectionery that I had never tried before, but ended up buying the representative confectionery called "Tenma Kaido" which seemed interesting. Surprisingly, the contents of the confectionery had changed, from a white bean paste-filled baked manju-like confectionery to a sponge cake-based castella confectionery. Although tastes vary, personally I felt the previous version had a more traditional feel and was slightly disappointed. I also bought several other confectioneries, with the following reviews: - "Saba" - Essentially a monaka with a design of a horse character on the skin. There are two types of fillings, chunky red bean paste and smooth red bean paste, but I personally prefer the chunky red bean paste. - "Kurage no Akari" - A baked confectionery shaped like a jellyfish, with small rice crackers on the surface to represent the jellyfish. - "Urakawa Komoriuta" - A type of "pie manju" with pumpkin paste filling, quite delicious. - "Erimo Misaki" - A Western-style manju with cheese paste filling. Personally, this was my favorite among the ones I bought this time. When traveling far from home, it's quite enjoyable to buy original confectioneries from local confectionery shops. "Tedori" proudly displays "creative confectionery" on its signboard, offering a variety of original confectioneries, which I personally find very appealing. It's quite nice to have confectioneries that feature the name of the local area as a souvenir for a short trip. The shop also offers Western-style confectioneries like shortcakes and a bread corner, and seems to be popular even among locals.

I came to Urakawa to attend the Shishamo Festival, as a visitor from Chiba Prefecture. The festival venue is 70 kilometers away from Urakawa, about 1.5 hours by car, but I decided to extend my trip to Urakawa because the hotel I wanted to stay at (Wellington Hotel) was located here. I walked too much and now my thighs hurt. ( ̄∇ ̄) Anyway, I had dinner at a nearby restaurant called "Matsuyama" and tried their Matsukawa bowl, then I went to "Tedori-san" in search of dessert. I might be scolded by the locals for having such a limited range of activities, even though there are other delicious restaurants around! When I entered the shop, I looked around at the various items. On the right side of the entrance, there were bread, baked goods, and Japanese sweets on the shelves. In the front showcase, there were perfect sweets for gifts, and in the back showcase, there were rows of cakes that I was looking for. I can't explain it well, but it looked like a department store for sweets. When I stopped in front of the cake showcase, I was torn between the omurice with firm cream, shortcake, and cream puff. I imagined how crispy the edge of the apple pie would be, and what kind of texture the apples would have. The cake with a lot of shaved chocolate looked bitter, and my mind was in a state of desire like a department store. Since this shop is far away and I only have one stomach, I seriously struggled to decide what to eat. After much thought, I chose a chestnut pie (I forgot the official name) and a beko mochi. Even with such a small order, the staff kindly packed them in a box and even provided ice packs for me to take back to the hotel. When I tried the chestnut pie at the hotel, it was delicious with the crunchy chestnuts and custard cream, and the pie crust was very fragrant. The slightly tart and thick napage was also a perfect match. I exclaimed, "I want to eat another one of these!" The beko mochi had a firm texture that didn't stick to my teeth, with the scent of bamboo leaves as an accent. It wasn't too strong in black sugar flavor, making it easy to eat. The chestnut pie (I forgot the official name) was so delicious that I would love to eat it again if I have the chance. Thank you to all the reviewers who recommended Tedori-san.

I'm on Hidakuro Street, where Sanseki Yokan is a staple, but the sweets here also occasionally feature Japanese sweets. Surprisingly, they have crepes for 310 yen. It may be a bit expensive, but it's not bad. The crepe skin is slightly firm (like in a pottery shop). Personally, I prefer the custard cream puff from the shop, but I generally like custard cream puffs. I also enjoy munching on mini cream puffs from the candy store. I digress, but there are also Japanese sweets available, so I might buy and try them next time I visit. I discovered this place even before finding it on Tabelog, and I decided not to visit other nearby sweet shops because they weren't on Tabelog (I'm stubborn and set in my ways, just like Nishikawa-san). I can't quite put it into words, but they skillfully maintain the taste and cater to various customers, which I believe has contributed to their popularity. I hope they continue this way for a long time, as it is a source of pride for the community.

Not only cakes, but also traditional Japanese sweets (dango, bekomochi, etc.), and they also sell bread, making it a triple delight shop! If you want to enjoy both cakes and dango, this is the place to go. Their savory bread is also delicious and reasonably priced. However, if you go in the evening, they often sell out quickly. The cakes have a nostalgic Showa era vibe and are not too sweet, which is nice. They don't offer many new or seasonal cakes, so it may not be recommended for those looking for trendy or seasonal options. But older customers may appreciate the nostalgic taste.

My husband goes to Samani for business every few years. On the way, he buys souvenirs from the Hidakuroad. After getting Samani's oyaki and then buying tenkama in Urakawa, he found a nearby confectionery. He bought a banana omelette, an eclair, and four bekomochi. When he opened the box, only the omelette and eclair were visible, but the bekomochi was hidden under the eclair. At the checkout, he asked to put everything in one box, and the way they packed it was quite clever. The bekomochi in the bottom layer was individually wrapped, allowing for this unique packing method. The banana omelette was delicious, with artistic cream patterns. The cream had a rich flavor that paired well with the slightly dry sponge on the surface. The bananas inside were also sweet and delicious. The secret to its deliciousness seems to be using thick, sweet bananas cut in half rather than thin ones. In a previous review, it was mentioned that the taste may not be trendy, but it evokes a sense of nostalgia for those from the countryside. This was quite amusing to read. It's a taste that says "very delicious" for us middle-aged folks from the countryside. (laughs) I found it much tastier than the occasional fancy cakes from a certain Western confectionery store in our area. The eclair had two layers of cream, both rich and delicious. The bekomochi had a unique design, with a circular shape and a modern black-and-white pattern. The soft and sticky texture of the bekomochi was not to my liking, more like a suama flavor. However, my husband thought it was delicious despite being sticky. The ratings were: Banana omelette ★3.7, Eclair ★3.4, Bekomochi ★3.0. It seems that my husband prefers Western sweets over traditional Japanese sweets. Perhaps it's a common scenario where the second generation of a traditional Japanese confectionery shop becomes a Western pastry chef? (Sorry if I'm totally off the mark) I look forward to trying the banana omelette again in a few years. I also want to try other cakes next time.

I have tried the cakes at this shop before, but this was my first time trying their baked sweets. When I opened the box, there were several individually wrapped sweets inside. (I didn't keep track of how many I ate at work...I'm sorry to the shop staff...) The sweets looked like wafers with cream sandwiched between them. When I tried them, they were thicker than wafers but still thin and firm. They weren't too sweet, making them perfect for enjoying with tea. Personally, I prefer the texture and flavor of these over wafers.

※Please note that the store information, menu items, and prices are based on the last visit. Prices are inclusive of tax unless otherwise stated. ~First Visit (24.10.28)~ (Exterior) The sign for "Tedori" stands out at this shop, giving it the feel of a local candy store. (Interior) The spacious interior is filled with various sweets, including dagashi and bread, making it suitable for a light meal. On Sundays, only French bread is available. There is also seating for two at the counter. (Dishes) I would like to review the dishes I ordered this time: ☆Baked Cream Puff (140 yen) - A crispy cream puff with cream added upon ordering. ☆Chestnut Cream Roll (250 yen) - A roll cake with plenty of chestnuts in the cream and a resilient sponge. ☆Chocolate Roll (220 yen) - A roll cake with chocolate coating on the sponge, which is also resilient. ☆Omelette Cake (250 yen) - A fluffy cake filled with plenty of cream and a whole banana. ☆Dairy Village (130 yen) - A milk manju with a subtle milk flavor. ☆Sea Jelly Light (130 yen) - A bean paste manju with raisins on top, adorned with white balls. ☆Urakawa Song (130 yen) - A pumpkin paste-filled pie. (Other) There is no parking at the shop, but there is a free municipal parking lot nearby for your convenience. [Summary] With generally reasonable pricing, this shop offers a wide variety of sweets suitable for children. If you ever find yourself unsure of what sweet treat to get, this shop is a convenient place to browse. Personally, I was intrigued by the sold-out "Daisetsuzan" sweet and would like to try it if given the chance. Thank you for the meal. I hope this review can be of help to you.

Located across from the Hokuyo Bank Urakawa branch in the center of Urakawa Town, along the national highway. It's right around the area where National Route 235 switches to National Route 236. This shop offers a wide range of sweets, from Western-style cakes to traditional Japanese sweets like mochi and dango, as well as baked goods like cookies and senbei. And guess what, they even sell freshly baked bread. You can easily cover your lunch and afternoon snack needs at this one shop. The shop is right next to the sea, so my favorite thing to do is to buy lunch and snacks at "Tedori-san" and enjoy them while looking out at the ocean. ♡

《August 2015 Update》It has been about six and a half years since my last visit in February 2009, and I rarely have the opportunity to visit Urakawa. I'm not inclined to bring back perishable cakes or fresh sweets during the summer. "Hidaka Mountain Range" is a pastry with a pie crust shaped like a mountain and filled with chestnut white bean paste, the crispy pie crust is quite tasty. Personally, I like this type of pastry, but I wish it was a bit larger. "Kuromatsu" is a baked manju pastry with chocolate on top and white bean paste inside, while "Yaki Potato" is a sweet potato pastry in a formed shape, both quite tasty, but the latter seems not to be the shop's original. There are other items that caught my interest, but I hope to visit in colder weather next time and bring back some cakes as well. 《February 2009 First Visit》Located along the Hidaka Highway in the town of Urakawa, there is a long-established confectionery shop called "Tedorika Honpo". Whenever I visit Urakawa for fishing, I often stop by for snacks. As a local confectionery shop, they cater to various needs of customers, offering a wide variety of Japanese and Western sweets, as well as bread. The taste of their sweets is decent, generally delicious like a regular confectionery shop. Personally, I particularly liked the original baked sweet named "Tenma Kaido". It is a long, thin baked sweet with white bean paste, both the filling and the dough are delicious, with a delicate balance of Japanese and Western flavors, making it a good souvenir when visiting the Rishiri-Rebun-Sarobetsu National Park area.

This is a confectionery shop located right across from the Wellington Hotel in Urakawa Town. There is a parking lot nearby that the town has made, making it easier to park compared to other confectionery shops in Urakawa Town. In addition to handmade Western and Japanese sweets and bread sold in the store, they also sell jellies and rice crackers made by other shops. The shop has a nostalgic feel of an old-fashioned confectionery shop, with no outstanding features, but all the sweets have a comforting taste. I think it's a good shop for souvenirs from your travels or for family parties.

In Urakawa, there are two factions: Tedori faction and Nishikiya faction. In simple terms, if you're buying a cake for a child, go to Tedori. They also have traditional Japanese sweets, but Tedori is more known for their Western-style cakes. The flavors may not be trendy, but for people who grew up in the countryside, they may find it nostalgic. There is a decent variety for young people to choose from. The store has been expanded due to road construction, but parking on the roadside is common on Urakawa's national highway. This is a rural characteristic. There is a fairly spacious parking lot towards the sea though.

I felt like I hadn't seen the name "Hidakayama Range" in a long time. Looking at the ingredients, it really is simple, just wheat flour, butter, sweet bean paste, sugar, chestnuts, egg yolks, and salt. I almost forgot about the chestnuts when eating it. I trust shops that make sweets with such simple ingredients. It seems like a shop that offers both Japanese and Western sweets, and I would like to try some nostalgic Western sweets.
